...which have been answered a billion times.
Currently the only official tools are the ones they've provided.

You want answers to questions that are just as ambiguous as "what will the game look like when it goes gold".
Which are? What official TFP post says X tool is supported? Again, why is this issue being ignored?

Post links.

It may come as a shock but other folks are dismayed by this lack of info. I simple don’t give a ♥♥♥♥ if I piss of people by asking direct questions. You can take all the insult you want from it. It’s a valid topic.

The tools are in the game. Unsure what you don't see. That's the only supported modding tool set.

@jack love you too buddy :)

So basically the rwg view and prefab exporter?

That’s not mod support.

I pretty much made this exact point in another post.
Having All mods by day 35, assuming 60 min days is 35 hours of playtime. This is too long for a 20 hour game you are planning. Dont lock content behind walls that 2 percent of us will see.

Why is xpath supported but not documented then?
Because TFP didn't create XPATH and all of the XPATH documentation anyone could ever need is already published on the internet or in books? Not to mention how many people would just complain about the quality of the documentation, the lack of documentation, "Why does that one guy know about this feature and I didn't (1%er!)", why aren't they working on feature XYZ, because EVERYONE wants XYZ...

"What do you mean you can't tell me what color the carpet is going to be? This is ridiculous!"

Link to where TFP said xpath was supported for mods. Thanks.

Can’t actually have any mods right now, because it’s all just tomfoolery ;)

Ran what you said through gizoogle = more pimpin'
There is no thangs up in dis biatch fo' We already gotz a rare schematic you need ta find. Y'all KNOW dat ♥♥♥♥, mutha♥♥♥♥a! What tha ♥♥♥♥ iz tha fundamenstrual difference, biatch? Yo ass *know* dis recipe but you still gotta go find a rare thang ta make dat ♥♥♥♥. Which is exactly how tha ♥♥♥♥ it is now except you don't give a ♥♥♥♥ it yo, but you need ta find tha rare schematic fo' realz. At tha end of tha dizzle it would be a funky-ass bunch of work changin suttin' dat works fine, ta suttin' nearly identical. It aint nuthin but tha nick nack patty wack, I still gots tha bigger sack. Well shiiit, it would add mo' clutta objects dat have limited craftin value cloggin up playas inventory n' be mo' work makin these items, localization, etc.
Hahaha didn't expect that.

Maybe do something similar to Fallout where scrapping items gives you a chance to learn how to craft it? Could tie the probability to a skill/perk.

Also maybe the ones you can make after learning aren't quite as good, since you don't have the schematic so it's not as well built as it could be.

I'm not saying it is, they said it is, or isn't, or they said it isn't.

I'm specifically replying to your post, where you said it was supported, but not documented.

It’s fine. I asked a simple question, but let me just boil it down again anyway.
Why can’t TFP simple state what the intended end game for modding is. Saying steam workshop isn’t an answer because that is simply a delivery mechanism.

Why can’t we have an official thread on what tools are used for modding that are “officially” supported?

If the answer is it isn’t decided yet fine. But instead there is non answers and just non productive “you are trashing someone and don’t have a real question”

If you don’t want to answer it that’s fine. Just say it isn’t decided. I asked very direct questions.
Im not sure what hill you are trying to die on here.

There IS no mod support. The modders who do the work do it because they love it. The official support begins AFTER gold. You know what tools to use. Ill be making my own tutorials for dummies soon as well and posting them to YouTube. We are 100 percent community driven and supported right now with the cherry on top being the Pimps Do what they can along the way to help us out and add stuff for us.

Official support isn't in yet. Even Xpath is at a preliminary stage and could change and grow before gold. Like with Localization support. This is ALL part of the EA process.

And stop putting down people who do basic xml editing. You and I are no better than anyone here and it's a ♥♥♥♥ty attitude to have, a toxic one. You can make the greatest most visually appealing mod in the world but if you are a ♥♥♥♥y prick no one will give a ♥♥♥♥. THAT's your first lesson.

At one point I need Valmar to tell me how to make a plant break down into a seed. We ALL start somewhere. It's the attitude of US modders who determine if those beginners keep learning or get scared away by asinine attitudes.

to me it doesn't make sense that painting a club makes it deal more damage, yet a higher quality club doesn't
didn't you think about making quality give the 15% base increase mods currently do? and then mods only add their unique effects?
There are many mods that don't "add damage".

Burst fire, dyes, scopes...

Right now every mod is clearly valuable. Remove that and some are very weak or useless. Useless mods were not a design goal. =)

Is that true of A17.2 or A17.3? Because A17.1 my damage on all weapons and tools goes up by painting those suckers green. :-D

Also...

Heart heart heart heart heart heart HEART!

:angry face:

Woo! Lots of love being angrily shot around. Wanted in on it.

Yeah, it doesn't make any sense if you only quote my reply, not what I was replying to. ;) - Gazz

I respectfully disagree. It is at least a legitimate question to ask, and so far at least it has not been answered (rightly or wrongly).

An analogy is to ask "Is TFP planning to support XPath before gold?"

As of A16 it's absolutely a legit question. It's only "not legit" now because they already support XPath in A17, so we know the answer is "yes."

Personally, I still have a million questions to ask about what modding will support. XML defined factions? Variable allegiances? NPC behavior hooks that support "followers?" Traders that align to different factions (like bandit traders)?

We don't have to know that they are being implemented in A17.3 or A18, or even that they are being planned for vanilla. We just need to know if those modding capabilities are on the roadmap, and are planned for gold. (Regardless of whether they actually make it into gold - if not, that sucks, but oh well.)

This is not an unreasonable ask at all. In fact it's a basic ask about the future of the game - no better or worse than asking if bandits are on the roadmap for gold. The answer could be "yes" or "no" but I think we are all entitled to knowing if it will ever be possible. Even an answer of "we don't know yet" is fine. Still means it is a legitimate question to ask.

I'm not sure what some people expect from "mod support".

A game creation engine like the Adventure Construction Set? A graphical interface? At what point does it become "support"?

There is a lot of documentation in and outside the game files. More than would be needed for development use.

XPATH is clearly working and there are no attempts made to break it. Does anyone really think this is an accident?

Modders are not consumers but creative and enterprising souls. If the game is interesting and has the scope to capture their imagination then all you really have to do is not to create any artificial obstacles and get the hell out of the way.

Rail gun? Need more details about this.
It's a really big gun that shoots pieces of railway track. /nod
