Quotes from @faatal

"All biomes other than forest have a biome hazard, as we are calling it now, which will start killing you after a few minutes in the biome. I have been calling it biome survival or progression as biome weather is confusing as it is not clouds/wind/rain/snow.

Learning to survive the hazards requires multiple steps for each biome that take a reasonable amount of time to complete. Completion rewards you with an immunity item you equip. Biomes must be completed in order of difficultly. Some of this may change and balance is ongoing. There is also a game option to turn it off."

"Yes. Forest trees are now in clusters based on the new unified noise function with a new growth ring around them, more bushes and added small tree/bush clusters. This technique will be done to other biomes. Wasteland ground is more natural, with new grass blocks mixed in and the old slope rule removed and different decorations." Faatal

credit too @FramFramson again for finding it

"Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response? Creepy!

We are working on a new doc of 2.0 features as I generally only like to hint at spoilers for my own stuff and not other dev's. Hopefully that gets posted *soon and we start our 2.0 dev diary."

This update comes out at the end of the year since the developers are delaying so I don't know why there is so much excitement for something second that is missing a lot of time, many things that you propose are not going to appear in the final version since they are going to be paid for with Future DLCS =)

Idk who told you the end of the year. Most likely summer

This update comes out

What's with the large font?

I don't know why there is so much excitement for something second that is missing a lot of time

I'm not really sure what "something second that is missing a lot of time" means. Assuming it is a reference to the version being called 2.0, I'm capable of managing my expectations. Whatever comes, whenever it comes, is fine with me.

not going to appear in the final version since they are going to be paid for with Future DLCS

At the current rate of releases, future DLCs would be years from now. Isn't it a bit early to be agonizing over if being able to dress your character in corduroy pants is going to cost you a few bucks?

I have developer relatives... they told me that themselves

Oh cool. Wait, isn't this going to make your next family get-together kind of awkward? I mean if my brother were trying to stir up unrest among my customers, I'd be upset.

Did you really pull the "My dad works at Nintendo" card?

Which ones

Some are from old dev streams

Some from the winter update talking about 2.0

Some from the forums itself

Just ask and I'll provide

The ones I quoted:

  • Updated Trees for Performance and some new biome looks
  • Updated handheld Drinks and Food Item meshes
  • New Sub Title System
  • New belt message priority system

Also curious what "belt message priority" means.

I think "belt messages" are the texts telling you you're infected / encumbered etc. "On top of the toolbelt", or some such. Priority for them would mean something like showing "combat information" first and whatever crafting unlocks you did before getting crit after - or vice versa, depending on what is considered a priority 😛

Not sure if your more general "biome changes" comments covers it, but Fataal mentioned that vegetation will be clumpier in biomes in the future. More groves and clusters of trees with bushes for undergrowth.

I'll add this too too the forum.

I hope we get overgrown areas

It's not a MAJOR hcnage, obviously but I think it will help add some needed variety within a biome in lieu of actually bringing back sub-biomes.
