I also think spoilage would be pretty lame, but I agree that there could be some value to having food-related challenges in the mid-to-late game.
Instead of food generically increasing heat for zombies, what about it creating a different sort of heat that attracts bears? So the more food items you have in a chunk, ESPECIALLY raw meat, the more often a bear comes wandering in to check it out. Just like the screamer mechanic.

The challenge goes from ‘don’t starve’ to ‘don’t get eaten!’ and instead of feeling like food is a non-issue after a certain point it becomes a different kind of issue, one of abundance = danger.

In fact if you had hundreds of meat and food items you could expect 2-3 bears to come sniffing around and more frequent dog pack spawns.

This way when you get to the point you’ve got tons of food and forges/cement mixers/chem stations working you have zombies AND animals frequently checking out your base.

But this wouldn’t prevent you from questing, exploring, etc. It would just mean there’s a good chance when you come home there will be a bear or two near your base.
Do you really think couple of bear are going to touch you in mid game in your base? I'm pretty sure I won't go out to hunt them during mid game..

is A17.5 coming anytime soon?
possibly not... {[(possibly is not always 100% nor a signed contract)]}, any bug reports written for a17.4 will be checked against a18 and if found to be an issue then it is fixed for a18... so in a way your helping with a18 as well.

BUT bleep bleep happens as we all know. :)

I would just troll all fellas and release a18 as a17.5 and watch their faces.

So what you're saying is we dont need a list of what perks can be unlocked by looting schematics because every single perk has a schematic that can be found?
Man, looting just got HYPED again!

Great change.
He basically said "zero perks can be found in books", not "no, perks can be found in books".

Will the new inteligence turrets be stackable in the inventory? I mean, not a big stack size so you can build a panic room in the open without sacrificing iinventory slots, but I think a stack of 2 or 3 per slot would make sense.
Why would you be able to stack a gun with quality, stats and ammo count?

Ah no worries, they are mountains for us Dutch people ^-^ The highest mountain in our country being 200-300 m I believe.
No wonder my forefathers (100% dutch) didn't mind immigrating to Nebraska, the flat life.

From what I understand, there are books, that give special bonuses. When you find one, you get a bonus, if you find the entire collection, you get something special.

Then there are schematics, that unlock recipes.

Perks give you bonuses, unrelated to books and they also unlock recipes.

So if you want to craft something, you can buy the perk or try to find the schematic (recipe), but the perk is still relevant as an investment because of the bonus it gives.
Basically you restated what I already wrote :)

Look what dumb people make him do...

I think this is a stupid question...but i'll ask anyways :D !!!!

How many frames is your animator working with for every animation?

Hi Faatal. Interesting stuff.
You said the depth camera converts things to low res, but can/does it also 'see' every voxel? My point is maybe only seeing every second or third voxel (over distance) would halve the work? Maybe even more so than lowering the res (even though higher res would be pointless).
It does not work at the voxel (block) level. An occludee can hide whatever it is attached to. Currently one occludee hides an entire chunk (16x16x16). Chunks can have up to 11 renderers in them, but typically 5-6. I plan on hiding other types of objects, when I get back to it, but needed to get some other things done (timed charge, thrown weapon improvements, explosions and sleeper adjustments).

Hi madmole,

Now that you have played the stealth build... did you notice how weird it is that hitting blocks while stealthed generates no noise whatsoever?

Also, does stepping off of tiny heights (i.e. half block) still generate a noise spike?

Honestly these two issues made me stop playing stealth in A17.

There is a book tab in the skills menu that shows what books you've read. I'll do a video on books next.
Thats good, but it doesn't show what books are out in the wild to discovering, giving new players the incentive for go hunt for them. Otherwise people will just be googling a wiki list.

Thrown weapon improvements.... can we please get a see through preview arc like so many other games have?

Why would you be able to stack a gun with quality, stats and ammo count?
True, was mostly thinking about the already existing turrets and somehow lumped the new gun in the same category. Nevertheless, I think that having more than one available at a time opens up an exciting new gameplay option - place one gun down and keep one on yourself, best case scenario your damage output doubles. That in itself makes a lot of difference in single player games.

Most geologists classify a mountain as a landform that rises at least 1,000 feet (300 meters) or more above its surrounding area.

As far as I know the English had quite a hand in deciding what a mountain is. This is why the highest point in England is one of the world's smallest mountains.

After watching madmole's vid, I must say, I love the way they resolved animal tracking. With that ability into play, animals could be made faster now, and hunting would be a lot more interesting.
