Thoughts on 3.0?

Whats your thoughts on 3.0, personally I think it's really good, it's definitely gonna add more variety to our games. It's just lacking in 2 curtain areas for me and that's crafting progression, I wish there was another way to progress without magazines, I'm happy u can turn off magazines but I think that means everythings unlocked from the start which is kinda worse so idk what I'll pick, I have hope that they'll bring the lbd crafting system next update, (personally I wish everything was a schematic again, it made searching loot unpredictable in the best way.) I also wish u could turn off the loot progression system(make looting how it use to be)
To finish, there's no way I couldn't like this update but, it really doesn't answer my main problems with the game(crafting magazines and loot progression)

For me, it won't be that great. I think it's great for some people, but for me it is just a lot of options I have no interest in. I also don't think it will add much variety to the vast majority of players. I think most players will change the settings to whatever combination they prefer and then use those same settings every game. So while their game would be different compared to what it was in 2.6 or earlier, future games will not be different and so there won't really be variety. I think (and may be wrong) that only a very small percentage of players will actually change settings from game to game (beyond the initial testing of settings to see what they like). Only they would have actual variety from 3.0.

Still, it's a good update for people who don't like vanilla or for console players (who again don't like vanilla).

But we'll see. Once I get a chance to try it out, maybe there will be some settings that I think are actually good for me. But I don't see anything that stands out right now and probably won't even bother with experimental because of that.

Well, I enjoy vanilla and I have absolutely loved experimenting with all the new options. It hasn't ever been about trying to find the best mix that makes the game better than vanilla that I can switch to and then use forever because that is the only way I would ever want to play. It has been about creating new experiences and challenges. Vanilla is always there to come back to and even though I might try a run without magazines and all recipes available to me from the start and enjoy that immensely, I still want to play a future run with the magazine progression. Getting rid of magazines (for example) isn't only for folks who hate magazines.

I normally dont bother making higher end foods because I never felt I ever needed the buffs they gave. However, now that you can turn off the health and stamina gain from leveling up, I might actually be compelled for once to do so.

A setting to only have 1 HP would be funny, gotta admit. Imagine dying to a tiny cactus or your bicycle tipping over and falling on you. 😜

Like I said, there are those who will do challenge runs and stuff that will enjoy that variety. It isn't something I have any interest in. And I have a feeling most players aren't interested in that, though that's just a guess. Considering I think most players don't bother changing settings, based on the number of people who complain about something that can be changed with a setting.... we'll see.

Either way, as I said, it's definitely a good update for a lot of people. I always support options. These options just don't really interest me personally. The new POI are what are more likely to interest me.

Isn't it statistically true that on average most players never touch any settings, like ever? Just chiming in, thought I heard that from somewhere...

It might be a great update for anyone who on consoles or refused to play with mods. New Pois? great. But for most of us, there’s hardly any reason to go back.

When you take a look at the official roadmap, by Q4 2025 we were supposed to have:
- Bandits
- New HUD
- Event System
- 2 New quest types
- Trader overhaul
- Story mode
- Steam Workshop support

None of them accomplished. It’s hard to believe that, a year after 2.0, this is all the work that’s been done. Calling it 3.0 just feels wrong but that's the least of our worries. I’d rather not beat myself up thinking about how long it would have taken the developers of Crimson Desert to create this sandbox options update.

I think it’s pretty obvious that they’ve cut back on the number of developers working on 7 Days to Die and are focusing on another project, which is to be expected given the years of free content we’ve had, even though not all the Kickstarter goals have been met yet. Did anyone in the room actually believe that we’re going to get a proper major update end of 2026?

TFP, all I ask is that you be honest, admit to all the promises that will never be kept, and give 7d2d a proper endgame before abandoning it (undoubtedly the most important thing left for the game to complete) and present your new project to us.

I don't like TFP. I don't like what they did to the game, I don't like how long they always take, I don't like their attitude towards the players.
But that is one good update.
One thing I'd like to see though is to be able to switch off their ugly splash screen commercial when booting up the game. It really should be standard: You want to advertise some stuff of yours? Sure, but give the player the option to permanently turn it off. Just like some games have options such as "skip intro video".
But they won't, will they? Which adds yet another tiny reason why I don't like TFP.
The update's a good one though.

