PC A17 Mining

Nimetious

New member
Hello there!

Been playing for a few hours (A17) now, and noticed there are no veins... Atleast I can't find one..

Explored a few caves, etc - and still can't find even iron vein. There are none at ground level like in A16.

Maybe I'm blind,

but I would really use some help on how to mine, because it's a struggle right now!

They seem to under boulders now, not under gravel patches. We've found a vein of iron. It looks completely different now. They look sort of like big cobblestones, instead of brown shiny patches.

I'm also still looking for more iron sources. Took your suggestion, Fey, but i didn't seem to find one. Is it the really large rocks, or the smaller ones that also tend to give more ore? And how deep did you have to go? I tried a couple of each, but didn't seem to find anything. :(

We are having the same problem. Started a mine in a random place, have been digging forever, and have not hit anything! Very frustrating considering all the materials we need and how slow and stamina draining everything is.

The big boulders or the little ones? We dug a bit under until we hit rock but nothing. Is it pretty far down?

while digging underground, look for sand and dig it out, ore veins is next to it. I would miss it as well since iron/lead is not very visible compared to normal rock, at least with mining helmet light.

After a few hours of struggle finally managed to find Iron!

That's how it looks like for me - maybe it will help you out as well!

Was found in a cave.

Ore will still generally be surrounded by gravel, and the in-game mining tip does mention that boulders will point the way to veins closer to the surface.

I do think though that the ore could still be a wee bit easier to find (though, since I tear apart POI's, at least for iron, I've never once had to go mining for it).

In my limited experience the veins also seem to be a lot less concentrated. I was digging at bedrock in the desert and ran into shale and iron. The shale deposits were more spread out than in A16. I found one small bit of iron.

The distribution has not changed. The gravel paths have not changed.

The only change is an additional visual clue from boulders.

I found this in Navezgane (964N/1158W elev:+53, near N/W trader)

؟diamonds? When i chops it does not give me anything... ؟maybe i need steel pickaxe?

There are iron vein too.

i went underground and found lead and coal veins. but mining become much more dangerous, since sand has close to none SI in current version. witch makes mines collapse very easy, also harder to get sand, because after collapsing, you do not find sand particles lieing around.

I found patches that looked like that except they were lead instead of iron

But with A17 changes - isn't mining going to be a thing of the past - especially for single players? I mean you got zed's that dig... Would be way too dangerous if you don't have auto turrets of some or some type of trap system above you...

I'm curious about those collapses.

I haven't had one yet and I'd like to avoid one.

How far apart are your support columns?

I don't know if its a bug or my computer, but all ore looks the same. I can't tell the difference between nitrate, iron, lead or coal, except by the different sounds they make when being mined.

I also don't really mind the rock indicator, but the rocks all look the same to.
