PC Alpha 17 video card usage

Windows home 10 64 bit

Radeon R9 270X video card with 2 gigs memory

Even with modest graphics settings GPU usage was in the 90% - 100% range. Turned the graphics way down just to get usage in the 80% range.

Alpha 16 GPU runs in the 16%

Will the developers be improving GPU usage in 17?

I have a 1080 ti and its running, heavy usage. I had to use Afterburner to up my fan speeds to keep it cool, as it was running hot - which was causing lag, fps, and other issues.

Wierdly, I can run any other game at full like Skyrim Fallout4 , etc. so when I was having issues here I was surprised at the load it put on my card.

Card stays nice and cool now, so no issues. Its used heavily but can handle it.

Your kidding, right?
The jargon and conclusion thrown around is, 'optimization' doesn't come until AFTER alpha. So long as the client is able to function, it's 'fine' for now. Yes and no, to whether he's kidding.

Isn't the whole game in alpha, even 16?

Didn't the developers say the new game engine would improve performance?

I noticed that my GPU usage was a bit higher than normal. Around 80% and I have a gtx980. I was never more than maybe 60% before in A16. Then I remembered that I generally run with V-Sync turned on in this game. I looked and sure enough, it was off. I turned it back on and my usage went down to 60-65%.

I don't recommend you use V-Sync unless you always get more FPS than the refresh rate of your monitor. However, that might be something you could try. In my case the game stays locked at 60FPS and my GPU has less work to do without having to process all those extra frames.

1) You are HORRIBLE at sarcasm.

2) Don't play experimental, its most raw, bug ridden and unoptimized version possible. Its early access to early access.

If you expect good performance, wait for stable release.

Performance was improved and those gains were spent on other improvements. The devs are working on optimizations both cpu and gpu but those will take time.

I was so disappointed with 17 I went back to 16.

But that is a topic for another thread
