PC 2.0 timetable, mean streamers, and console to pc converts

Is that really the case?  I mean, server side is just changes to XML.  That should be a small download.  And localization is just text, which is extremely fast to download and requires very few resources unless you're talking about a huge text file (opening a 10MB text file in Notepad would take a while, but that's more an issue with Notepad than the fact that it's 10MB of text).  I suppose if you had 50 XML mods, it could potentially use enough extra resources to be a problem, but it would be easy enough to set some kind of limit on mod size or number of mods that are allowed to load when connecting to a server from a console.  Just throw an error message - "Server has too many mods to connect to" or whatever - and then call it good.  That lets console use servers with lower numbers of server side mods and there really shouldn't be a problem with that.  If XBox S is maxing out all its resources as it is, then that's real problem and needs to be addressed regardless of the possibility of mod use.

Minimum hardware requirements.

  • CPU with 4 cores at 2.8GHz. TFP is super vague on this, but the Series-X is AMD Zen 2 8-core CPU. Kind of similar to the 5600X. GPU performance is similar to a 6700XT. That technically falls in the recommended specs. However the 16GB VRAM is shared between CPU and GPU operations, and this is a laptop-equivalent platform. Laptops typically perform 20-30% lower than the desktop chips because of the motherboard design limitations, and cooling limitations. Then you have the Series-S which quite literally has one third the processing power of the Series-X.
  • Min spec is 4GB VRAM and 8GB RAM, Recommended is 12-16GB RAM and 6+GB VRAM. As stated previously, the Series X has 16 GB of RAM, but it is shared. The game likes to use about 7.5GB VRAM, so it is pretty much split down the middle.   The Series-S on the other hand has 10GB RAM, and only 8GB is available to the game.

I'm sure most of you can do the math here, and you should now be able to see what a piece of crap the Series-S is. Why MS decided to sell this for only a marginally smaller value than the X is just crazy. Everyone buying a Series-S gets shafted.  I suppose at least they were up front in saying the specs were literally 1/3 the power of the Series-X, and only reducing the price by 1/3rd instead of 2/3rds to match the hardware. And to make sure there are actually games developed for the Series-S, MS forces developers to support it. Otherwise you would see almost no one making games to play on the Series-S.

This is why TFP and the company they hired for developing the console port have had to quite literally "move worlds" in terms of optimization to make it playable on the console. Why the console port didn't even have RWG when it first released, and why it sill has some limitations in comparison to the PC version of the game.

Adding mods adds processing and RAM usage. Small xml edits don't seem like a lot, but they add up quick. When your are starting below the performance line already, you don't have the overhead to add anything.

On one hand, it's refreshing to see a guy who is honest about his opinions, and has been consistent with them for such a long while. On the other... he's still a negative nancy, to say the very least. Reminds me of the subreddit where people are still complaining about jars to this very day...

"Honest about his opinions" which are ALWAYS negative.

I sometimes wonder if that's where his popularity comes from. Or maybe just the English accent. I've only seem him when he joins others games, and yeah, always talking crap about tfp.

Never said they weren't.

He's catering towards the very loud minority (but still large enough of a demographic to fund a successful and growing channel, it seems) that equally hate TFP and have zero understanding of game development.

Is it a little unfortunate that TFP optimistically project the next update to occur months and months before its release? Debatable. But to anyone who has been playing the game for years, we've been through this rodeo consistently. If you're expecting a hypothetical October release announcement to have to game drop that same month, or even close, you're almost certainly the cause of your own disappointment. And this isn't me jabbing at TFP or the development - it just is what it is. If the update takes longer than expected, just play a new game, 7D2D or otherwise, for the time being.

Oh look, that guy that hates TFP but based his whole YT channel around their game and is now "stuck" playing a game he hates. Poor guy. Anybody silly enough to do that isn't worth listening to, in my opinion.

@bdubyah he didnt mention hating the game, he hates the team.

Except talking about Youtubers, several weeks passed from the last update reschedule. Any big news?

