PC A thought from a mac user to the admins

So, for the first time today I decided to install the game on my MacBook. I usually take it to work with me as I work night time security which comes with a lot of down time perks.

However, after installing I couldn't run the launcher or game as I wasn't running the latest version of OSX. Now I wouldn't mind if I was still running say Mavericks or Yosemite. But I am running high sierra and I don't particularly want to update to Mojave as I tried it not so long ago and it caused all kinds of issues along with reduced battery life. High sierra works fine and is still a widely used version of the OS as it predates Mojave by a single version. So why is it not supported?. Most other game developers who support mac also support multiple versions of OSX let alone the previous version. There are quite a few people out there who don't want to update to Mojave for the same reasons as myself and more. Can you please enable support for High Sierra for mac users. You also have to understand that not all mac users are using the spanky new 2019 mac. Some us have a mac that is a few years old that whilst it will run 7D2D...it doesn't gel with Mojave as an operating system.

That has nothing to do with my issue I'm afraid. That's FOR mac users on Mojave mine is about mac users NOT on Mojave. Thanks for responding though

Yeah, I was kinda hoping the issue was similar. I'm not aware of any compatibility issues with High Sierra and Unity, so not sure why there is a limitation.

I asked Alloc (one of the devs) and he said:

hard to test different versions, but from unitys side 10.12 and higher should work (i.e. sierra, high sierra, mojave)Not sure about eac and steam as the major external dependencies but I doubt there would be any issues.
So it sounds like your best course of action is to report it as a bug and include your output log rather than just assuming TFP are intentionally not supporting the previous version of MAC OS.

As far as they know, High Sierra is still supported.

Hi. I play the game on a 2011 iMac running High Sierra. I’ve never had issues launching the game. I have issues within the game that seem to be unique to this OS, but the game launches fine for me. As far as I know, the game’s system requirements have not changed.

Here ya go, only runs on 10.14 aka Mojave

So, just to confirm, you can run 17.3 from Steam on macOS 10.13 / High Sierra without any issues?

Could be the launcher is linked against a library version now that's only included with 10.14, but if it runs fine for CC I wonder why it would be different for you.

You could try opening the game folder and directly launch the game from there, the launcher isn't strictly necessary (just helpful for stuff like logs and changing some options).

I think I figured it out, and I have a workaround!

In my testing, A17.1 was the last version with a launcher that worked in macOS 10.13 High Sierra. However, the launcher doesn't always download when you switch to a different version of the game. So try this:

  • In the Finder, locate and delete 7dLauncher.app.
  • In Steam, in the game's betas tab, downgrade to A17.1.
  • After A17.1 downloads, verify your game files in Steam.
  • Now upgrade back to A17.3 or whatever version you actually want to play.

You'll now have the older, working launcher to use with the newer version of the game.

My conclusion is the problem started in A17.2, but wasn't noticed because Steam wasn't actually downloading the new, non-working launcher unless you happened to verify files.

17.4 will get a launcher update that should be working fine again on 10.12 and above. Actually even below that but Unity only supports 10.12 and higher anyway :smile-new:

I (honestly) read the Subject as:

I'm sorta' disappointed now.

Feels bad man.