General tab in options. Startup options:
-skipnewsscreen=true -skipintro

Do you not like yourself now for not knowing?

This is a very good update. At first, it might seem a bit small, but the gameplay options alone are fantastic. I'm really happy that I can now play the game exactly the way I want.

One of the things I was most excited about is being able to adjust loot settings such as ammo abundance, drinks, and other resources. Even at 25% loot, I often felt like I was finding too much of certain items, so having more control over that is great.

I also really like the trader options and the ability to prevent traders from selling overpowered items. I enjoy doing trader quests, but I've never liked how they could sell extremely powerful items from the start. There are so many settings that I can't even remember all of them right now, but I'll definitely spend hours experimenting with them because there are so many possibilities. I'm not even sure yet how I'll end up playing, but one thing is certain: I won't be using the preset difficulty levels. I'll be creating my own custom settings.

I love the idea that we can now play without knowing the time from the start and actually have to craft our own watch. I'm also glad that the drone got its shock modification back. It's great to see a new turret added as well. We also got a new workstation, which I'm very happy about. I'll definitely be playing with settings that prevent repairing items directly from the backpack, making the workstation necessary for repairs.

Even with all these new options and features, the thing that impressed me the most is definitely the item-combining mechanic. I think it's an amazing addition. The fact that even mods can now have their own quality levels and can be combined and upgraded makes progression feel much more meaningful. Honestly, this one feature makes so many other systems in the game feel more worthwhile and interconnected.

The only thing I don't really like is that items with better stats are marked with a star. I think there could have been a better way to indicate items with better stats.

I also noticed what appears to be some new clothing mods, which is another nice addition.

I'm honestly shocked that they added more than 60 new POIs. That alone is incredibly impressive. The Champions Coliseum especially made a huge impression on me, and I can't wait to see it in-game. I also like all the new signs and environmental details they make the world look much better.

As for the new UI, I'm a bit mixed on it. The main menu with the animations looks fantastic, but once you go into things like the New Game screen, I'm not a huge fan of the new layout and menus. I preferred the old design. That said, it's probably just a matter of getting used to it. In the end, the UI doesn't really affect the gameplay itself, so it's not a major issue for me.

I was initially disappointed that the Chicken Coop wasn't included because I had been looking forward to it. However, I later found out that it's planned for Version 3.x, so that's great news.

Overall, I think this is an excellent update. After watching the stream for the first time, I actually thought there wasn't that much new content. But after taking a closer look at all the gameplay options and reading through the patch notes,i got a completely different impression once I took a closer look at it.There are a lot of things that the developers didn't show on the stream, which they actually do quite often. But that's okay it's always nice to be pleasantly surprised when you discover something new yourself.

This is a version of the game that I will genuinely enjoy playing. I hope the update won't come with too many bugs.

I think that's everything I wanted to say just my honest and objective opinion on the update. I love it.

There’s actually way more than it seems, and it’s a really big update. I’ll have to check it myself because we didn’t really learn that much from the dev stream.Besides, I’m shocked that so much was done in such a short amount of time

"We're loosing player engagement, any idea's?"
"Add toggles, testing each option will cost them at least half hour per toggle."
"Interesting, how long will that work?"
"I'll add 150 of those."
"Perfect! We might have bandits or story done by the time they get bored."
"Don't worry, they can request more toggles if they get bored again."

Jokes aside, as a console player I might benefit of this update. But realy, the time they needed to get to this point...

The official roadmap was practically invalid with their first update which already came too late. Honestly, it astounds me how a forum user from 2017 still overestimates TFP's development speed. You should have seen enough precedence of TFP missing dates and beeing slow in development.

Furthermore the current 3.0 update was prompted (or forced) by a ■■■■storm that demanded lots of the old features to come back. Which was solved by adding all these options.
At the time Madmole clearly said this would delay whatever was still on the roadmap as this development would interrupt the development of bandits and the rest. Now here we have witnessed that delay. Is that really so surprising?

You don't need to like that they added this detour, you could easily critizise them for giving in to the pressure and ignoring your wishes. But simply ignoring those facts to make wild accusations about silently dropping features and lying about it (as they repeatedly have said that bandits and story will come) is dishonest in my view. Or did you really miss out on the biggest ■■■■storm happening in 7d2d's development history?