He hates TFP, but love the game they make... That makes so much sense!!! 😁

Is constructive criticism needed for any game? Sure. Is venting allowed? Sure. Are people allowed to have their opinions on what system they like better? Sure. But there's a difference between all of this and just moaning 24/7, 365, which gets tiring for the reader and hopefully the OP. If you complain about a game almost every day for years, can write a massive shopping list with no effort on what you don't like about the game, and can't think of a reason why you still play it to this day... are you sure you still like the game? 😛

(not disagreeing with you, in fact quite the opposite)

To some people I've seen, they act like they got scammed for 10 dollars from Amazon... many years ago. And they still complain every single day about it. That's not remotely normal or healthy. lol

Chill, it makes perfect sense. We hate companies more often than their games. E.g. I have the same relationship with Diablo2 and Blizzard.

Edit: big offtopic there. Are there any news about next udpate?

He hates on everything the Pimps do.

Maybe if he was on the forums then he would see what they are up too. Then again we are still waiting

My biggest issue is, when the company goes dark and isn't forth coming with information. Maybe they have nothing to report, but it's ominous we haven't heard a peep out of them.

We heard stuff from faatal about a week ago.  He's the main one who talks to us, so I wouldn't say anything is unusual about communication right now.  About the only thing that I've found a bit strange is the lack of feedback from TFP regarding the XBox store for PC not getting the 1.4 update.  In the past, they've at least said something about it, but I haven't seen anything.  Other than that, things are about the same as normal, imo.  And I personally wouldn't ever buy anything from the XBox store for PC.  I won't even buy anything from the Microsoft store, though I have a few free games I've gotten on there (and don't play).  But I understand why people want to use that.  I just find Steam to be much better (and GOG and even Epic as option better than anything from Microsoft, though I also don't buy games from Epic and just have a ton of free games on there).

I do understand that but I can't really think of many companies that are super duper active with every small update.

Hell I wanna see and play the new update and I think a dev stream/streamer weekend is overdue for AWHILE and I'm salty

Then again we don't want another alpha 17 cuz that ran like @%$#.

But whenever I see his videos I just role my eyes.  Just that's all he talks about really.

Does the game need more of everything? Yes it does. It needs alot of work done but endless hate just gets boring unless your funny about it. Spoiler he isn't

I'm not saying TFP are untouchable

Cuz they do so many things that just don't make sense at times.

I'll list a few

The fact they can't decide what there Game whats to be? You wanna be survival or a rpg? It's OK too be both but you gotta balance alot

Silly removing and changes and dumbing things down.

Imo

: not focusing on making the game less clunky

The over relying on modders to make just simple changes I'm sure the devs could do in a day or less. I'm not talking overhaul like darkness falls

I'm talking like. Smelling, weather, zombie spawns, decorations, etc

There's also such a thing as responsibility, which many youTubers/twitchers/streamers don't realize. Or they realize, but they don't care, because views and comments are more important. When you have a channel with 100 subscribers, and the views of one video reach at least 1000, you can say anything, whine as much as you want, yell and hate everyone. When you have a large audience and large viewings, many people hear you and you hear a lot of people. Everyone has their own point of view on the game, one doesn't like one thing, the other - another thing. But when one popular person tells everyone the whole list of things they don't like, they all think about it and start noticing it. And then they may start to become disillusioned with the game if they don't have enough critical thinking. Especially "that's what that popular dude said"! 🥴 You know what I mean?
Do I like everything about the game? No. But I don't tell my audience about this, because the game itself in general provides incredible gameplay that covers all the minuses or shortcomings.
In addition, in order to fairly objectively criticize the game, you need to understand at least a little bit how games are developed in general. But only a few out of thousands are interested in this. They say that you don't have to be a cook to tell that the soup is unsalted. Well, yes, but games are not soup, games are better compared to... em... maybe perfume - if you don't like the fragrance, you can say "too sour" or "too pungent" or even just "I don't like it." Can you name the ingredient that caused this to happen? Or maybe you can tell which ingredient is needed to make it better? Well yeah... :eyebrows:
