PC V3.0 Dead Hot Summer Dev Diary

@Laz Man
I was watching again The Walking Dead series.
On season 3 they take over a prison, which made me think... would it be possible to create a T5 POI based on THAT prison?

I know there's already a prison POI, but it would be kind of cool to have the same prison as the one in TWD series.
Maybe take it over like they did and make it your own base. :cool:

A POI based on the Walking Dead prison was made years ago. Not sure if it's in the Compo pack or if it was ever updated.

Can be seen here:

I remember on his YouTube channel he did before becoming a dev

Wouldn't that constitute a copyright infringement? I know 7DTD already has a "Fates Motel;" a POI based on some other horror movie house; perhaps more.

Mod authors can sometimes get away with that because they're not making any money with their mods. Most of the time, though, they receive cease and desist letters nonetheless, especially from the more litigious companies and estates. I had a mod based on LOTR weapons for Skyrim that was absolutely fantastic. I still have it somewhere because I downloaded it before the mod author received a cease and desist.

All in fun, I know, but 7DTD is a commercial product that's made millions, apparently without TFP concerning itself with copyright infringement at all. I won't say anything if you won't, but just one report of copyright infringement could very well find TFP in court again.

Already exists, actually the original is from Laz lol. Ive carried it in the backend collection part of the PEP collection. I have several locations based on the show, from a guy in Brazil called MacKenzie, though I still prefer the Laz version of the prison. Ive kept them current but out of normal use/rwg due to the large size of each the general issue with large POIs and zombie volume mismatch in quest modes, but yeah, we've got em still.

@schwanz9000

There has always been a problem with WalkType 2 (Boe, Chuck, etc) where the legs will hyperextend at the knee backwards and/or bend sideways. It only happens in-game and never when previewing the animation in Unity. Adjusting the length ratio between the upper leg and lower leg bones, as well as putting a slight bend at the knee helps reduce it but it doesn't fully stop it.

I just noticed, in Unity, that during the WalkType 2 animation, the feet are sinking below the zero plane with nearly every step. That combined with the Foot IK is forcing the leg to bend out of shape, which is why you see it only in-game. I tried raising the animation at the root so neither foot passes below the zero plane and it fixed it a lot but there is still occasional bending. I assume adjusting each individual foot and leg in the animation won't solve it either.

I think adjusting the Foot IK so it's constrained to only bend the legs in the natural direction will fix it. But that is pure speculation on my part.

They CAN'T Copyright a prison compound! Can they?? :unsure:

Guys, has anyone played a mod where there’s a cooldown for repairing blocks? I really liked what that meant during Horde Nights. Sometimes I feel that for experienced players, it’s far too easy to survive simply by repairing a few blocks whilst the zombies are attacking. This wasn’t the case years ago when concrete blocks had to set before they hardened or could be upgraded to steel.

Or perhaps it could be the damage caused by certain zombies that would be irreparable, meaning a new block would have to be built.

I’m just throwing out some more ideas for the new sandbox options menu, I wanted to know how interesting this might be :p

My understanding is you cannot copyright a real-world location or physical place. You can't copyright an idea, just an expression. It might also be possible that the POI creator is protected by parody/satire exceptions, or one of the fair use exceptions. This all assumes a POI creator is interested in spending money to defend themselves.

Probably depends on a number of factors, e.g. real world location or designed and built set. I wouldn't bet on someone connected with TWD not to get, shall we say, a little upset -- like Coca Cola got a little upset with the bottle design of Nuka Cola when Fallout went mainstream enough to get noticed. (That's why it looks like a stupid rocket these days.) I guess Coca Cola didn't want to be seen as peddling poison or something. No sense of humor at all and apparently averse to free advertisement.

I can see someone coming to their superiors and saying, "Hey! Have you seen that POI in [this or that game]? It looks like Home Depot." Or Waldenbooks or whatever else it is we recognize as such. And their superiors saying, "Why, no. I haven't, actually. Hmm." The parody/satire exceptions might apply, but then it would depend on the sense of humor (or greed) of the company or production execs as to whether to try and take a chunk out of TFP.

I would guess Coca Cola didn't want to loose their design trademarks for the bottle. The really weird trademarks rules practically force companies to defend their trademarks or loose them
