7DVR 4.1.0.227

OMG FINALLY!!!! Thank you all for your patience! It's been quite a while since we last released an update. SteamVR started causing us some major issues, so we had to reprioritize life and focus hardcore on implementing OpenXR for 7DVR! This basically meant ripping out the guts of the mod and recoding huge sections from scratch. But things are working again and are better than ever! And with that introduction out of the way, @kaaliba & Necro(@Nephillim42) and I are super-duper excited to present a brand new version of 7DVR!

Here's what's new!

OPENXR! We've relied on SteamVR since the very beginning of 7DVR. Today, we switch everything over to OpenXR, a MUCH better option for games like 7 Days to Die. OpenXR is faster than SteamVR, it uses far less VRAM, and it allows us to have much greater control over the game. With this, you should immediately see at least some extra FPS, and maybe a lot more FPS in some situations. Combined with the OpenVR FSR App and other optimizations, most users should be able to play this game at a decent framerate. If you use Virtual Desktop (highly recommended!), be sure to use VDXR as your runtime and DO NOT launch SteamVR!

Compatibility with 7 Days to Die 3.0! It's works! Not only does the new version work in VR, but the UI and options have a really nice face lift. We've totally revamped our VR Options to add new features, make them prettier, and make them easier to use.

New Controls Customization! As part of the OpenXR work, we had to completely rewrite the code for user controls. This gave us a chance to make major improvements. You can now customize your controls with insane detail--much greater flexibility than we had with SteamVR bindings, and without all the SteamVR bugs 😅. The new system gives access to buttons and features that were inaccessible via SteamVR (e.g., the Menu buttons and thumb rest on Quest controllers). This will also give us access to all buttons on future controllers...ahem...Steam Frame!!!

Map Keyboard Buttons to Controllers! 7 Days uses a LOT of keyboard buttons. And many overhauls use even more keyboard buttons. You can now create control mappings that allow you to press any keyboard button from within VR. So for example, if you want to use a keyboard button that commands your NPCs (like with NPCCore), you can map this to, say, holding grip and pressing another button.

Keyboard/Mouse and Gamepad Mode (Beta)! This very experimental feature has been requested by a LOT of users. For folks that don't want to swing around motion controls in zombies' faces, you can now use your keyboard and mouse! There is a new option called "Controller Mode" in VR Options to enable this. Once this is enabled, you can use standard 7D keyboard/mouse controls to move around and interact. Aim is head-based in this mode, so you attack things by looking at them and clicking. The gamepad mostly works as well. This feature is very much beta (onscreen keyboard is not working and vehicles are odd), but it's fun so far! We'll add instructions to The Guide on this soon!

Clickable Toolbelt! You can now change items by simply clicking the item on your toolbelt! This is a new feature, and we plan to improve it in the future, but it's an easy way to change weapons without cycling through your entire toolbelt.

Fixed Index Controllers! Index controller grips have always been SUPER sensitive in 7DVR. With OpenXR and our new control scheme, we've finally been able to fix this. Index users should find playing much easier now!

Fixed Trigger Clicks! Anyone who has played 7DVR for a while knows that it's nearly impossible to click buttons using triggers. Our solution up to this point has been to ask users to use the A button for clicks and the trigger for drag and drop. We've finally found a good way to make the trigger work for everything. Clicking is now easy with the trigger, though the A button is still a bit more reliable. For those with shakier hands, there is a new VR Option called "Click Steadiness", which allows you to click even if your motion controller moves a lot while doing so.

Asylum Support (maybe): Before the 3.0 update, we were testing early support for the hugely popular Asylum mod! Huge thanks to @Eth777. for doing nearly all of the work for this! As of this moment, Asylum does not appear to have been updated to 7D 3.0, but we're hopeful that we'll still be compatible once it does. Note that Asylum includes a "Rainstorm" mod that is incompatible with VR currently. Eth777 has figured out a fix for this. If it is still needed for Asylum when it is released for 3.0, we'll be sure to give instructions for Eth777's fix!

