Thanks for the reply MM. Any chance you could show off a bit more of the PVE with another player or more to show off some of the improvements in regard to that experience?
I doubt it, unless we miss Friday's ship date, in which I'll have a couple more weeks to do nothing but make videos and test.

Thanks. That's what I've been worrying about.

Yes, you do level up and there are perks (done in a pretty cool and lore-friendly way too IMO). Later you will also get an entirely new progression system unlocked.

Witcher 3 is one of the games which really opens up after you play a little bit after the beginning. I really suggest you push through the beginning, and soon the game will become great for you.
I'll have to keep plugging away and hope to get over the hump with it.

level 6 AK at day 7....luck or cheating?
If luck I'm glad to see we can find high level weapons early on :)
I never cheat items in. I have 3 ranks of lucky looter, so luck + perk investment, so I hope I got extremely lucky or lucky looter perk is getting nerfed. It will take more looting to know for sure.

The worst cheating I do is rarely teleport to get my stuff when I die a long ways from my base and there is no chance of getting it because of ferals deep in tier 5, like I died at dusk and I don't want to drive a full real time hour to get my things. Considering I could use the option "drop nothing" on death I don't feel like its cheating, but like I said in my 100 hour previous game I might have done that twice fairly early on. Normally I go get my stuff the hard way.

I commented on your twitter, I have used that POI for horde night before. They love to get all clumped up on the underside. You can't see/shoot them, and they will take out your floor... just a tip, wish I had a dang heads up when I did it.
Going to record it? I would love to see how the night unfolds...
Yeah I saw that. I blocked it off with spikes and my cheese ramp had most of them coming up that. I've never made a cheese ramp before, but they were jumping the gap (2 meters) so that was a surprise, I took a few pieces off (I didn't upgrade the frames) and they were still a few making the jump occasionally. A few were around back messing around, but most of them stayed out from underneath. Later on a couple got in there but I jumped down and rekt them since the main horde was over.

I just posted where I'm building, its beautiful :) I was SO happy to get out of the snow biome.

AH, ok, if it is not for smell then it does seem like a good framework to use to bring that system back. I don't actually want smell back, personally, but it does seem interesting, if implemented right.
We'll see we once the base 18 plays nice we can talk about it. To me it was always just a pain in the ■■■, like we already have jerks sandwiching you in pois as is, I don't know if its even needed. I mean it had its moments for sure, it just makes you do more prep storing your stuff in boxes.

The maxAlive can definitely be gamed that way, but the way I see it, if they're coming in from the outside while you're trapped inside, or if they're inside coming at you while you're surrounded, it's the same experience. Hella'fun. :)
I know, I know, dead horse, but at least my way you aren't bored outside.

Who's in charge of the targeted encounter code? I assume faatal? He hasn't steered us wrong yet so definitely something I'm looking forward to.
Its just an idea gaining traction, not on the roadmap yet. We hired a guy highly recommended by Faatal, so perhaps he will do it or work with Faatal to make it happen. Bandits first probably.

I think you are going really have even higher faith in him when 18 drops, 17 was like core job done, lots of great framework, 18 is like making a game with all that engine for 10 months, the difference is night and day, just loads of little polish things that can't be noticed until you play.

Well, tomorrow it's my birthday so... you can release the kraken now. Thank you, what an amazing birthday gift!
EDIT: Thank you so much for the early A18 access key! you guys rock
Happy birthday and grats on the key! That’s a very nice gift

I wish you'd drop lucky looter... Makes no sense that you'd find *better* loot.
...maybe if it just increases chances that you'd find loot, sure. But better loot?
You need to just start massaging that rusty part of your brain to think in abstracts.

Like once you learn a bit of the level tricks you know theres loot behind paintings, sometimes safes are under couches, etc. Now imagine the perk says "I've committed to studying where people hide their BEST ♥♥♥♥, like a compartment behind the safe, etc" and abstract that into finding better stuff. At the end of the day its like your 10 levels higher. Your going to find that stuff eventually, you just find it a bit sooner.