According to posts on reddit Crimson Desert had 250 developers at peak working on the title. Could that have something to do with development speed as well?

Do you have any programming experience so that you could correctly assess how much development time would be needed to develop 3.0? Or is your experience from witnessing movies where hackers get into NSA computers on a regular basis after a few minutes of hacking? Just asking.

wtf is this nonsense?

everyone should have just known TFP were incapable of meeting the road map? the official road map was practically invalid with their first update?
everyone should have known that they are slow developers?

the current 3.0 sandbox was born out of TFP IGNORING complaints for years...perhaps, keeping the sale to Behaviour alive, is a better explanation as to why they felt they had to do it First.

Does he have a computer degree? I don't think anyone needs a degree to know that the constant reworking of existing systems instead of making progress towards goals that have not been met...increases how long a project takes. (from the outside) it looks like Poor management has delayed this game far more than anything else has.

If your cousin Freddy always comes late to parties and you invite him to a party, you probably won't like it and you can certainly critizise him for it, but it should not come as a surprise. And if he is late on this new party you don't need to invent theories about him having a car breakdown or having been mugged, because it is to be expected that he will be late again.

Yes, sure. Because they had different plans, it is their game they wanted to make. Because any change will have at least some users who don*t like that change, always. For most games customers don't have a way to influence development at all. And early access is no guarantee or includes an obligation that a developer gives up his power to direct development to "random" players.

But you can complain about that surely. Though if your opinion is they should listen to complainers and nostalgic players then you can't complain if they had a change of heart and suddenly listen to them. Either, or. Either they have done something right when listening to the complainers, or they have done something wrong. What is it?

...perhaps, keeping the sale to Behaviour alive, is a better explanation as to why they felt they had to do it First.

If they were looking for a merger at that time it seems a probable assumption. But, does it really matter much? Obviously TFP didn't want to insert that development detour, they were forced by the dropping steam scores. That steam score would have been a problem whether they were looking for a merger or hoping for continued revenue.

I have seen lots of progress. Progress that can be easily discounted with "I didn't ask for it" or "I never wanted this", but nevertheless progress, wanted at least by the developers. That "constant reworking of existing systems" is part of development that you don't see with games in closed development, but is happening there as well, at least with innovative titles.

But HeLLKnight didn't complain about that, this is just you adding your own complaints to the mix. He complained about the current speed of development for 3.0 and ignored past development speed of TFP and assumed that 3.0 was just some easy peasy work that couldn't have taken this long. And for that later part some knowledge about development would surely help.

No, weirdo, I'd be grateful. No such option there though. There is a mod that does the trick, you might have it and forgot. Will get it too.

It's not in-game options. You can add "-skipintro -SkipNewsScreen=true" (without the quotes) to the launch options in steam.

/Library/Properties/General/Advanced users may...

You can also add it to a windows shortcut if you start the game that way. Edit: the shortcut that steam adds to your desktop doesn't need this, it uses the launch option setting. You would do this for shortcuts you create yourself.

Whats your thoughts on 3.0

I'm hopeful more people get to play closer to how they want to play and that there might a little less unrest among the player base.

I look forward to not having to maintain as many of the little personal mods that I use in my private games.

I look forward to playing with the new signs feature.

I look forward to seeing the new POIs.

I'm curious to see if I like degradation, repair, and magnitude. I suspect I'll like some version of them.

I can't really tell what all the options do based on their names, so I expect to spend an hour or so reading the descriptions in the game.

If I had a worry, it would be that finding servers with options that I like will get harder. It was already hard enough that I rarely did.

I think they are taking a big step in the right direction with more sandbox options.

I personally hope they add a toggle with “darker nights” as it was pre alpha 20 … I think that’s quite important for the horror / survival genre to actually not be able to see a lot at night without a decent light source , right now I feel I never need a headlight and I think turning down your brightness isn’t a true fix

The real issue is a lot of players aren't asking for their screen to be darker they're asking for the game world itself to be darker so that flashlights, helmet lights, night vision, and nighttime exploration feel more meaningful

So yeah that’s one toggle I’d love to see added in the near future
