So, MadMole is using electricity in actual game for the first time, and doesn't like the lights. That's nice, but it's also the _first_ thing one learns about electricity, ever since alpha 16. Please, please take into consideration the following, which you might not have stumbled upon. I'll try to be concise and to the point, but I'm not very good at conciseness, I'm afraid.
1) Electric fences are SUPER laggy. They were not used on MadMole's horde night video, so I suspect he hasn't experienced them, and how laggy they are. Try electric fences on horde night. It doesn't need to be everywhere. Just a single electric fence, across that iron bar thing the zombies were climbing. Try that on blood moon, please.
2) Balancing electricity requirements is tricky. If you know ahead of time what you are going to do, maybe you'll plan the consumption requirements right and never see that. If you use it often, however, you'll time and again find yourself in a situation where power provided does not meet power consumption. If you have things activated by timer relays or sensors, it is _very_ easy to find yourself in that situation, and very hard to diagnose it! I doubt this playthrough will have been enough to realize that. It really takes frustration of having it happen over and over to really sink in. Please add a fuse, circuit breaker, or just plain have the generators turn off or even break if power consumption is excessive, but have things fail in visible ways instead of silently!
3) If you haven't used solar banks, you don't know how broken they are.
3.1) A simple solar bank/battery bank setup will often stop working as intended if you stay away from the base for an extended time. Maybe you left at night, and the battery bank was on when the chunk unloaded, maybe you left are morning, and the battery bank was being recharged or not being recharged when the chunk unloaded. Maybe you left during the day and returned at night, or vice versa. Maybe you exited the game away from the base. I don't know what triggers it, but the banks will simply stop working as intended. The batteries will get used up and not recharged during the day, often enough for me. I think there are other abnormal conditions, but in my mind it all turned into a big "it doesn't work".
3.2) Remember item 2? Try having a solar bank feed connected to more devices than it can power, and then try to do anything useful. Fight a roaming horde, for example. Open and close stations and containers, moving stuff around, crafting. Things get absurdly laggy, and the reason isn't apparent. I'm not sure it happens right away -- it feels like it creeps on you, like some sort of resource leak.
