PC A17 "Survival" stories....

New random gen world, struggling for food, no towns in sight. Stumble across a sort of mini building site, completely oblivious to the 5 vultures cunningly blending into the grass. Cue girly scream and rapid death!

Admiring new interiors only to fall to zombies playing hide n seek in sodding cupboards!

Find a garage full of equipment when it starts raining zombies hiding in the roof space who proceed to tear me apart for easier transport.

That first half hour was glorious, easily the most entertaining in ages!

Looking forward to the many Darwin awards we shall all be giving ourselves in the coming months! Have at it you gladiators

Found a good concrete POI with multiple floors. Battled my way through it (a pistol I found in a toilet was a nice throwback to earlier alphas) set up my LCB and bedroll on the top floor.

Spent the night, in the morning thought it was a good idea to take a shortcut by jumping out the window to a balcony / lower roof (not too much of a drop so no fall damage)

Did not realize there were 3 vultures waiting for me. In panic, I managed to kill them all with my stone axe. Took some damage and got infected in the process, but I survived.

Went to the snowy forest next to the building I was staying in, fought multiple lumberjack zombies while gathering resources.

I then wanted to level up, so I climbed on a rock and managed to kill a few more lumberjacks with bow + club combo.

I then saw a wild boar approaching the rock I was on, thought I'd use my bow to quickly dispatch of it and get some meat.

The boar in question then dodged my arrows like a boss, climbed on the rock and pummeled me to death before I was able to switch to my melee weapon.

Taking over a POI with low level gear? Doable.

Vultures? Pfft.

Lumberjacks? No problem.

A boar? "Spawn on my bedroll"

Maybe i'm just lucky. But i put 11 hours in A17 already and 0 vulture attacks... Also 0 deaths haha
That's what I love about 7d2d. Once your ego gets big enough the game gives you a reality check....soon tm....hehehe

So there I was, on a fresh new run, just having completed the tutorial for those juicy 5 points. My Trader quest bugs out, and I figure i'm free to go wherever.
First POI I stumble on was a large campsite. Nothing special, literally the same campsite I'd seen dozens of other times in my a17 shenanigans. I step up, piss off the buzzards, smack down some buzzards, and proceed to bang around and make noise to wake up the locals. Surprise surprise, Military zombies.

I dispatch the first with a deft (read: Same as everyone elses) series of low blows and insults, and I hear an explosion. Apparently, one of his buds tripped a landmine somewhere. Mindful of my footing, I dispatch him and immediately begin investigating my surroundings so I don't step on any mines. If anything, I could probably recover some mines and put them to good use.

It wasn't long before I saw the telltale, low res image of a hubcap on the ground. Knowing full well about hubcap mines, I inch up to it. No tooltip, or option to 'pick up'. The thing looked just as trashy as the ground beneath it, so maybe it's just a terrain decal? I right click.

End run.
Another trolland victim lol

I love how the vulture AI is reminiscent of the old killer bee AI. Them bastards sure know how to attack at the most opportunistic times lol.

So had a short A17 session last night (Navesgane). Was in desert heading north along some road when I noticed a new looking POI (mad max like outpost).

With a metal club and compound bow, I roll up my sleeves and decide to test my abilities.

I slowly sneak in through one of openings to the compound and awaken and dispatch a couple of sleepers.

As I start making my way up to the 2nd floor, more sleepers join the fight creating an intense battle of cat and mouse down several narrow walkways.

Once all threats were dealt with, I finally decide to descend into the inner compound. As more sleepers awaken, the fight becomes an intense CQB encounter from one room to the next.

After clearing all threats, I am greeted with a reinforced chest in the final room which contained an ak47 and a sniper rifle.

All in all, I probably had to deal with 20ish zombies (a few extra addons from external roamers) and had a blast.

I cant wait to take on some of the more challenging POIs. :)

Wrote this for a discussion on base build mechanics so forgive the format. More diary than storybook.

