A17 fully Steam dependend?

So I decided to try out A17 and did what I always do when modding a game: I clone the Vanilla directory, rename it and start tweaking the .xml files.

I mean I wanted, but before I get to the menu there is a pop up telling me that Steam isn't running. there is a "play offline" button but i'ts greyed out.

Tried one of my old 16.4 clone directories and no problem working offline.

Did I overlook something or can A17 actually only be started with Steam running?

I recommend you just start with modlets and xml. Modlets are xml files with xpath querying to make mods easier to apply A with other mods and B easy to reapply after a version update from steam.

If you are running steam in offline mode it should work.

I wish it ran in MP without steam. Do I ever....
