Sorry, but read the title. This is the developer diary. He writes about what interests him and the community responds. If Madmole brings it up it is on topic. When he says that a topic is over then it is off topic. If you are solely here to get only game related information then you are in the wrong thread.
Besides, A18 is pretty much in the can and pretty much every A18 related topic than can be discussed has been discussed. There is not going to be any earth shattering new reveals for A18 and most game related questions are Pimp Dream questions for down the road or the next game. My advice is to relax and wait for the patch notes if you're all about business and then you'll know everything without the community fun and shennanigans. It always gets really silly and crazy right before a major release when everyone knows its about all over and then when the A19 dev diary begins it will be back to mostly business and questions and reveals again.

We know just about everything.....other than Conventional Ralston that is.....
Well, we'll agree to disagree on your moderation decisions. It's the Alpha 18 Dev Diary, to be exact, not a diary in the traditional sense of the word in which one writes everything he's done today. At least, that's my take on it. Seeing madmole shoot down topics that are clearly related to a18 but encourage topics that are not even related to the game as a whole bugs me, what can I say. And it's not like this has only happened now that the release is presumably imminent, it's been happening for months *shrugs*

Many of the posts are full of controversial topics that, if they were addressed properly by another user, they would span a long conversation. I've seen you move other unrelated posts before, but for some reason those are left free to go on.

Survival horde crafting game. Don’t forget survival! I feel like I’ve said that before :p .
It's the combination of shorter-term, day-to-day survival with the longer-term, regularly scheduled big horde o' tower defense zombies that gives this game its identity. I know the game didn't start with a Blood Moon, but you can't put that genie back in the bottle, and it's how this game creates climactic rounds of victory and defeat, that other survival games don't manage.
Yes of course. Without survival its meh. My Skyrim is fully modded for survival, weather, cooking, eating/drinking, I even have combat fatigue that makes you crawl around when your health is low and I disable natural regen its hardcore but cool. Heal when you sleep, so you make a bedroll and sleep a bit when you get beat up and have no potions. No magic for this character. Its as close as you can get to 7 days survival vibe with the mods I have.

After the game goes gold and you get out all your dlcs, will you take to modding 7d2d? This would be the most meta thing ever, a developer making mods for his own game. Would be killer imo.

Very nice, would like to see your mod list one day.

Actually this is all just talk for a possible option after the game goes gold. A better discussion would have been to ask everyone on your discord, “If there was an additional game mode where the terrain was static but zombie counts were dramatically increased would you ever play that mode?”
Madmole was musing about how much of an obstacle voxel a have been from a dev viewpoint but he never said they would be removing voxel terrain from 7 Days to Die as anything more than an option.

I love the voxel terrain and wish TFP could/would invest more into solving the issues and making it even more amazing but even I would also play a static terrain mode as an option every once in awhile.
Yeah I don't like lifting weights or doing cardio but I like big muscles, strength and abs. Voxels are a pain in the ass to work with, but are fun AF.

Exploding arrows and SMG, grenades if needed. Yeah maybe on the stealth, for now it works ok, but you can't get your sneak bonuses and that bothers me. It would be nice if you could move to a new window and got a new sneak shot.
Somekind of kiting ability for agility build perhaps? Craft a "throwable flare" that takes zombies attention over the player for a short period...

that would definitely add a new dynamic to the build...

The lag is not only due to the terrain. A large part of that is AI calculations.
I still don't understand why TFP are persisting with an antiquated AI system just because it appears to work easier in a cubic world. The moment you add a half-block you've completely ruined about the only saving grace raw A* has.
With static terrain we could pre bake nav mesh and it would run amazing. SI calculations would be limited to "chunk entities". You could build chunk entities with 360 degree rotations.

The thing is this...

this is the Pimps' forum. They can do whatever they wish.

If they wanted to call this thread "Asparagus" or "Madmole Loves Milk" they can.

Where in the hell do you get that assumption? I love voxels, just hate the limitations and hell they have put us through. In a perfect world we have diggable destroyable everything with micro voxels and flowing water and endless fps, ray traced rendering, 10000s of zeds etc.
Unfortunately pc's are not progressing at a rate to smash these problems in a timely fashion so design constraints are a thing yet.
Theoretically, would you still have randomly generated terrain if it was static? Or are you talking about pre-made static maps ala Ark?

