2.5

sorry to be a pain but are -all- foods weighted to attract zombies or will it follow the game's logic and only meat-based ones will attract the dead? a bear or coyote i can imagine wanting stuff like pie and tea since both are scavangers and take to omnivory when hungry enough but a zombie only ever seemed attracted to living/recently dead beings so i wouldnt think it would get excitable for vegetarian or vegan consumables

From the way it's written, I'd assume meat-based meals will have way higher smell (if veggie meals have one at all).

"This game is all about restarts. Not maintaining a single character or save."

I suppose that about sums this all up. This game is going to be continually about playing for a couple weeks then restarting. Whereas, I'd prefer it to be more RPG-like with a long game plan and long game goals. Oh well, I'll play something else for a while to scratch that itch. I really appreciate the community and passion about this game though. Thanks everyone.

I've uninstalled the game for now. I'll check back-in in a couple years.

thanks everyone.

Bye now

  • Improved Water Survival with Empty Jars (Who cares?)
  • Vehicle storage improvements and mods (Kinda nice)
  • The new Lore Friendly Rancher Zombie (Replaces the Plague Spitter) (Who cares?)
  • The new Lore Friendly Chuck Zombie (Replaces the Frost Claw) (Who cares?)
  • A brand a new Smell System with some great surprises (Who cares?)
  • Distant storm rendering (Who cares?)
  • Updated Biome Hazards, Storms, Temperature & Protective Clothing (Who cares?)
  • A new Apiary Station to produce Honey (Who cares?)
  • New Honey inspired recipes (Who cares?)
  • Third Person Camera support (Who cares?)
  • Turret Ammo Improvements (Who cares?)
  • Quest Improvements (Who cares?)
  • A new character window rendering (Who cares?)
  • New Free Cosmetic Skins (Who cares?)
  • New Trader Jen Model (Who cares?)

So again. No new late game goals or content. No new end game. No bandits. No radiation zone. No new levels or skills. Sigh...

I mean, I hate to be negative, but I really really like this game, and it just isn't evolving into what I want it to be I guess. Maybe I'm in the minority.

Honestly, out of all the things people want this game to evolve into, are any of the above listed changes even in your top 100 wish list items?

Yes. The following changes I am definitely excited for:
  • Vehicle storage mods
  • Smell system (honestly, the idea of zombies going absolutely ape ■■■■ when they smell you over and above how they react to seeing you? Incredible!)
  • Distant storm rendering (huge quality of life fix for when you've got your gyrocopter)
  • Storm update so that you are encouraged to get out there and be in it??? HELL YEAH
  • Turret ammo improvements

You should reserve judgement until you play with all these new features combined. There is much more thought and emergent gameplay in this build than in years. The community asked for most all of these features too so blame your fellow players if you don't care.

Honestly it's a ton of fun. I highly recommend a new start but we're supporting old saves. It's not apparent on the surface reading the release notes the impact these features have. For example on day one I had set up a small camp near some water 1/8th mile away or so. I made it home just after dark and realized I needed water badly and had found 2-3 jars that day. So I went out to fill the jars at night and zombies had spawned near the water. I snuck over and filled my jars but the zombies sensed me and I ran back to my base and barely defended my weak fort from them.

So you need to think about where you are building your base, how far a water supply is, and remember to fill them during daylight hours or risk a night time feral taking you out.

That's not even getting into smells which are a total game changer. Even late game if you just slam some food in the wasteland, it can attract a LOT of attention. I had just cleared a T6 poi and was beat up and wounded and infected, so I ate some honey brisket, a very powerful late game food that uses a lot of meat and honey to craft (I was tired of having 5 stacks of raw meat late game so this new recipe helps clear out your meat reserves!) and it started to cure my infection but the smell attracted a lot of zeds so it was a scary situation with the crits I had and lower health with zombie bears, wights and dire wolves, etc it was like a mini horde almost.

So eat indoors or wait until you are on the road to eat unless you're looking for some action.

Storms are no longer time out simulator. The better your clothing the longer leash you have to run around in a storm and not take damage. So it's risk assessment instead of a guaranteed time out for most players.

With biome hazards being airborne, storms, weather, and food creating smells the new meta is always being aware of your surroundings so you can take some cover from all the dangers out there, but beware of what's inside when you duck into a building. It's quite a different beast we have cooked up, so I wouldn't judge it too harshly until you get into it. Best build I've played in ages.
Hey Madmole, appreciate the insight and your story of your playthrough :) sounds fun and i'm looking forward to play myself and take a look at all those changes and how they play out for me.
could you spoil me one thing?
how common are the jars in the loot? did you play normal loot abundance and found 3 in a day? that would sound fair to me (just would like to avoid having 10-15 jars day one and would adjust loot settings accordingly if that would be the case ;))
