Item Stat Variability

Discliamer: I haven't played with it yet so this is first impressions from watching other videos.

So far it looks pretty good as a system. I have always missed the schematic and parts quality system. The idea is that you have a reason to continue scavenging after reaching tier 6 and you would need to learn how to make an item via a schematic before you could build it.

The new system does something very similar in that it encourages scavenging and with the magazine system it makes some sense that you might know how to make it.

A few things I did see might need to be tweaked such as numbers balance. For example the weighted head mod goes from 10% stun chance to 60% chance to stun which seems too high conceptually.

The teal upgrade percentages are a bit ■■■■■■■ the eyes. Not sure what other colors could be used or maybe it's just a me issue which is also possible.

Lastly, I think combinations should require something other than the two weapons and table. I don't think it should solely be reserved for end game content so it shouldn't be too punishing but it should be rare enough to have people not spam combine 6 weapons and become too strong too fast. IMHO, a new resource "kit" should be required for each craft and they should be rare in loot and in limited supplies at each trader for a reasonable price.

My worry is that if combining is too easy then the power scaling between weapons tiers becomes an issue and so does difficulty level. I feel like early on tough choices should be made on what you wish to upgrade to perhaps you holdout for better gear.

This is complicated by the sheer number of items you can upgrade but I am interested in others take on the new system. I definitely like it, but I have some reservations on the finer details.

Thoughts?

I definitely like the look of the system from the small amount I've seen. Extending the period where loot is impactful can only be a good thing. With the new system it looks like finding upgrades will a be a possibility for much longer than previously.

The main thing I'm really curious about is whether 'star values' are variable, or whether any item just has a star for a given attribute or it doesn't. If they're binary then I think that means once you find a weapon with a star in each attribute, you can combine them all together to get an 'all stars' item and then combine that with a crafted item to get a max quality all stars item.

If it works that way, it's will be relatively easy to get to a maxxed out weapon or armour piece.

The variable quality levels on mods is huge though, however the star system works for items. Especially if, again from limited viewing, you can only ever craft Q1 versions of a mod and have to find better than that in loot.
