PC Advice from the vets?

Recently I have stepped my difficulty up, and I have been having a blast!  But I noticed something.  Since I started playing (on and off) in Alpha 18, I have only played two main trees.  Strength and Science.  Both trees are strong and super helpful in early game getting started, so I naturally gravitated to that.  But now, been there, done that.  So my question is, are the other attributes viable to go full blast into?  I'm not trying to start a balance discussion, just getting some pointers and ideas from folks  who have done it before.   I can see Fortitude being fun, and I have heard about sneaky players (also heard a lot of complaints about stealth, but meh).  Just looking for ideas for my next playthrough. 

     Also, I got the game for my daughter and we play together occasionally.  She is Str and I'm Science, but we're only on day 20 so I can change that.  Perhaps your ideas will give me direction to try something else.  As always, all replies are appreciated!

My vet told me to never, ever shave the left half of my dog's body again (or the right, but I think they're just being petty on that one).  My wife, who is a military vet, agreed.

 
Why not combine multiple stats?  I tend to go hard with Strength and Agility.  Parkour is absolutely amazing when leveled up, flurry of blows is great, but you want those club and stamina perks, too.

 
I also had same issue where I was constantly maxing out STR and INT so in my previous run I decided to do something different and I tried out Perception/Demolitions expert and I really had a blast (no pun intended) as the rocket launcher could easily clear swarms of zombies on horde night. I could also 1shot zombie bears with it on warrior difficulty and made wasteland a lot less scarier haha. Also found exploding arrows/bolts to be fun as well, for when the zombies are cluttered around my door on horde night. And the great thing about the rocket ammo is that it does not require brass -- so it does not compete for bullet resource in that regards.

I still put points into STR (for melee, shotguns, heavy armor and resource farming related perks) and INT (to buy necessary schematics or workstations that I would otherwise have to spec into), but rather than trying to max out STR to 10, I would stop at 7 (6 with cigar), which meant I save 10 points. I would still try to get int to 9 in my playthrough, but maybe later in the game than usual. I found maxing out STR was not necessary for me.

Wish I still had that save -- I played on a semi-private server that has wiped since then.

Agi + Perception is fun even if you don't go stealth right away.

Agi for knives / bow / handguns

Per for Lucky / Spears / and Deadeye

Of course you still need your points in cooking and fort for other survival skills, but I usually play agi + per, even with how much I have agitated over the aggro the whole room areas.  Which, I must admit have been happening much less now that I'm more aware of where I'm at and how I approach certain POIs.

STR and INT are good starting points but if both of you are throwing points into the same tree then that becomes counterproductive. You're supposed to be working together.

There are 5 trees. So why not one of you focus STR and INT while the other focuses on two others.

I would suggest Perception and Agility.

Simply put, yes. Any of the trees 'alone' is fine, and merely a tad harder. If it's not STR, I'd aim not to mine too much.. if it's not INT, building benches and vehicles may take quite a while.

My favorite "single build" is Agi, parkour is pretty darn handy and the pistol gameplay suits me nicely, going for a lot of headshots in close range.

 
The three best pieces of advice I got:

1) Express the anal glands at least twice a year, or more often if you're trying to monetize the channel

2) Obsessive toy-humping can be stopped with increased outdoor activity

3) It is perfectly normal to sniff butts as a greeting, however not everyone is comfortable with that so ask first

Vet jokes aside...

It's nice that you and your Daughter are playing together and having fun btw :)

I also play with 2 friends I met randomly playing on a 7 days to die server and found out we all have different playing styles and also flexible, and now we play many different Survival games together because we can quickly learn and adapt together which improves our survival and having fun together. :)

In 7 days to die you will want a Builder / farmer type and the other a Scavenger / Quester, Both effective fighting and using different weapon type and ammo so to not over lap on ammo types.  So Builder/Farmer the STR/FORT at 7 points ea, Weapons -shotgun, machine gun, club or sledge later specialise in heavy armor.  You will be great at building, mining cooking and farming.  Combatively you be eventually tanky with big guns late game.  The scavenger / Quester will do PER/AGI at 7 ea as well as nursing INT as needed for Adventurer and Bartering for better prices and rewards to help the "group" get stuffs early game.  Weapons Pistols (SMG end game) and (Bows or Sniper rifle). Melee weapon of choice Blades.  As with Agility pick Light armor.   This way you are not fighting over armor types and ammo types.

You can adjust preferences one way or the other as long you don't overlap armors and guns using same ammo types esp ammo or you be selling off ammo not using and fighting over the ammo you take from each other.

BTW, early game just use Padded armor since it does NOT require armor specialisation or reduce stamina or movement wearing it and it at least gives some protection until you are able to dump ranks into Heavy or Light armor and get armor mods to reduce stamina and movement loss.   Someone get 1 into cooking and find a pot so you can fry up bacon and eggs for days until you get farming up.

Woah, just by posting a potentially useless advice I can give myself the rank of veteran! Count me in 😉

I usually go for single attributes, except for single points in essentials like LotL if no one else does that. And max most of that attribute out, especially in multiplayer.

Most other attributes are more difficult to play than a strength build, but in multiplayer I play at a difficulty setting where that doesn't make much of a difference.

The main difference IMO is that all other atrributes make melee more difficult, more player-skill based. If you are good at that you will have fun with other melee weapons, if you are bad at that you will wish for a club or often use bows and guns extensively to compensate.

Also, AGI/stealth is the most interesting attribute to play if you want a change from STR builds because it changes playstyle a lot. Scavenging is slower and if you are someone who is always in a hurry you might not really like it. And you can't really play stealth style effectively if you quest in a group in multiplayer. So even in MP I tend to separate often from my group for questing.

   One stealth one brawler/tank/melee is fun and great for protecting each other when it all goes tits up and you can still have the usual mix of other skills for mining etc.

 
Maybe approach it from a character class approach i.e. what do you want to be. I've wondered what it would be like to be a "ranger" or someone who rlly prefers to live away from the cities. So imo that would be an emphasis on Fortitude for the survival/food skills (huntsman, iron gut, living off the land, etc) and Perception for spears, animal tracking, and salvaging, then some archery from Agility (doesn't seem you need much). I've gone that direction  for awhile in early game but haven't built a character like that *yet* , but I plan on it. That's just an example - is there some type of character/profession that you want to play?  [Good timing for this post as we're on a new map and most of my points are of course funneled into Str and Int atm...lol]

 
Given the nature of the game in its current state, I'd advise having you two pick roles. I do with my wife, and we pan out well. 

Game those stats and work with the weaknesses. My wife usually goes for a scrapper/farmer build and I go for the more offensive build. Come hoard night it evens out because we build a base dedicated to it (kill corridor) and we just stack our guns and ammo for it in the early game. I don't know how old your daughter is, but if you're encountering more of difficulty via time, maybe boost your XP gain up and start there. Even going to 150% speeds you up pretty well, and 200% for experienced players is like crack. It gives you a chance to gain more points faster and open that window to be more diverse. It will also boost your gamestage so beware. Early hoards will be bigger and later hoards will be much nastier, as well as sleepers and it does open up wandering hoards a lot quicker. 

You'll get hooked on levelling faster so remember to spend it wisely because it plateaus pretty fast and you'll wanna bump it again.
