3.0 Experimental (b259) - Tier Progression Sandbox Setting Appears Out of Sync with Trader Quest Progression

Version
3.0
Platform
Windows

Version

7 Days to Die 3.0 Experimental (b259)

Game Type

Dedicated Server

Sandbox Settings

  • Tier Progression: 5
  • Daily Quest Limit: 10
  • Other sandbox settings modified (loot abundance, XP, etc.), but none should affect trader progression.

Description

The Tier Progression sandbox setting appears to affect Opening Trade Routes / biome progression, but does not appear to affect Trader Job Tier progression, causing the two systems to become out of sync.

Expected Behavior

With Tier Progression = 5, progression should require half the normal number of quests.
Since trader progression is point-based:
  • Tier 1 Quest = 1 point
  • Tier 2 Quest = 2 points
  • Tier 3 Quest = 3 points
  • Tier 4 Quest = 4 points
  • Tier 5 Quest = 5 points
The expected cumulative point requirements would be:
UnlockExpected Total Points
Tier 25
Tier 315
Tier 430
Tier 550
Tier 675
This represents completing 5 quests of each tier.

Actual Behavior

After completing 5 Tier 1 quests:
  • Opening Trade Routes unlocked.
  • I was directed to Trader Jen.
  • Neither Trader Rekt nor Trader Jen offered Tier 2 jobs.
I had to complete 5 additional Tier 1 quests (10 total Tier Points) before Tier 2 jobs became available.
The same behavior appears to repeat for Tier 3.
Current progression:
  • Quest Log showed Tier III (27/30) while the sandbox setting was still 5.
  • Traders only offered Tier 2 jobs.
I then changed the sandbox setting back to 10, restarted the server, advanced to the next in-game day, and checked multiple traders.
After doing so:
  • The Quest Log changed to Tier II (27/30).
  • Traders still only offered Tier 2 jobs.

Testing Performed

  • Changed Tier Progression from 5 back to 10.
  • Restarted the dedicated server.
  • Advanced time from Day 22 to Day 23 using the server console.
  • Checked multiple traders.
  • Trader jobs remained Tier 2.

Possible Cause

My theory is that two different progression systems are being used.
The Tier Progression sandbox setting appears to count completed quests, which unlocks Opening Trade Routes and biome progression.
However, Trader Job Tier progression appears to continue using Tier Points, still requiring the default cumulative point totals.
If true, the systems become unsynchronized.
For example:
  • Opening Trade Routes unlock after 5 completed quests.
  • Trader Tier 2 jobs still require 10 Tier Points.
  • Trader Tier 3 jobs still require 30 Tier Points.
  • Trader Tier 4 jobs still require 60 Tier Points.
  • Trader Tier 5 jobs still require 100 Tier Points.

This causes players to unlock new traders and trade routes before those traders can actually offer the next quest tier.

Reproduction Steps

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a new 3.0 Experimental world.
  2. Set Tier Progression = 5.
  3. Complete 5 Tier 1 quests.
  4. Complete the Opening Trade Routes quest.
  5. Visit the new trader.
  6. Observe that only Tier 1 jobs remain available.
  7. Complete 5 additional Tier 1 quests.
  8. Observe that Tier 2 jobs unlock at the default 10 Tier Points instead of after 5 quests.
  9. The same behavior appears to repeat between Tier 2 and Tier 3 progression.
