Hi all, I will try to keep it TL;DR on this.
Been a 7D player/server hoster since 2014, off and on, always played the new patches and changes.
I decided to get me a server going again and see how 1.0 will be. Playing with a friend we dove into it.
I wil just give a conclusion, this is all my/our opinion ofcourse; everybody likes to play a game differently and to have the game play differently.
The early game progress seems fair, it was actually not easy to get proper food going since the pots are not in ovens anymore. I personally like it, it feels more realistic to have food problems after an apocalypse. The progress seems good, no weird stuff, nothing really slacking.
I never liked the forced-jobs system much, the game pushes you towards doing trader jobs; unless you dont want a quick bicycle and that. I can live with it, im sure many love it that way, I personally am not a big fan of steering an otherwise open game into 1 lineair direction.
Same with XP, I was always a builder/miner and got my progression that way, now I am slacking on XP since the tools you loot are way under the tiers you used to.
I do like that you cant (easily) find an iron pick on day2, however I started to get seriously behind on XP compared to my friend who played the trader-jobs route. So if you want to get better tools to get more resources to get ready for the next 7th day horde that will be bigger than last one, you need more XP thus you need to do jobs..
Now once I got my tools, first iron then slowly to steel, I felt I was really picking up pace. One-hitting ores, with the miner outfit buffs etc, I was mining crazy amounts all of the sudden.
By the time we had a chem station going, I did 1 trip to the desert, did a 10-15 minute mining session of shale; we were set for life on gas. I mined like 40,000 coal at night with a steel pick etc.
I got lucky and got an early auto-shotty and those things rip through everything. Some mods on it and it gets even better. One shotting a lot of Z's and looting good POI's, I never needed to make a single shotgun shell; loot was all thats needed.
All in all, I liked the early game challenges, the armor system seems ok with some tweaks and an interesting addition to focus on (get the full sets!). Vehicles look great and seeing the mods on them is even better.
Mid-late to late game, seems a bit too easy-mode for me. We were swimming in resources after reaching that midgame peak.
All in all, very enjoyable gameplay and additions, I think midgame progress could be stretched a bit more, endgame mining etc could be tweaked a bit more as well. I feel you get to the end game a bit too soon. All my opinion.
Also, the Random Gen works awesome, cities look great; no weird generation, and the POI's are really great to loot.
