PC acquiring solar banks - all methods v1.2

Hello all,

Just preparing for my first game since full release. I need to know the following:

What are all known ways to acquire solar banks in v1.2:

I know they are available in secret stashes of traders and through the traders in general, quests etc.

I'm particularly interested in whether they can be acquired outside the bounds of traders. Can Solar Bank Bundles be found in late game, high loot stage T5 POI Harden chests or maybe late game airdrops?

Solar banks and solar cells are found at a trader (there is no secret stash anymore, btw).  You can buy them or get them as a reward.  I believe there is a very rare chance of getting a solar bundle from an air drop, though I haven't seen one since probably A20.  You really aren't going to have any realistic chance of getting them except from a trader.  At least, not without using a mod.  But they are very easy to get from a trader.

Side note: This isn't full release.  This is still basically Alpha 22.  "Full" release won't be for a couple of years.  See the roadmap they posted.

Any way we can tell from the files if Solar Bank bundles can drop from supply drops?

Also, by low chance, do you mean the drop rate is lower than any of the other bundles that can drop from supply drops or do you just mean the chance is inherently low because of the sheer number of bundles that can drop?

I'm sure it is in there, but I don't know where air drops appear since I rarely look at those files.  Someone else could probably tell you specifically.  As far as a rare chance of dropping from air drops, I'm basing that on observation.  I set air drops to daily (I like them) and have not seen a solar bundle from one since either A20 or A21.  I don't remember which.  That means they are either no longer in the air drops or else they are set to a very low drop chance in them.

I have looked at the loot.xml. The solar bank cannot be found in the airdrop. Apparently you can only get it as a quest reward or you can buy it from the trader. You have the best chance with Trader Bob.

Alright, thx all, appreciated 👍

I'm gearing up for another no-trader game (best experience so far), so it looks like I'll be looking for a mod solution - either craftable solar banks or a mod that makes the banks lootable in hardened crates.

btw, I'm not masochistic, I relax the horde night settings a bit to compensate for the absence of traders - which of course ease difficulty in general.

While you're at it, it might also be a good idea to increase your chances of finding the gatherer, tarp and water filter. Every trader has them in stock but with no traders it will be hard to get your hands on these. Theoretical you can also find them in destroyed dew collectors but they are etremly rare. The chance of getting one of these items from a destroyed dew collector is so low that I have only found a gatherer once in several playthroughs of more than 70 hours each.

Appreciate the input. I might do this, however, in my last no-trader game (only got to day 30 or so), water was not a problem at all , with loot respawn on , was looting murky water from toilets and converting it to mineral water easily , which of course gives major hydration boosts. I think you are saying I will not be able to automate water production. I'm at peace with this, I love the survival aspect of the game.

Also correct me if I'm wrong, but without traders there's still a chance I'll get the helmet water purifier mod and I can carry a 2nd helmet around for sipping from natural water sources?

Even if I loot the gatherers, tarps and filters on like day 700 from a T5 hardened crate, that's still fine with me - sort of a final stage of progression I can look forward to.

You can craft dew collectors but you need significantly more for the same output than if you have a gatherer and a tarp and without a water filter you have to boil the water to be able to use it. You can find enough water for drinking but for the production of glue and tape you usually need more than you can find in toilets. At least that's the case for me.

Are there searchable broken down dew collectors that respawn their loot? So far the one's I've encountered  in tests are destroyed after you search them. So basically are broken down dew collectors a limited finite resource?

If you are looking for respawning water you are better off with watercoolers and toilets. Things that are broken down usualy don't refresh. If you don't use traders you can not reset POI with quests to fix broken items.

No, the loot of destroyed dew collectors does not respawn. It is a limited resource.

I'd assume they re-spawn with the timed chunk reset mechanism, thou.. haven't tested.
Yes, if you are resetting chunks, you should see POI be reset and that includes anything like a broken dew collector.

The mod is available without traders, though you may or may not ever find one.  Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't by the end of a game.  Mineral water is great, once you find the book for it.  That could also take a long time, though you do have other drink options that work really well if you can't make mineral water.

As mentioned, you can make murky water with cheaply crafted dew collectors if you need them.  It's not as good as a fully modded one, but you can still get plenty of water and make as many as you need.  You just have to boil it and you need more dew collectors for the same amount of water.  That being said, even though I set dew collectors up and mod them as soon as possible, I usually stop gathering from them around the end of week 1 and rarely get anything from them again for the rest of the game.  I find plenty of water for my needs.  But I also don't craft tons of stuff since I find most of what I need.  If you do a lot of crafting, you will need more water for all the glue so you can make all the duct tape you need.

I know we got slightly off topic here and we are now talking about the ultra-rare helmet water purifier mod. Just wanted to share what just happened to me:

I was fiddling around sort of running a pre-test game that I knew I'd be deleting, but just one step before I start an actual world I'll be sticking with and you'll never guess what I looted in around the 3rd Sedan I came across on Day 1 at about 11 am in the initial wilderness spawn highway area....... helmet water purifier mod. I'm not keeping the save either, had to tweak the world a bit. I did put 2 points in lucky looter.

I cried for a few hours, but I'm doing fine now.

Gotta love RNG! 😁

I just found the helmet water purifier mod today. To be honest I never think about it so didn't know it was a rarer mod to find
