Are TFP adding chicken coops and beehives to the game?

During the town hall meeting. did The Fun Pimps (TFP) mention that they were going to be adding chicken coops and beehives to the game (and other similar items)? I thought I heard them say this, but I just want to be 100% sure before I ask my next question.

If they are going to be adding these items, how are they going to do it? Are they going to be writing the code themselves? Or are they going to be "borrowing" the code from people who have already created these items? The reason I ask is I don't remember them giving any credit to the people who have already created these items during the town hall meeting. Even if they don't "borrow" the code, they should at least give these people credit for what they've already created. After all, it was the original creators of these items who had the ideas to do it in the first place.

Have TFP done this before, in the past? If they have, how did they handle it?

Things such as this are inspirations. Nothing more; nothing less. Such things are added to games all the time. Have food spoilage? Gauranteed, a fridge will be added to offset food spoilage because...some people don't like food spoilage.

This is not unique to 7 Days to Die. Just play FO76 if you want to know how out of hand such "inspiration" can get.

They already had chickens, eggs, feathers, and nests in the game. Chicken coops are a real life thing. Is that idea that unique that TFP need to credit someone else for it?

Same with bee hives and honey. They actually have bee hives in the game already too, don't they? Not functional ones, but I think they have little apiary-looking things in that one Tier 2 (iirc) POI that says "Honey" out front or something.

These ideas are not unique enough to assume that they were stolen from anywhere other than they exist in the real world.

Seriously, just look at FO76. "Oh, ■■■■! I have to find fully charged fusion cores to power my power armor! What if...I had a fusion core charger, even purchasable with real world money?"

And that's how they get ya. ;)

The ideas of having chicken coops and beehives and fish traps and rabbit traps were talked about on the forums with the devs back when I started playing in A6 and long before there were mods for those things.

TFP did not get the idea for these things from existing mods and they will code it themselves whenever they decide to add such things.

I imagine they got ir from common sense. Or...is that just my imagination?

Perhaps you're not familiar with the Overhaul Mod, "Darkness Falls" created by Khaine (sp?). There are chicken coops, beehives, and animal snares in that mod, although I'm not sure if he's the one who originally created them because I've also seen them elsewhere. So these "ideas" are already in the game, and have been created by somebody else. They're not just "inspirations" or something you see in the real world.

Somebody took the time to create these things for the game (a modded version), and they should be recognized for that if they're going to be used in the vanilla part of the game.

I just think people should be recognized for their ideas and hard work.
Even in the strictest of IP sense, the ideas for "chicken coops" and "beehives" etc are public domain; they were developed so long ago that they're just common knowledge.

For "hard work", TFP will obviously do their own work; no mod will do exactly what they want, or how they want it. Because mods are essentially written different. And even if one did exactly what they're planning, TFP wouldn't just grab one for the fear of pointless lawsuits.

Why stop there? Honestly, they should give thanks to the first video game ever, the first person to come up with the idea of a sandbox game as well as survival. Also, zombies.

While some things can be unique most games get inspiration from other games. For World of Warcraft it was Everquest. Unless it's a one for one copy then typically you don't give "appreciation". ARK is one of the few who just integrates someone elses work into their game with recognition.

Pretty sure the EULA says TfP has a license to use anything a modder creates (not counting 3rd party assets) so pointless lawsuits would indeed be pointless.

I do agree that coops and beehives would be common ideas. They mentioned them being more like workbenches, with tool slots for better performance, which is different than any mods I've seen.

But these are things you see in the real world. Khaine wasn't the first person to come up with these ideas. No disrespect to what they did.
Chicken coops, beehives and animal snares have been a part of real world and game survival for a long, long time.
Now if TFP used the exact same assets and functionality that Khaine used then I would like hey guys, come on.

P.S. Are you Khaine? Is that why you want credit so badly?

They certainly could be. It's like saying if you add a motorcycle to a game, you're copying another game, instead of simply copying a real-life motorcycle. You wouldn't make that accusation, would you?

I think most anybody here agrees with you that it wouldn't be 'right' for TFP to do a literal copy/paste of an item existing in a mod and then adding it to the vanilla game without any sort of acknowledgement. The point of contention is the idea that these potential additions are so unique that one could somehow argue that they almost certainly came from a specific mod.