Personally randomly generated terrain \ cities is one of the biggest draws of this game. I get what you're saying about mining though, if you get down to it there isn't much to it. You could just approximate it with mining POI's, and allow players to build up but not dig down so you could still alter the landscape but just by adding onto it and leaving the original mesh alone.

But if it (or a theoretical sequel), ended up with completely static non-random maps, I would lose interest very quickly. Mining through, I could definitely lose. (Especially if every POI just had like 10 ft of diggable dirt underneath so you get some deformation but not the entire map.)

Oh, I couldn't disagree more with you about the importance of teaching history - now, teaching it without the teachers own bias being an issue, sure, that's nigh on impossible to eliminate, but as the old saying goes, "those who don't learn from history, are doomed to repeat it", is something I see around me (as a keen student of history) today more than ever.
I recently had a swastika scratched into my car roof. When I reported it to the police, the 20-something cop on the other side of the counter asked me first "What's a swastika?" and I was gobsmacked. I damn near went full-stage grumpy old man, and nigh on lectured him on the spot then and there.
So please inspire me as to what history you learned from? People learn by their own mistakes not by others and certainly not history books in school. I try to tell people how to live their lives all the time and they just keep making the same stupid mistakes and learn slow AF. "What did I say would happen" "uhh yeah you were right" then they do the same crap again or new crap and barely learn.

Maybe I had crappy teachers, but I don't recall learning anything from history classes. I find it more interesting now, but as a kid or teenager it was worse than watching paint dry. I am curious what you think a student can learn from it.

You should go train in Dagestan and learn the first thing about MMA that Khabib teaches: Respect.
Joel, i respect You :) .

I was in Dagestan from 1996-1998yy, the political situation at that time did not allow me to appreciate this beautiful mountainous country.

I know that Dagestanis respect only those who respect them.

And i, to some extent, with them in solidarity ;) .

True that.
I try not to prejudge people, but I never realized how important a firm handshake was until I shook hands with one of these kids. I have ZERO idea what part of the brain it comes from, but damn...a weak handshake gives me the creeps.

Morloc cringed as the millennial slowly stuck their tentacle like cold slimy fingers outward to shake hands, and upon contact felt shivers go up his spine as the gelatin like fingers conformed to his grip.

LOL someday I might have to write some stuff, so I best practice.

I love the game very much MM but the last patch was bug fixes and stability Issues. there may have been a new PoI or two but you cant say that we got an "update" 3 months ago so stop whining. I know people are antsy but A17.0 EXP launched on November 16, 2018 so effectively this is month 10 since an actual update and we were promised that with "this new build that Alpha's would be quick to turn out no more once a year update cycle." your words (at least pretty close) A17 was fun for a week but it clearly had its issues. with that said, what you all have been show casing for A18 its going to be a monumental step forward. I can't wait!!! I just hope you guys get A18.0 EXP build out this weekend but one could dream right? I just hope A18 drops before November 16th as that would make it 1 year since the last true update. Keep grinding those bugs and cheers to the impending release of A18
Yes no more release dates. We're working as fast as we can. Its really feeling pretty tight, and we're making progress.

Hi guys !Your game is pretty good :p

I'm very exiting for the new Alpha, big up from France :D

Yesterday, with a friend, we thinking about a new things for the game :

Musical instrument like a guitar ! why not ? :D

We thinking about this to bring zombies out of a building, and why not, on the night next to a campfire :p with some emotes like " dance " or " sing "

Is it possible ? :D
As long as screamers come in 1.4 seconds I'd be down for that.

Says the one who can read and write.
Did you edit my quote? I meant High School. My point is they don't prepare you for the real world. We didn't have youtube. Figuring out women took trial, error and a ton of heartache. Money management doesn't happen automatically. At least I took auto mechanics, welding and woodworking so I learned repair and crafting at a young age.

History was my least favorite class. Not only am I not built to absorb history (I'm more of a science guy myself), but the entire time I was asking myself "Why the hell do I need to know this?" And the truth is, there is no reason. It's just another question in the game of Trivial Pursuit. By no means is it necessary for you to function in society. I mean maybe you'll be a little uncultured, but Genghis Khan isn't going to get me a job.

My personal opinion: Elementary school should be more or less the same (i do think some history does you some good), but after that the education system should be 3 core principles: reading, writing, and arithmetic (to an extent, no one's doing trig). The rest of the credits are up to you to pick. Basically college but even more open ended.