LOTS and LOTS of Bug Fixes and Tiny Improvements: This message is already way too long, so here's a quick list of some of the improvements!
Fixed Pegleg Bug! Feet no longer disappear for some shoes/boots.
Left-handed mode auto-detected at Main Menu (just click with your dominant hand).
Cursor scales with distance (no huge cursor up close or teeny cursor far away).
Fixed ADS bug. Aiming down sights used to be interrupted by firing your weapon. No more!
F1 - F12 keys available in virtual keyboard. See VR Options to enable them.
Fixed bug that caused double hits when harvesting (e.g., wrenching a car).
Fixed hand animation bug where hands/fingers could be in wrong position for an item (probably!).
Updated translations. Thanks to @Kondiq for Polish and @jugonsolitario for Spanish. The rest are translated by AI, so please forgive if they're bad!
Improved/Updated item calibrations! Thanks to @DragonzHeartz and @Eth777 for this work!!!
Lots of changes behind the scenes to prepare for upcoming features!
And a whole lot more that are either too tiny to mention or that I've forgotten!! 😅

Last Note! We unfortunately haven't had time yet to update the 7DVR Guide yet. There's lots of instructions we need to add for these new features. We'll update this as soon as possible! ❤️
Updated to be compatible with the new cameras & models in 7D2D 2.5 release!
Also added some network protections for the client/server to prevent unhandled exceptions.

Known Bug: Some of the new footwear models make your feet disappear... Just think of them like glass jars: We don't think you need them to enjoy the game and they'll be back eventually when we get it figured out!
Minor update to support the 2.3 update of 7 Days.
We missed a spot when fixing the mod to be compatible with 2.1 release that caused a crash in multiplayer. Sorry about that!
Fixed mod compatibility with 7D2D 2.1 release
Alright, 7DVR Family! It's that time!!! 2.0 has been released as Stable, @kaaliba and @Nephillim42 (necr0) now release our (hopefully) "Stable" version of 7DVR to match! We found a number of smallish, pesky bugs in 7DVR 3.3, and those are all now fixed. Now nothing can get in the way of your bonking enjoyment!

Here's a quick list of what's new since 7DVR 3.3.1:
7D 2.0 Stable Compatibility!!! WOOT! We've done as much testing as we can with 2.0 Stable. Enjoy the excitement of the Storm in 7D with all the glory of VR!
Fixed X-Ray Torch flame bug (again!) 🤣: For those with good memories, it used to be possible to see torch flames through walls. This bug decided to return for 2.0. We've squished it again!
Meat Choppy Chop! Fixed inability to harvest meat and other things rapidly with physical melee attacks! 🍖
Vehicle Gun Laser Fix: We found a fix for an issue where your laser pointer would go wonky when mounting/dismounting vehicles.
Dynamic Object Quality Ally Mode Fixes: All the fancy new 7DVR Options for Dynamic Object Quality are now available for VR Allies (flat players who have 7DVR installed). See cars and corn from far, far away!!! 🌽

Updated Language Translations: Updated Polish for new options and added translation for Spanish! Big thanks to @Kondiq and @Jugon Solitario for translations!
Dedicated Server fix: Fixed a giant cascade of horrible infinite errors that would happen if you tried to disconnect from a dedicated server!
HOPEFULLY Fixed the Upside Down: As many of you know, the new Upscaling in 7D does not work in VR 😭 😭 😭 . It causes the world to be upside down and all sorts of crazy. Despite our best attempts to force Upscaling OFF, it sometimes turns on for new players. We added extra code to double-extra-demand that Upscaling be OFF for VR. Fingers are crossed this handles it for real now!

As always, we want to give a HUGE MEGA thanks to our Testers for doing some seriously great (and FAST) work in finding bugs for us to squish! 🪲 💥 Thank you also so very much to our Patrons for your incredible support, and thanks to this whole community for making this project fun!!! ❤️‍🔥 ❤️‍🔥

And our standard reminder: This mod is FREE!! But if you happen to be feeling particularly awesome and generous (and have the means), please consider donating!
