[A16] Merry ComSens - A 7 Days to Die Winter Project Mod

There's very little room for error in this mod :) Glad you are enjoying it.
"It is possible to commit no errors and still lose. That is not a weakness... that is life."
I like to play Starvation for the challenge, and love this mod for the same reason... though the challenge is different (which is why I like 'em both at the same time). Still getting my feet under me on this one... have to change SOOOO much of my play-style.

"SposeWinter" seed, playthrough #5 is starting well. Found a nice town and made a home. Water is sorted out (cooking pot, lots of glass jars and cans) just not enough food. Need to find some clay, and if so, might have a chance to get to day 7.

How is "bedrock" calculated? In world #4, I was digging down and reached bedrock at -10 or so. If I remember correctly, I was wandering about in another area and was below that level. Is "bedrock" a dynamic figure, based on something in the area?

Bed rock is... flexible. We've reduced the amount of layers in the world, in an effort to curb some of the overhead with the snowFill. I wouldn't rely on it for any particular or consistent depth :) I've seen some caves with bedrock scattered through it.

I reduced my View Distance to "8" and LOD Distance to "50%", and this improved the FPS drop in cities. It's still there, but playable.

Okay, that seems to explain what I was seeing with the bedrock. Thanks for the explanation.

A quick question about clay "nodes/veins". Have they been affected too? I found a bit of clay outside the bottom floor of a POI... but the size of the vein was VERY small. In a normal world, it is usually at least 5x5 and at least 3 to 5 blocks deep. What I found was barely 2x2 and 2 blocks deep (estimate... with iron shovel and lvl 2 miner 69er, I got just 300 clay total). In 700+ hours of play, I don't ever remember getting a clay vein so small... though, to be honest, I'd likely not remember in a "normal" world because clay was easy to see and plentiful to find. Here... well, it'll be the death of me cause I can't find enough to build a legit defense :(

Thats normal, some of the clay might have been replaced by the POI insert.
Thanks, makes sense. By the way, I've noticed the POIs seem to be floating above the dirt ground directly below. I'm a bit of a digger/mole, and the homes I dig through the floor all seem to have a full level of empty block between the bottom layer of the POI and ground below it. FirSt time I saw that, I tried to fill with snowblocks but after the third or fourth time, I figured this might not be an issue with structural integrity. Though, I might test this by digging out the snow along the edges to see if that collapses everything.

Game just locks up at the inializing screen, several red exceptions last one being "Block with name Snowfill not found"? Placed 7dtd in new folder then copy and paste folders from zip into the directory let it overwrite. Is there something I should look for I may have missed.

Thanks guys

Sounds like an issue with your installation. Can you post your log files to the game?

Happy new year all, again thanks for this mod. Been a load of fun.

I had one of those moments that keeps me loving this game. Day 10 (or was it 11?), running by foot to the trader to see what he has new. It is a white out snow storm, hard to see. I'm looking left and right as I run, to keep myself away from the wolves that spawn in over nearly every dune. I'm almost there and spot a crawling lumberjack to my left. All of a sudden, straight in front of me, out of the horizon, two bears and a pack of dogs materialize. HOLY BALLS... all I have is a poor shotgun... poop my pants... get a grip, and run straight right. Pulse...dangerously high. Keep running.

Luckily, they run right past. Of course, I almost run right into a snowman... but don't catch his agro.

Man, it is moments like that which make this game great. Thanks!

Would you guys consider making a non-christmas themed version of the mod? I like the mod and the nuclear winter theme and would like to keep streaming it, but with the christmas stuff it's very time sensitive.

Yeah a great idea! I'd like to continue playing/streaming it long after xmas is over...

Thank you for the log file. Did you Copy the 7DaysToDie_Managed folder into it as well?
Yes I did, even deleted all the folders. Created a new base/root folder and pasted original 7dtd into that. Then pasted each of the mod folders one at a time letting them overwrite. Finally copied the managed folder. Where does the Nightmare folder go?

Thanks, really thanks for your help.

You should be able to download the entire repo from here: https://github.com/SphereII/WinterProject/archive/master.zip and just extract over your 7 Days To Die folder structure. You shouldn't have to copy the files or folders one at a time.
