2.5Exp Storms

While there have been improvements to storms in this new release, they continue to remain time out simulators.

I'll cover the good parts to the new storms first.
The new distant storm rendering is excellent, no more flying blind into a storm is a fantastic quality of life change.
The increase to how long you can be outside, and the reduced damage taken from storms allows much more freedom during them as well. If you are in the middle of/starting to clear a poi, you can comfortably continue to clear it even if it has large outdoor portions, provided you pay a little attention to the debuff timer.

However if you have just finished a poi there is little you can do except wait it out. Traveling to a mining/quest location, traders or returning to base can be near impossible. While the 4x4 is immune to the storms winds, and the gyro can largely ignore the winds once airborne, the timer continues to tick down while inside both vehicles. Attempting to travel anywhere with the other vehicles is a largely pointless and frustrating endeavor.

For endgame purpose's perhaps some sort of storm proofing for the gyro and 4x4 are needed so you can still travel? Allowing the player to sit safely in their endgame vehicles would at least allow late game players to well, play the game lol.

For reference i just had a storm start as i was finishing a tier 3 quest and realized returning to the trader on my motorcycle was impossible.

Could you go next door and check that place out?

I'd think player storm damage would only be an issue if the player is in pristine wilderness and had to build shelter from the storm. Here's the thing about waiting.... That's a choice you're making. You may have to do something you hadn't planned on doing, but that's called emergent gameplay. I'd take that any day over things I'm seeing in other games, e.g. having to dig a hole in a rock and sit there until the storm passes.

In this case i had looted most of the town already, however that is normally a valid option. Early game it would be worth it to run to the next building as the resources are still useful. However mid to late game the resources you get from random clears are largely irrelevant, my only goal is to clear quests to rank up and get access to better quests mid game, and slaughter infested zombies late game. Both of which can easily involve traveling several kilometers. So while it is an option to just randomly loot nearby for 20 mins, its less enticing than just pressing alt tab and getting a drink.

The changes TFP have made do make dealing with storms much better now, there still exists a problem when large amounts of traveling are the only thing you have to do late game. For me it just happens to be at the tail end of the tier 3 quest line.

I see. I get why they did it, but think it's unfortunate that workbenches, for example, are all "destroyed" in the game world and can't be used. On such occasions as you describe, you could at least find a workbench; craft something or fix your weapons and armor and what not; etc. and so forth just to keep your hands busy. Provided the storm doesn't last too long, I wouldn't even mind sitting it out if need be myself. I'm waiting for stable. How often and long are you having to just sit it out late game?

I'm only in midgame atm, keep dying and losing my world. I have had to afk i think all but one storm so far. This recent one happened to remind me about my 2.4 world where at level 250 and 80 hours of play time i was still having to afk in my base each storm lol. Decided to check if traveling would be viable now and spawned in a 4x4 to check but sadly the debuff still applies in the truck. If a storm happens to strike during a quest the improvements are a great step forwards, if it happens at any other time there is still room for improvement.

Edit: on an unrelated note, i am having to fly from the ■■■■ed desert, 5k's back to the forest biome to pick cotton for the snow gear and my character is freezing at world height while i can do nothing about it. I swear the cold debuff is making the gyrocoptor lag backwards every few seconds because it FEELS like the debuff is making my gyro fly slower. Why?

I think it's a global speed debuff when cold or hot, so maybe that's why it seems slower.

If it's feasible, shelter might be applied to a vehicle(s) that makes sense, e.g. the 4x4. TFP might want to consider that. I'd think you'd be pretty well protected in one of those. A Pimp Dream post to that effect couldn't hurt.

It might help to build a bare bones base of operations anywhere you're active to retreat to that contains excess materials you didn't have room for or just didn't want to return to your main base, etc. Maybe a workbench or two. At least, then, you'd have something to do.
