Is that true of A17.2 or A17.3? Because A17.1 my damage on all weapons and tools goes up by painting those suckers green. :-D

Woo! Lots of love being angrily shot around. Wanted in on it.

Yeah, it doesn't make any sense if you only quote my reply, not what I was replying to. ;) - Gazz
Aw man I want one of those fancy little Gold Texts under one of my posts. How controversial do i have to be get one?

Ok here goes nothing. Marvel Cinematic Universe is boring.

@khz

I didn't say it wasn't legitimate, I said it was ambiguous.

...just like asking what gold will be like.

We can only extrapolate their intentions by reading the xmls, deriving what the broken stuff is intended for, and abusing the dll's to uncover tucked away programs.

The prefab editor has been in the game for a while, for instance. The wolf, gyro, heck even a horse.

So we can make educated guesses, but that's about it.

The same logic and methodology is used for modding.

We have ai tasks in entityclasses, and an entirely separate faction based system in another XML. So, we can /guess/ factions are going to be supported.

...we can also be wrong.

So yes, it's a legit question, but the op has made it a personal mission to get the answer, and I find that hilarious.

Sorry Roland....

I'm not sure what some people expect from "mod support".A game creation engine like the Adventure Construction Set? A graphical interface? At what point does it become "support"?

There is a lot of documentation in and outside the game files. More than would be needed for development use.

XPATH is clearly working and there are no attempts made to break it. Does anyone really think this is an accident?

Modders are not consumers but creative and enterprising souls. If the game is interesting and has the scope to capture their imagination then all you really have to do is not to create any artificial obstacles and get the hell out of the way.
Exactly. And I think modders have been proving for YEARS we do not need the "Ok guys it's NOW officially supported" green light to make any mods. Just go and do it. It's fun and addictive. Why wait? Because you may have to redo some work the next Alpha? If that truly bothers you then maybe modding ISN'T for you because modders accept these things as part of any game development.

Do you know how many times mods broke in Conan, Ark, Minecraft etc even after release? You mod because you LOVE the work, not because you one and done it and expect that it will stand the test of time for decades. TFP have opened it up wide for us. If they do it some more fantastic. If not, well shucks. It won't stop me from modding what we already can and trying to find new ways to do things.

Its the nature of the hobby.

And no current modder had any kind of official documentation. We dug in and learned, or talked to others that learned the same way. That's why modding is a COMMUNITY. Lone wolves can do it, they just have a harder time but even for them there's plenty of tutorials on YouTube by now to learn it on your own. If people are waiting for a How To from a Fun Pimp themselves well.... LOL. Show me one other game with a huge modding community where a developer designed a how to on every aspect of modding their game.

The way I understand it, "free speech" in the USA meaning (there are as many definitions as there are countries) is that the government will not take legal action against you... unless it does. So it's more free-ish speech.

Dude is mistaken, and creating a strawman argument, nothing to see here.

Also, gazz does unofficial official docs in XML.txt

There is "official documentation" in many XML files and XML.txt.

Not all of it is mine. It will always be incomplete and partially outdated because that's not my "real job".

If anyone wants to overhaul something like XML.txt - be my guest. I'll happily upload that to the folder instead.

Just wouldn't want to make that anything complicated so it's 1980s technology: a text file.

That's true only if you think asking "what gold will be like" is ambiguous.

People on this forum have been asking that for as long as these forums have existed, and they're not in the wrong to ask about it.

"Ambiguous" questions like these are what drives communication between TFP and the community (modders like yourself included) and should only be viewed as a positive thing.

We (including you) shouldn't be forced to extrapolate TFP's intentions from the XML, especially as it is ever-changing and not sufficiently documented. We shouldn't have to make educated guesses.

Even if things are incomplete and unfinished, we should at least have some communication about it from the horse's mouth. Not finished specs necessarily, but at least a roadmap of TFP's intents.

That is my only point.

Certainly was not trying to take that away. When I started those didn't exist. Like you said its not your actual job to make those and you have no obligation to do so. We are of course very grateful that you do but it wasn't always like that.

Though Vanilla is the most common way a game is played. So I hope people can be satisfied with a Vanilla version of this game. Else it's screwed.
THAT. And many people tend to forget that when talking about modding :-)

It's the ever changing part that's why they shouldn't document it yet. We get little notes in XML that never come to fruition... The literal words "wish list".

But if you insist on documentation, then I suppose the XML.txt file and the headers/footers on the other XML files count? I dunno. Most of that info is outdated these days, or incomplete.

7 days to die "mod support" counciling will be open 9am to 5pm Mon to Fri. All those whom need mod support are highly encouraged to attend.

Yours faithfully

I dont really need to remember that because I dont play vanilla. Probably never will after 17. But thats ok because it is still a great game.

That's also why I try to argue for less removal of mechanics and more additions. I want the vanilla game to be the best it can be and as full as it can be. But then we go back to the "mod it" debate. Or I get accused of trying to force my style of gameplay onto others by championing vanilla additions so...

*shrug*

no winners i guess?

Hmm, I must have overlooked that criteria in the job role when I signed up.

I'm literally serious, though.

If anyone wants to create less "incomplete and outdated" documentation I'm more than happy to include it. Hehe
