At the moment (and for many years actually) audio output in 7 Days to Die is just flat stereo. So, if you have multichannel speakers system then you almost have no benefit from it because all speakers are silent except front left and front right. If you use virtualization (or not use) for headphones then you will not hear the difference between front and rear audio - that's why you do not have a cue if a zombie in front or behind of you when you don't see it. That's the issues of flat stereo audio output.
So I have made some investigations and found out that you can enable 5.1/7.1 audio output for 7 Days to Die. The setting for Audio Manager speakers output mode is in the data.unity3d asset. It can be edited and saved using UABEA tool. My question is "is it possible to make some Harmony patch to change this setting or maybe make some new asset and replace vanilla one instead?".
I have also made some gameplay tests with 5.1/7.1 audio output enabled
When you play with 3rd person camera it's all almost good and you have a very clear cue when a zombie behind of you! There is some issue of slightly excessive bass in audio then you are harvesting wood or meat. All UI sound effects are good.
But the 1st person camera audio do need some work. Too much bass when you are harvesting resources. Player's own footsteps sounds like its sound sources are placed in the wrong positions (behind or in the sides of player) and the same issue with the player screams during battle with zombies. The good things are the same as for the 3rd person camera - all UI sound effects, you have a very clear cue from where zombies are coming to you
So if someone know how to make such mod for 7 Days to Die audio, it will be very much appreciated