I've never used it until now. Still finding loads of brown, and there is a chance to find pink at level 0, but its slim. Its slim late game too just not as slim :)

Lucky looter is one perk I've been wondering about with the new specialization, but not much because it can be worked around by more looting. Seems to be the same with a number of others. I know we can grab a few from other 'classes' without diverging from specialization too much, no big deal.
However, secret stash has me really concerned. Has it been changed or removed in a18? Maxing this one out feels a little bit harder to live without if I ever hope to get some solar panels or other rare stuff.

Edit: I mean the stash bonus included in later levels of better barter, that is.
In my 100 hour fort build I never had lucky looter or secret stash, because I wanted to feel the vanilla loot redistribution.

I doubt it, unless we miss Friday's ship date, in which I'll have a couple more weeks to do nothing but make videos and test.
Fact: You will miss it. (2 to 8 bugs left by Friday 20 current speedy rate).

I would love to see you tweak mid-late game with the perception/int build, so the best thing for us common folk is an October 2 with Madmole playing his game.

(--runs away in the distance with a huge Neon "Off topic" sign post--)

Lucky Looter is pretty busted for your current design of extending early game considering it gives you better stuff much earlier in loot. I'd recommend changing it so you find more things, not better thing
That is actually an option now, so we'll see how things go.

A18? Leveled loot has been in game for a few alphas now and Lucky Looter is a perk. There maybe be confusion because Madmole also made a book series called The Lucky Looter (which is fine). Also legendary loot is not coming in A18 (unless its a suprise).
Basically Game staged loot coupled with the perk guarentee you will be swimming in the best gear. As it has been for a while now. Now if you can imagine when they introduce Legendary gear then maxing out Lucky Looter right away would be a no brainier. Especially with no level gates coming, starting in A18.

When they first added it that was the first thing people maxed out. Even going so far as to not loot any POIs until it was. It was insane.
oh....roger now it all makes sense. Thanks for explaining that :)

MM or anyone who knows...
Is there going to be an experimental/unstable early release for those willing to go through and find any bugs/glitches and report them? If so, is there a time-frame on when that might be? Thanks.
Yes, experimental when its done, then stable when experimental is bug free.

Granted, i like the sound of redrock.

Nice! Got some similar tastes i see.

Yeah in the witcher you also have perks which (hah!) you can unlock with xp. You can only unlock a minor portion of them all in a single playthrough.

Lol yeah i guess that will work..

I already have a red beard man ^-^
We did shorten the tutorial and now you get the perk points when the tutorial is done, then you go to the trader.

It drains a good amount of food in 17 but food is plentiful enough that it really does not matter. I notice a pretty big difference in how often I eat after I get my minibike though. Enough that there are times I just skip the bike entirely.
No idea about cardio.
Yeah pedaling sucks lol, literally the food right out of you. Especially in the cold. I have no food but some eggs right no, I ate so many steaks its not even funny.

@madmole I have a QoL request, can we get the animations for eating/drinking less laggy when using them from the inventory? There is a significant delay to being able to press the "Use" button again after eating and drinking and it makes it rather annoying to eat multiple things.
There is an xml command that you can add that bypasses the animation, you can see it on the new books in the book videos. Its there for a reason, if you can spam eat a bunch of things or spam heal with a bandage It kind of removes too much pressure from the player. Waiting to bandage is good for game play because you can't fight back while you are bandaging and it adds tension.

Nice, man the game really does keep looking better and better, anticipation boosted even more.

Jumping a 2x gap eh, was that normal before? I always kept such gaps at 3 or more, but although I never built ramps like that, I did work similar methods into a few POIs I modded for horde night which basically did the same thing. If they managed to get so far along the path made, which rarely happened, they would fall and have to start over. So same principle.

Sounds like you kept them out from underneath, not so ■■■■■■■ 1st horde night. The one time I used that POI was actually in an MP game, it was beyond night 7 and there were 3 of us up there... so tons more Z in total. They clumped up below and were taking out our floor. Good times. At the end of the night we noticed our neighbors still up top and this noob girl one-shot it in the face the nano-second we took the door down. Twas memorable, wish I hadn't had coffee in my mouth when it happened, my poor keyboard.

Maybe it got nerfed I know we talked about it. But I like the idea of just getting more items too. I'll see how this play through goes. I have lucky goggles now too lol.

It very well could be, I don't know the specifics on the bugs.
