Whats the logic behind eatting and smelling after.

It’s a fantasy game. Zombies aren’t real and have powers that are fantastical. They can punch through steel and concrete with their bare hands.

My dog knows whenever anyone starts eating anywhere in the house. Could be he smells it and hears the masticating. The zombies have an exaggerated sense just like my dog for the purpose of having a fun game.

Raw meat smell hardly matters once you have a bike. Eating smell creates great stories.

So don’t overthink it. It’s just the way that universe works.

Ok after playing a bit, what is the logic behind eatting something and smelling after. Cuz I dont understand,

Ok so ether we are toddlers and we smear food all over us, We eat and we insta Fart after, we start sweating grease after we eat? Idk.
I don't think it's so kucb eating but when you consume something you have it open to air which would release some form of smell. It's the best I got.

Opening up food to the air does release a smell. Some foods more than others. Chewing would release some smell as well. My dog does come sniffing around when I am eating. Our zombies have a great sense of smell, just like my dog.

I found this Brave AI summary interesting:

"Dogs use their sense of smell to perceive the world in intricate detail. They can detect not only the presence of a scent but also its source, direction, and even the time it was deposited, as odors decay predictably over time. A single sniff can convey information about a person's gender, mood, health, diet, and emotional state. They can identify individuals, including family members and other dogs, even after years of separation, and can determine the social status and health of other animals through scent signals like urine marking. Dogs can also detect changes in human metabolism associated with diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and even COVID-19 with high accuracy, sometimes reaching 97% detection rates.

Dogs use their sense of smell for navigation, tracking, and survival. They can follow scent trails over long distances—bloodhounds have been known to track a trail for more than 130 miles—and can detect scents buried up to 40 feet underground. They can even identify human fingerprints that are a week old and detect cremated remains among ashes from a burned house. This remarkable ability has led to their widespread use in law enforcement, search and rescue, and medical detection, where they serve as mobile, highly sensitive chemical scanners."

Regardless, I think a lot of people are commenting that things with smell make no sense. I think it might be worth considering that even if you can come up with a reason for it, it may just not be a good thing to have smell from eating everything. And even if you're talking about eating or opening food being able to create a smell, that smell should disappear very quickly after you finish eating and toss the can/plate (yes, stuff is tossed... including jars). Once eaten, the only way anything could smell you is if your mouth is open or you are a very messy eater and get it all over yourself all the time. Otherwise, there's no smell after you finish eating. So, yeah... animals can smell things really well, but the smell when eating thing is still really weird and doesn't make much sense.

My perspective would be that food smells all the time, but you probably carry it around in some container not represented in the game. You open the container to eat it, letting the food's odors out into the world. Once consumed the food is once again contained though some lingering odors are present on you until it fades due to your movement, wind, etc.

Since we can now wrap raw meat in paper to avoid odor, you could urge TFP to make us wrap all food up in paper to avoid smell. While that might be consistent, I'm not sure that consistency gains us much.

I explained how it makes sense, you just don't agree with it. I know many people who like it. You open the food to eat it, so the smell is in the air. It does disappear at a rate that I consider quickly. We like it and find it fun. We gave you a setting to turn it off of you don't like it.

Exactly. I can get behind the bloody raw meat smelling and having to do something about that, but not being surrounded every time I open a can of pears. I get that both developers and many players want instances wherein something sets off all the zombies in the area, but this smells (pun intended) of using Screamer overmuch to do that instead of coming up with something new, like trip wires that can be disarmed or similar. It's overdone. It's too much and often.

At times, it seems nearly everyone wants to wipe out any down or quiet time the game has to offer.
We gave you a setting to turn it off of you don't like it.

Here's the problem with those settings: you're giving players options to turn entire features off, e.g. storms, if there's some aspect of it they find unenjoyable or unbearable, leaving them to miss out on everything else it has to offer.

Please, at least consider the feedback you're getting before saying, "Well, we like it. So should you." ;)

I like the new smell mechanic.

I've been testing it and I've seen that the mechanic doesn't activate if you have 4 pieces of raw meat, but it does if you have 5. Is this intentional or a bug?

I also believe that sleepers should react to the smell, at least a few meters away, so as not to cause performance issues.
