18.1 Low FPS Help

Hello,

Currently, I'm sitting around 18-20 fps when outside after reducing all graphics settings to minimum and tweaking things in the NVIDIA Control Panel according to other threads. Can anyone give me any advice on whether my comp is just too weak to handle the game, or if there is anything else I can try?

What I have tried:

>Deleting all files/uninstalling and then reinstalling.

>Disabling Anisotropic filtering

>Adjusting 7D2D to prefer performance under power management, high performance under texture filtering - quality, threaded optimization - on, vertical sync - on, max prerendered frames - 4.

>Exclusive Fullscreen mode

>Absolute minimum video settings across the board

>Vsync disabled

System Specs:

Processor: Intel Core i7-7700 3.6 GHz Quad-Core

RAM: 16gb

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3gb

OS: Window 10 x64

I can play games like Subnautica with medium settings without lag, if that helps as a barometer. Task Manager shows GPU at 100%, but I don't understand how that can be, since my specs seem above minimum. Thank you for any advice!

 
Same thing is happening with me. I get horrible lag when looking around the wilderness, but as soon as I go indoors or even look at a building, I get 60+ FPS. Only when it turn away does my FPS go back down to around 20 or whatever. It's really ruining the new build for me which is a disappointment.

 
I have essentially the same setup as you, quad core i5 3550, 1060, and 20 GB of ram, and on lowest settings I get over 150 fps. I normally play on high settings getting between 50-80 fps. NVIDIA control center 3D settings are on defaults.

Turning Occlusion on helps performance, turning Texture streaming on helps performance.

If you force VSync on in the NVIDIA control panel, disabling it in the game does nothing.

You should set it to "application controlled" or "off" in the NV control panel.

Are you playing at 4k?

Maybe it isn't the game, maybe something goofy is going on with your computer.

A log might be helpful.

Wow! My daughters Laptop has really close specs it is i5 -8300 with 8Gb Ram and GTX 1060 3Gb.

And this pile of metal gets like 40-70fps on openAir with settings mid-high shadows/reflections off

 
I think your main issue is your VRAM. I originally was playing with something like a Intel Core i3, 8 GBs of RAM, and a GTX 650 Ti with 2 GBs of RAM, and that would barely run the game at max resolution. Just upgrading my graphics card to a GTX 1070 (8 GBs for comparison) helps a ton, as I can run the game smoothly at max settings, with full resolution. I still get some drops but that's probably due to me not yet upgrading the rest of my PC, namely the RAM since I need to get 16 GBs more soon. But yeah, as of now this game is heavily reliant on VRAM. So I'd suggest either upgrading or making the resolution smaller.

 
Exactly the same! When the game thinks I'm entering a building, suddenly my fps doubles. Still haven't had any luck finding the issue.

 
That's kinda where I'm at right now. No matter what I seem to do, I only get an improvement of 1-2fps. Did all of the above, but nothing. Maybe something is acting up somewhere.

 
Maybe, but on half size textures my game only uses 2.5 GB of Vram.The OP has 3 GB so running at half textures should be fine.

You're absolutely correct. And the comparison of GTX 650 2Gb to GTX 1070 8Gb is like comparing a man with a shovel to an excavation brigade))

That's true, but I was comparing the OP's 3 GB 1060 to my 6GB 1060, which is a valid comparison.

Well I use my MacBook Pro 2018 with Radeon Pro 555X with 4Gbs... And I do run it 1280*800 textures: half, rest -> lowest possible. I manage to constantly get 27-45 fps outside. Inside sometimes I get like 80-90 fps thank to new rendering calculation.

My daughters Asus notebook with GTX 1060 3gb manages to run it in 1980*1280 with FULL texture and all but reflections/shadows on with rates like 40-75... So I guess OP has some trouble with drivers or settings whatever...
