PC ability to Dig down for zombies. WHY

No dude, we want to play a survival base-building game and not an action FPS.
as i said then, there is minecraft.... thats perfect for what you want... a survival base building game... I love how you forgot this is a ZOMBIE post apocalypse survival base building game... you forgot the zombie part... cant have zombies without action FPS unless you take out all of the guns... but then again we come back to minecraft so.... maybe you should try stop making this game something that it wasnt trying to be.. its not trying to be a minecraft clone so it cant just be a pure survival base building game like you want it to be.. learn what you truly want in a game then pick the game that matches it instead of complaining about the wrong type of game that you are playing. Another thing is, you said you want a survival base building game but yet you are defending not being able to be safe with digging a hole in the ground... THATS NOT BASE BUILDING.. thats a hole in the ground.....

Digging is not such problem, it will actually will force us to play more actively... But in PVP servers, underground bases will be near useless, since their best protection is the concealment... Anyway we will have time to test when alpha is out.
expanding on my concrete sheet idea, theyre only gonna dig to you on horde nights so if you wanted to stay concealed you could just lower the concrete block sheet and then cover it with dirt, only after horde nights would it reveal you, which adds a nice gameplay element of searching for peoples underground bases during/just after every 7 days. Sounds like much more fun.

Wow...I've never really though about this. On the one hand it's unrealistic and immersion-breaking to have zombies digging through solid rock, but on the other hand it's necessary for play-balance in a survival-type game, but on the other hand since this is in fact an open-ended game (i.e. not a puzzle, or story-drive game), shouldn't players be able to enjoy it in whichever way they choose? On the other hand if you don't have some standards laid out in a core game, then comparison between experiences becomes impossible.
I'm pretty amazed that nobody's EVER brought up this issue before. It profoundly impacts the very soul of 7D2D.

:congratulatory:

LOL Yah, this comes up every once in awhile and turns into a thread about why zombies aren't realistic versus all the ways zombies could exist in nature, etc.

for the OP: If one doesn't want to deal with zombies, there are ways to build structures that the zombies will not defeat / one can ignore them until morning. One just needs to try harder to find a new way each release.

What I would like is something more like Project Zomboid. There you have true survival, real zombie hordes of mindless shamblers and meaningful base building that is not just build a firing platform and surround it by as many thick walls and spike traps as you can. Something that actually encourages creativity. It seems like you just want another lame wave-shooter FPS snorefest. Maybe try Serious Sam or something?

Of course you will always find exploits, but that is tantamount to cheating. Why not instead have horde nights be something that people actually are rewarded for, something they want to do rather than being forced to endure? Give us tools and methods that allow us to express our creativity to defeat the horde with something more than just mindlessly shooting into a crowd. Give us meaningful rewards that make this worthwhile. Then maybe people will stop trying to exploit the AI naturally and those who choose not to participate can do their own thing.

Hopefully it can be modded, One thing I do hate is going on a server and playing on a server that has magical zombies. I mean realistically if they are dead, they shouldnt be able to run either. But the magical night gives them the power to run faster... errr.. and the day time gives them the power to slow down, and spit stuff, and crawl like a spider and scream likea banshee.. errr.. ok enough with magical zombies :D rely on mods if you dont like vanilla thats all i can say

why do you sound rather upset by the style this player plays? Are you more angry that he doesnt play like you? or are you more angry that you play better than this person or are you just angry that he had an opinion?

7 Days to Die.... not 7 Days to Hide

I'm a tunneler and I'm pretty stoked about the change. Can't wait to see zombies shred everything

Everyone has a playstyle, one thing I cant stand with game is forced will on a player just because. I usually play games on ways I can keep from dying had I been in that in a real life scenario. Being safe on a blood moon.. yeah, Im going to tunnel under skyscrapers :)

I just think people need to calm down and look at things from a non-angry perspective. I, for one, am glad for digging. I like a challenge, and I certainly like the aspect of survival to mean something. As well, I like the aspect of the POI bunkers and building some of my own undergrounds.

Which is cool, until I realize that I am 100% invincible to zombies... they just pool and dance in a circle above me. So in order to be underground, I have to design ways for them to come to me... which.. leads to me knowing exactly how they come at me. I would much rather prefer to build underground because I just like that atmosphere. Staying there for a long time then coming out to the bright-world occasionally after the hordes beat me down to the point where I have to resupply...so I welcome this.

My only concern is the ground looking like random swiss-cheese above me, but we shall see how it plays out.

As far as multiplayer goes, the game was never really designed for PvP; a TON of changes need to happen to make it fluid without making zombies useless. I'd say pvp/raiding would be an entirely different game. Look at Rust, it started with zombies out there and more hardcore survival aspects, but they realized both that and PvP raiding just wasn't fun combined, so the survival and zombies were pretty much cut out (well, zombies entirely).

Also another note to that , server owners are going to have a lot of fun with zombies putttin holes in their lands :D lol ** innocent person walking in game.. falls.. 40 blocks.. what the !! .. ** dead :D hehe

oooo come to think of it! i could exploit this alot! if zombies can dig down .. then I now have a way for my trenches to be dug by zombies :D lolol :D

Can someone share their real life experience with zombies underground?
Very nice passive aggressive comment.

Well done. Well done.

There are plenty of traps in 7DTD, you can use them so you can play less FPS, you know. Personally I kill 95% of zombies with traps during the blood moon. You can choose between tower defense and FPS. And tower defense perfectly fits the spirit of "a survival base-building game".

You do know the game is already Unrealistic enough. When Zombies can punch at buildings and rocks and break it. WHICH would be Physically impossible to do. WHICH really needs to be fixed so they can not break that stuff. But, Not the ability to dig down, which again would be Physically impossible to do. WHY, Just WHY. I mean No need to have them do this stuff at all. It needs to be fixed. Also already bad enough, that Headshots do not kill zombies instantly which should be Fixed. 1 headshot 1 kill.
Humans can't carry tons of concrete either. It also takes quite a lot of time and effort to build buildings and dig holes in real life. We should change it so we can only carry two or three things at a time, and for buildings to take real life days and a whole crew to be completed.

Also, humans poop. Where the heck is my darn poop bar???

Now, jokes aside, I don't understand why so many people want zombies to be the most useless and boring aspect of a game based around zombies. If zombies can't break walls or dig down, zombies are an absolute joke. Build a 4x4 stone wall around you, and you beat the game... Who would want that? Best to just play with zombies spawns off and save RAM usage.

Or just turn on God mod and fly away!

Never get hungry or thirsty and never have any danger.

Happiness!!! [...er..... right? Isn't that... what they want?]

Boring for the rest of us.

Bring on the diggers!

Bring on the Death Penalty!

Hit us with the new AI!

Puking Vultures? Heck yeah!

This is going to be fun!
