PC A question about falling damage and haybales.

About how many blocks is it safe to fall before you'll take damage between haybales? I know in a16 you could go from the sky to bedrock and take 0 damage if you landed on one but this changed in a17. My next game I play I plan to make a underground base for my storage and forges etc, and a small bunker on the surface for horde nights.

I read I need to be at least 30 blocks down for zombies to not to be able to hear any noise I make underground, So I plan to go 32 or 35 down just to be sure. I'll have to use ladders to get out since hatchevators no longer work, but getting into the base I was going to use a staggered drop with haybales. Question is, as I said how many blocks apart can I make the haybales with no perks or the book that lets you fall 15 blocks without fall damage when carrying 5k+ dukes.

I decided to test it myself, results were: with no perks or mods etc, you can fall 23 blocks onto haybales without taking damage, at 24 blocks you'll take 1-3 hp damage or so. So 23 is the limit.

The changes to haybales from A16 to A17 was.. quite a shocking surprise when I dug a shaft down to bedrock, placed haybales and tried it out. Ouch!

Or, since you already will have a ladder, simply jump off it and jump again to catch it before you reach the bottom.
