PC A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse!

I know some will protest what I'm about to say but setting airdrops to daily until you get a beaker or two (airdrops are a good source) then cancel airdrops.
You could roleplay that several ways.
The Airdrops are pretty pointless as far as medical items are concerned right now. They mostly consist of canned food and some weapons. The safest way to get a beaker is to set the loot respawn to 5 days. Especially if you play on the Navezgane map, this procedure is recommended.

Here is the xml:

<lootgroup name="airdropMedicine">

<item name="drugPainkillers" count="1,3"/>

<item name="medicalFirstAidKit" count="1,2"/>

<item name="drugAntibiotics" count="1,2"/>

<item name="toolBeaker" prob="0.4"/>

</lootgroup>

The chances are small but it can happen.

Ok, so I may have just trolled people into thinking this is about horses. It's not. I mean it could be, but it's not just now. No, the topic of discussion is "things that we need". Let me explain...
I am on day 46 ish and have yet to find a beaker, not one. As you can probably tell that by 46 I have explored quite a lot of the map. I've not looted everything but anything close by (within a 5km radius of my base) that looks even remotely like offering up a beaker has been searched thoroughly. My map is random gen and at this point I've only found 1 trader (rather nicely 11km from my initial spawn point, thanks RWG!) who has never had one in stock. In a late 80's pop reference that no-one will get," I've been around the world and I.. I.. I... still can't find my beaker"

My pile of coal and nitrate grows ever bigger and I'm just too tight to waste it on gunpowder when I know with a chem station I'll be able to make double!

As you can't craft beakers, and I can't buy beakers and I can't find beakers... what's a boy to do? A beaker, a beaker, my kingdom for a beaker! (or two for that matter)

What things have you struggled to find in your game?

-- btw, if anyone is unsure about the title of the thread it relates to Shakespeare's "Richard III".

I don't know, and I don't know why... But Lisa Stansfield says what's up!

The disadvantage is that these workstations are not accessible at night.
That's hardly a big deal is it though? Depending on the length of night you have.

Also, you can't make everything in the stations.
That is true, although having forged iron at day 1 is a considerable perk.

Without a working workbench you had to go everywhere on foot until you could build the workbench and at that time you could build the minibike so you could skip the bicycle right away.
Overall I think the introduction of more vehicles is a good thing; I'd like to see a boat added and make the gyrocopter feed into the "end game scenario". It does need some tweaking, imo, and personally I would like to see any vehicle except the bike needing a workbench. That's more for another discussion though. As it is, the workbench is irrelevant in regards to discussing vehicles.

Since all the POIs are now stuffed with pallets of concrete mix and cobbleston, you don't even need a working cement mixer to build a concrete base.
That's true. If anything that simply adds weight to the argument that mixers shouldn't be part of the trader.

In summary I'm not countering your points, per se, and I actually agree pretty much broadly with your points as all the issues you have raised are valid. However, and you knew there would be a "but..." in here somewhere.. ;) , it doesn't negate the argument that in comparison to having all the facilities available to you on day 1 compared to a game that doesn't it is, to me at least, far too large a disparity.

I have gotten one or two at a time as rewards for quests.

Other then that, I will hit any pop-n-pills I find until I have my set.

I don't recall ever buying any from the trader.

Any place that has the pill shelf available to loot has a chance of having them. We did the Shotgun messiah headquarters today and ended up with two beakers, it has a small medical room.

I seem to remember getting on from a zombie loot bag during one of the horde nights.

They are hard to find unless you purposely look for them and target your looting towards them.

Well would you believe it. My RWG spawned me 11km from my trader, which meant a lot of my early game was without one. I've traversed up and down the map and, as luck would have it, managed to miss a cluster of 4 (yes 4!) traders all within a 400m area. One of those traders had... wait for it... wait for it... a working chem station (yay!)

It's a 2km drive from my current base but at least it's working!

You might think one of those traders would sell a beaker? Nah, no chance, and going up to tier 3 in quests has still not produced the second beaker I need for my own chem station (I got one from a tier 1 quest after suggestions I should try that) but it's certainly a step forward.

Hmmm, and that traders?

Traders have to solve similar problems. As Madmole said - they have provided these tasks for traders to eliminate such cases.