My day 7 horde we already knew we wouldnt be ready for so we made a 70 block long tunnel at bedrock and as we heard them dig we would run to the opposite end of the tunnel, they would dig a perfect flat parallel tunnel above. they still eventually breached at 00.30 and we ended up running shorter bits of tunnel and deploying a pair of metal spikes behind us for running barricades to stall them and shoot over.

3 smg's would take each pod of horders out.

Made it through with only 12 blocks of free walking room left.

Tense, gritty/dirty genuinely felt like a battle for survival. But it ran so close I dont see that working for day 14. We hope to have fortified a nearby gas station enough by then with the materials we didnt waste on trying to build a night 7 defence. The clay shortage is real though.... Full 3 days spent gathering stone and clay and we didnt have enough cobble to make a one thick 3 high lipped wall for the back garden of the gas station...

Materials are really hard to gather for building. But then I havent 100% perked the digging yet, I had to buff farming to garner enough food to keep 3 folk alive in one base. Of course the walls and the farmland need the same building material... that may have something to do with my shortage.... but its impossible to dig on an empty stomach now :L

I'll be back in the morning with a more to trend yarn about the magical victorian manor complete with folly. that turned out to be the lair of an evil inventor and the source of the zombie outbreak.

They are like weeping angels.... They only advance if your back is turned, look at them mid dive and they will fly away, you either shoot them down or let them start their attack animation to your back, then they seem to be locked in at ground height till they've tried to hit 5 more times.....

Although you can't play golf with weeping angels... sledged a fair few vultures through the windows of nearby buildings, even cleared completely over a small 1 story home with one.

I feel your pain. "Oooo! Loot!" *death*

I just started a fresh run with a friend. We spawned over 8km apart. Thankfully, our trader quest is halfway between us. We both encounter little hiccups along the way, but the journey goes well enough. I arrive at the trader just before dark, and I have picked up over 600 feathers on the way. There is a small town nearby, multiple forge houses, and lots of big rocks and trees.

Well, my friend said that he was starting a safe place for us for the night, but a fight with a zombie and no bedroll means that he spawns halfway across the map again. I post up on a giant rock in the shadow of a tree, and from there I watch the wolf circling below. When dawn comes (Day 2), he finally sees me, but I dispatch him with a few arrows. Fresh meat will be most welcome.

We set about taking over a forge house (the forge is broken), then we go to raid the other houses around before gathering resources. That's when two dogs show up. Thankfully, we both happened to be in separate houses, so we each peeled off a dog and dispatched them. We continued working. I'm gathering stone atop the giant rock when three more dogs come running at me. One manages to jump up to my level and attack me, so I take off running toward our house. My friend distracts the dog long enough for me to bandage my bleeding and get back to the fight. The other two dogs did not pursue, so we pick them off from a distance. Back to work again.

As the light begins to fade and we're about to turn in for the night, a lone dog shows up. Apparently, the people in these houses forgot to spay and neuter their pets. We kill him on our way inside. It's been a long day.

Edit: I also found two potato farms on the initial trek to the meeting point. We have 100 potatoes stashed and ready for making a farm when we find a hoe.

Took on a wandering horde.

Got infected.

Chugged 8 herbal antibiotics.

Discovered they were broken in the xml.

Survived that one with some xml skills.

So I started a new run recently, it was going pretty well, by Day 2 I had looted a military base and gotten some guns. After ages of wandering (still on day 2) I finally found I house I was going to set up a temporary base in. I cleared it, replaced the doors, and then got to work. Once night hit I decided I was just going to wait out the 6 minutes as opposed to doing anything. I didn’t expect anything to happen BUT THEN I heard it, a boat load of zombies running outside of my base. I instantly knew a wandering horde was coming my way. Not interested in dying to 20 zombies I went downstairs and hid in a 1 x 2 bathroom that always spawns in the POI I was in. I thought I was safe (only 2 on the stealth bar), but then I realized my fatal flaw, the room had a door. At this point the horde had already broken through my crappy wooden door leading into the house, so I knew what was coming. They started hitting the door to the room I was in and I knew I was screwed (again it was 1 x 2 and I was stuck) with nowhere I hopped on the toilet, pulled out my gun, and waited. Sure enough it only took them 5 seconds to break through that door, and when they did 10 zombies flooded into that room. Miraculously I actually survived that encounter. Determined not to get a death penalty on day 2, I fired into the mob of zombies using my AK, of course they hit back (I went from 100 health to 19 in 10 seconds). Eventually I ran out of ammo and just started blindly swinging with my wooden club, but I still did it. After my triumphant victory I quickly put hay bales where the door to my room was and held my breath until morning.

