This is impossible. In my country there are sayings: “there is no friend according to taste” and “how many people, so many opinions.”
Let the game be what it is. I don't like all the changes in the latest updates, but I play it. It may be worth adding some options, but in general it can be customized to your taste. Plus there are also mods.
Correct. I should have wriitten "make the game more appealing to the presumable majority of current players".

Sure, but keep RWG freeplay and Navezgane/story mode separate from another as in Green Hell and other "survival" games.
Most will play through the story mode once, at best and RWG doesn't need the linearity. The game wasn't designed to be a RPG or MMO or grand adventure game or consideration of that would've come first in any and all planning and decisions about it. It's the sandbox everyone is having so much fun in, so let them have their fun and save the railroads for Navezgane. 'kay. Won't mention it here again. Maybe Discord or something, but not here.
For me the pure joy of seeing that 7 Days had finally released 1.0 was extraordinary. I had been playing for around 2 and a half years at the time. I'm not one of the OG's and wasn't around for many of the more, controversial updates. But in those 2 and a half years I gained an appreciation for this game and its many little niches.
However it all changed when the fire nation attacked, ( the update finished). I load up the game and boom, many of the features I had to love had been outright removed for what seemed like no reason. There are some changes I like, as in the water collection update, but besides that it was overall Garbage.
