So again. No new late game goals or content. No new end game. No bandits. No radiation zone. No new levels or skills. Sigh...

I mean, I hate to be negative, but I really really like this game, and it just isn't evolving into what I want it to be I guess. Maybe I'm in the minority.

Honestly, out of all the things people want this game to evolve into, are any of the above listed changes even in your top 100 wish list items?

If you use turrets, the turret change is a good one. Not being able to loot regular ammo after the first few days means you were stuck crafting all ammo you want to use in turrets even when you have thousands of AP or high power ammo available. But beyond that, I'm pretty much with you on your opinion of 2.5. I gave a more thorough opinion of 2.5 in the 2.x dev diary thread earlier. Unfortunately, that was before the 2.5 dev diary thread and I'm not going to repost it there, so it's just going to be lost in the wrong thread.

But if you were expecting any end game stuff or bandit stuff in 2.5, you had no chance of either. Bandits will be 3.0 and never had a chance of being in 2.5. End game content is pretty much going to be the story and bandit factions. I doubt you'll see much beyond that at any point in this game. They will add legendary items, but that's barely something you could count as end game content. It isn't too likely we'll see more levels or skills (perks), though it may be possible that we'll see a new tier of weapons by 4.0 even if it's not too likely. And I'm not sure what you mean about a radiation zone. There's one around the map and the wasteland is a radiation zone until you get the protection for it. If you wanted radiation in random places/POI, I don't think anything like that is planned... especially with the wasteland being full radiated already.

I'm firmly in the "Who cares?" camp on jars and water survival, but I've wanted distant storm rendering from the first time I stepped over a biome boundary into a raging storm, and then kept having to pop over it every few minutes to check whether the storm was still going. So that one's definitely been on my wish list.

And as a dedicated loot goblin who loves the motorcycle, the vehicle storage improvements sound great. Probably my favourite feature from the change list.

Many of the other changes are either somewhat interesting or will give a bit of a different flavour to the gameplay, and some variety there is good. For example, I started playing 7DtD after the previous smell mechanic had been removed so that's worth trying (although I'm not keen on the idea that just eating causes you to smell). So overall 2.5 sounds good to me.

But then, I'm definitely "Who cares?" about bandits ;) and I absolutely detest story-based games so am not hanging out for story mode either. I would like some new quest types and challenges, particularly if they're complex or multi-stage. Some new weapons would be nice but I'm not too fussed about that because my favourite archery is usually overlooked in weapons updates anyway.

So there's been a roadmap for how long now? And yet you still thought bandits would be in a 2.x patch? How can they make it any more obvious for you? This post was unnecessary...

It seems you missed the ■■■■storm that happened half a year ago on a few youtube channels complete with review bombing. This is why this stuff was implemented. And this also answers your question whether anyone asked for most of this stuff. Yes, they did.

I think the issue here is that you're part of the niche group that does level 300 playthroughs.

A lot of this is great for the early to mid game which to me is the best part of the game.

Many of these features are things that have been repeatedly asked for by a chunk of the community.

You should reserve judgement until you play with all these new features combined. There is much more thought and emergent gameplay in this build than in years. The community asked for most all of these features too so blame your fellow players if you don't care.

Honestly it's a ton of fun. I highly recommend a new start but we're supporting old saves. It's not apparent on the surface reading the release notes the impact these features have. For example on day one I had set up a small camp near some water 1/8th mile away or so. I made it home just after dark and realized I needed water badly and had found 2-3 jars that day. So I went out to fill the jars at night and zombies had spawned near the water. I snuck over and filled my jars but the zombies sensed me and I ran back to my base and barely defended my weak fort from them.

So you need to think about where you are building your base, how far a water supply is, and remember to fill them during daylight hours or risk a night time feral taking you out.

That's not even getting into smells which are a total game changer. Even late game if you just slam some food in the wasteland, it can attract a LOT of attention. I had just cleared a T6 poi and was beat up and wounded and infected, so I ate some honey brisket, a very powerful late game food that uses a lot of meat and honey to craft (I was tired of having 5 stacks of raw meat late game so this new recipe helps clear out your meat reserves!) and it started to cure my infection but the smell attracted a lot of zeds so it was a scary situation with the crits I had and lower health with zombie bears, wights and dire wolves, etc it was like a mini horde almost.

So eat indoors or wait until you are on the road to eat unless you're looking for some action.

Storms are no longer time out simulator. The better your clothing the longer leash you have to run around in a storm and not take damage. So it's risk assessment instead of a guaranteed time out for most players.

With biome hazards being airborne, storms, weather, and food creating smells the new meta is always being aware of your surroundings so you can take some cover from all the dangers out there, but beware of what's inside when you duck into a building. It's quite a different beast we have cooked up, so I wouldn't judge it too harshly until you get into it. Best build I've played in ages.

Not even sure what that means.
  • New Free Cosmetic Skins (Who cares?)
Cosmetics are cool.
  • New Trader Jen Model (Who cares?)
Hmm, will have to check her out.
Maybe I'm in the minority.
I dont know, but those last few things that mean a lot to you, mean nothing to me, at this time /shrugs.

Nothing you are upset isn't included was alluded to being in game before 3.0 so what is your actual issue?

You want stuff early?

OP has a level 300 character and is looking for “end game” content. IMO, he or she has brought the wrong mindset to this game. This game is all about restarts. Not maintaining a single character or save.

sorry to be a pain but are -all- foods weighted to attract zombies or will it follow the game's logic and only meat-based ones will attract the dead? a bear or coyote i can imagine wanting stuff like pie and tea since both are scavangers and take to omnivory when hungry enough but a zombie only ever seemed attracted to living/recently dead beings so i wouldnt think it would get excitable for vegetarian or vegan consumables

Well thought out much needed adjustment. Bravo Pimps. 👍

I think this has been overshadowed by other features. Clothing is back, people!
“Oh, you mean armor?”
No! Actual clothing items, separate from armor, which you wear for weather protection. One for each slot and three tiers of progression. Now, you won’t see it on your character, and I believe each tier is an across-the-board upgrade. So you won’t be switching from hot weather gear to cold weather gear, so much as swapping out poor quality clothing for better quality clothing. Still, it will be good to see clothing back in some form.

Overshadowed, perhaps; but for me, I just don't want to say much without trying it. I predict it'll feel like a small improvement, but I'll still miss the associated looks-customization; a positive for me, but a tiny one. But only a guess for now ;)
