does A18 have deployable rifle or machine gun bipods?

I combat the screaming b*** with a shotty ;) Love me the shotgun.
The problem is that I'm typically looting a building she's in. And suddenly by the time I recognize her and that she's running (sometimes it's hard to tell immediately) by the time it takes to transfer to a better weapon (assuming it's in the right place on the belt bar so I can just mousewheel to it) she's already grinding her hips into mine.

And it's especially a problem using a bow, because you can't change weapons if you're zoomed in. Precious milliseconds are wasted, making the bow pretty impractical in favour of a club at the moment.

lol damn that sucks, i tend to go stealth mode rout so female Z never have a chance of getting close and I listen for sounds to determine in which direction and speed a zombie is coming from so that I'm rarely suprised.

My prefered weapon of choice is the bow but with the click of a mouse button i can switch to a shotty should any zombies get within a range i feel theatened by.

Could one of you (Joe, calling all Joe's) stand in the exact spot in Nav at a specific time, and list your FPS comparing A17 to A18 using identical video settings?
it is not going to be exact because of under the hood changes (will not explain) settings are still same and same seed in both builds are still a little different as far as foilage/deco.

1900x1080 full screen med settings set on a18 so took same medium to a17.4b8. i do not need high settings in a18 now to make things look good. ryzen 7 2700x @4GHz 64G 3200MHz vengeance rtx 2080

73 fps a17.4b8.jpg

95 fps a18b93.jpg

Well, that counts then. =)
...under the hood changes... let the speculation begin!
no speculations needed.. just under hood adjustments here and there that didnt happen in a17... thats why i said not explaing it as the most important part is... it works. and its NTKB. :)

Wow! I'm super impressed.

1. That you can determine anything with the mess of sounds in the game at the moment. Sound distance and insulation is really messed up at the moment.

2. Regarding the stealthing: it actually works for you? I think my zombies don't party as hard as yours do, or something. Not so tired during the day and more ready to wake up. Especially if I'm looting. They hear me ruffle some papers from the next suburb and come running. Okay, so that's an exaggeration, but still, no such thing as silent looting.

thats the ticket... nothing like a surprise when you gain access to a room that doesnt have any zombies in it... ALL CLEAR ... OH S... run!! :)
Yeah those gyro crash rooftop landings will have a whole new meaning.

Yes stealth works in this game, there are verious perks you can invest in that helps with being stealthy and eventually you learn exactly what things will make noise. I can clear most pois regardless of how large without waking a single zombie. Ive also been playing this way since before you could create a stealth build. Before It was possible I just role played preparing for the day stealth became possible.

EDIT: i use windows 10 digital equalizer and surround sound and on top of that the headphones i use are really really good with there own built in sound card that does digital enhancement to the sounds. I have zero issues with sound quality in this game. I can determine distance and direction fine. I know that a few people cannot though.

If I may make a suggestion, maybe a switch that turns off the turret and have something like 3 or 4 possible spawn locations in a poi for said switch. The first time a poi is loaded the game picks 1 of the locations to spawn the switch at.
We'd probably use a random helper for all of it, so you never know where a turret is for sure, or where the power switch is.

My favorite aspect of A18 are the books and schematics found in loot. Everything is more polished and plays smoother and RWG is great but reading a book and hearing the BWOOOOOOOOMMMMM is what makes me smile.
Thank you Madmole for bringing them back and better than ever.
Finally I get to be the hero that saved Christmas. Being in the trenches using the software daily is king. Thank god we're not breaking save games, playing a mid length game now over the course of like 30 builds probably feels great, I'm on day 62 or so now, horde night tomorrow.

Demolisher will be added to GS so maybe tonight I'll face one. Or more...

Does anyone else have the same graphics problems in a few places in the world? These curtains appear in POI's, which you can walk straight through.

And this shows the ground intact, but in fact there's a ramp here.

Same thing happened to me while walking over a mine. Suddenly fell through this texture into the mine.

Just me? Or a common (hopefully fixed) fault?

I have a Nvidia 980GTX, gpu drivers up-to-date

Really? What weapon do you use to kill them without waking them first? Anything silent I've tried takes multiple hits, therefore they have time to wake up and the noise of me fighting (or maybe just running away) wakens others in the area.

<snip>

I use compound bow using...metal arrows, i forget what they are called most of the time 1 hit kill to the head with the right perks selected. sometimes the zombie i target wakes up but another shot or two in the head will put them down without waking the others. I hide in the shadows as well should the targeted z wake, it will not know where i am attacking from. also, i always attack and move around while in a poi in the crouched position in order to be less visible and remain silent and get the x damage from a perk. I forget the names of all the perks or i would list them off.

HYPEWAVE INCOMING!!! GET TO YOUR NEAREST SAFETY SHELTER!

Two smileys!!!

Everyone get in my shelter or get hit with the hypewave!!!
Haha ain't it funny how everybody doesn't give a f***???

I guess Roland overpaced that smiley game before rollout of A17, so everybody is like "meh...we all know when its down to the last smiley, Roland will just add ten other emojis to start a little roleplay with them, just to make fun of those who interpreted it as a countdown"

And those who think like that may be just right.

Cause we all know Roland isn't the "3...2...1...A18" character.

I mean....he's Trolland. He's more like "3...2...1...kiss my a** everybody, I can't believe u fell for it again!" :highly_amused:

That's a bug that's been around since God's dog was a puppy. It's caused by the distant terrain tiles not destroying properly. It only ever happens if you travel far from your base and you can fix it quite easily by reloading the game.

I tend to agree, but I would go one step further and also say that the health, stamina, hunger and thirst bars should really be shown on the screen by default. Of course, it would be nice also if there was a toggle to switch off those bars for minimalists like Roland.
This would be great. I end up checking the character menu way too often to check hunger and thirst numbers and it would be way more convenient to have that on the HUD. I toggle between the outfit screen and the character stats screen a lot, so it just isn't efficient to get basic information like hunger and thirst as it is. Imagine, while running out of pack space while scavenging, you need to decide what to consume/discard. This is a common occurrence for me. If the HUD were compact like RestInPieces demonstrated that would be good, while also showing all the necessary meters.

yeah I can have graphical issues eg some trashcans have like metal cube in them and textures in the house are messedup some times

I used to have that prob all the time. I'm also using a gtx980. The only way I resolved it was to setup a dedicated server here on an old pc I had then start playing on it. Haven't had the problem since. Not a solution that works for everyone though I know Lol

Try upping the perk that increases sneak damage and the boom headshot perk. Once those are up a little I have no probs one shotting ferals even while sneaking