Yep, that happened.

Ironically after all of that effort to not die I would be killed the next day by 5 vultures who attack me simultaneously. (That’s not even what really killed me, I killed all of said vultures but I was bleeding [i had a bandage originally but I accidentally used it because I forgot they changed the button you pressed to use it] so I just bled out).

Dude. Only try doing that with a wrench equipped.

My last game I decided to play Navezgane and tables were turned on Trolland. I got trolled hard by the game by having my trader situated in the wasteland biome. I fought off three vultures crossing the border but left that conflict bloody and weak. Just ahead down a path was the front door of the trader and so I ran for it. A dog jumped onto the path and started after me but I had enough stamina so I just ran, opened the big double doors, and turned to close them and the dog squeezed through before they shut.

...

I decided to call that game dead is dead because I'm hardcore and not because I just rage quit. Definitely not because I just rage quit.

But when I stopped to fight I saw him hesitate at the doorway before running back into the house.
One of faatal's changes to zombie AI was a random chance the zombie will pick a new nearby target. They no longer 100% keep going after the last target to damage them or that they were focused on.

Haha, I have the same bad luck with my Nav playthrough. Killed by vulture in front of trader in wasteland biome. This my 1st reminder of the importance of bandages (bleeding). :p

I noticed that! It's a cool change and felt more organic than before...

Ooo nice, altho it was a good strategy to kite zombies, it made it too asy to kill the them. Glad there is a random element in there now.

Ok someone has to pay! First blood moon not prepared due to investigating new stuff. So the plan is to go top floor of a 3 storey building, having demoed stairs and some walkways so they cant get at mah butt, sorted!

Blood moon starts and 30 seconds later a horde comes strolling over the ROOF! luckily im standing on a beam, so i curtail a few with some hefty whacks and as soon as i can i destroy 2 sections of beam so they cant reach me.

They only climb back up and start demolishing the roof above me and dropping onto the beam behind me! Again with the hits and knocking out bits of beam. Now im standing on a small piece of beam, back to a window but at least they cant get me! They approach from the first spot and LAUNCH themselves straight at my face! not jump LAUNCH!

Cue a godawful scream, a fall from my chair and my wife asking why I am screaming at 6 in the morning and rolling round on the floor! Yep I am in the doghouse because of one of YOU! That was the single most heartstopping moment in this game and i shall never ever forget it. Whoever is responsible, thank you I will hate you forever!!

Early Game: Don't think twice about running away from anything that has a good chance to damage you. It cost food and food is golden.

Quest (death trap) POI's... nuff said.

Never let vultures follow you, run and run some more until they are out of sight.

Team up with at least one person.

Playing Dead-is-Dead means your are courageous or crazy... I'm courageous, right?

I was sneak-looting a tool shop today when a bug caused a sleeping zombie to instantly stand up, growl, and swing at me. Thankfully I dodged, but the zombie hit something metal... which caught the attention of a nearby bear.

Crap! I climbed near by shelves and crouched, waiting to see what happened. The bear entered the shop through my entry point and sat there growling. That noise woke the rest of the sleeper zombies, who came out and exited the shop past the bear (and me, crouched and tense a few inches above their heads). The bear started attacking the undead. The whole lot of them stepped outside and started tearing strips off each other.

I used the opportunity to break a way out and run like hell.

I'll go back in a day or two...

welp started a new save

spawned 120 blocks into the air

Decided to press H to prevent the splat again! :D
