Why this release schedule?

I wanted to ask when I've been waiting for the previous release but forgot.

Who came up with this idea of streamer weekend with release on monday? Meaning that while I have whole weekend where I could be playing, I can't. And when the game releases, I can't play as well because I have a life and work 🤦

Is it just me or is this schedule just plain stupid for every normal person that has a normal job? If you want to support streamers, you could just as easily give them access in the middle of the week or something like that so everyone can play during the weekend.

while I understand your points if a streamer streams durig the week.. everyone is at work.. there fore they wouldnt get any viewers therefore be pointless the other way as well the weekend is when most are home and able to view these streamer weekends

Not really, during the week most of us have just enough time and energy to watch something. Saying that nobody would watch during weekdays is just plain false. Also during the weekend I have whole day to do something (like play a game). I'm not sitting on my ■■■ the whole weekend just watching someone else do something - and I think most of us have it this way.

If this was true, everyone would release YT videos on the weekend and we all know that is not the case.

So, nothing would change for you, if the streamer weekend was organized on the following work week.. that's where it would land if it wasn't on the weekend - the patch wouldn't magically be streamer-ready a week earlier. So, enjoy the free weekend, watch some of the content from the streamer event during the week, and play the next weekend.

???

The patch is ready and released whenever the dev and marketing decides to do so. And since it always works like this, it is planned. What you wrote makes no sense, sorry.

Stop whining. They've always done it this way and likely always will. It gives them a chance to have a limited number or people playing it while showing it off to the audience. It also gives them a chance to potentially find more bugs to fix before the first EXP release. If they didn't do streamer weekends they would still release it to everyone in EXP on Monday. Would be stupid to release it wide on a Friday.

Exactly. This patch was aimed to be ready at June 12. They actually worked the previous week on it, so the same content / quality couldn't have been reached before that.
Thus, if you want them to plan a streamer week from now on, it would start on Monday. You can start watching the weekend streamer content on Monday and play the next weekend, Nothing Would Change for you if that was the "Official Schedule (tm)".

I know they've always done this. That was not the question nor my point.

Still makes no sense. They *aimed* it at June 12. That means they can easily aim at (for example) June 10. That's the logic behind my post you missed 🙂

So, your logic is "cut your content, so you can release on MY schedule"? Fair enough. Not that convincing thou. If it was ready at June 10, and the idea was a "streamer week", it'd still start on Monday the 15th.

The streamer weekend is optimized for hype; people have time to watch and the artificial scarcity of the delayed public release makes it more enticing and thus popular. Most of the streamers themselves aren't full-time, so weekends work great for them to push some extra streams. A limited release with a lot of eyeballs offers a chance to knock out a few critical bugs before pushing it to the masses.

It could be done otherwise, but it isn't obvious that this is in any way worse. If you want to choose the schedule, ask BI if they're willing to sell the company... ;)

No, that is not my logic.

People have time to actually do stuff. So they normally do - that's why you have a spike in views on the Sunday evening, because over the weekend normal people actually do stuff and live life 😉 People go to the pub, people play games, people go out. All that stuff that takes time you don't really have during the work week. If I was unemployed or a student, I would have different view on this for sure.

It could be done in the different way and this thread is all about that - basically having someone re-think whether the current status makes really sense without blindly defending a decision of someone in a corporation a decade ago. What made sense then does not necessarily makes sense now and trying to say "that's how it's always been" is just funny to me. If mankind had this kind of thinking, we'd still be hunting mammoths 🤣

I haven't seen you offer anything beyond "I work" as a reason To change something... do you think people didn't work a decade ago? I think unemployment is mostly up since then?

I get what he's saying but its to build "hype" and in my opinion it helps with me but not really alot of people

Most people have the weekend off and people would wanna play. (I work mostly 40+ Hours a week so my time to play is limited) I want to and I have the 15th off cuz my schedule was weird but still would like to play

I know they've always done this. That was not the question nor my point.
And you ignored the part about how releasing an update to the masses on a Friday is a stupid idea. There have been times where there were nasty bugs found during the streamer weekend that gave them time to try and fix them before the full EXP release. Just saying it doesn't make sense or whatever doesn't change you are just whining about nothing.

TFP release on Mondays so the office is staffed to address critical bugs and issue hot fixes if needed. Obviously, "everyone" getting the release on a Friday is a risk that needs mitigation. Just consider the player backlash, if a critical bug appeared and players could not play on the weekend and the hot fix is Tuesday.

This is regardless of streamer weekends, which causes the most angst among players (and many of the "concerns"). Many players work retail, shift-work and weekends, how are thier work/life/gaming needs balanced against other 9 to 5er proposals?

Does it make sense, yes. Does it need to be this way, no. Are there better ways, maybe. Are those ways better for the majority of players, and TFPs, likely not.

People work. That's the reason and for me it is clear enough to think about it - "no reason to change something" is a way of thinking that is circling back to the mamoths I'm afraid.

Yeah, that is exactly what I'm talking about 🙂 And I'm sure two of us are not alone in this.

Yes, you said it is stupid and I ignored it because it makes no sense if you think about it. Why do you think that if you do release during the (let's say) wednesday, you think you can't fix bugs till friday before general release? Makes no sense, your statement "it's stupid" is just... stupid. 🤷

You can easily do pre-release during the week while fixing the bugs just the same. This is even worse, in your example, if you found a big game breaking bug, there is a whole weekend where nobody would be able to fix it and whole weekend would be just stream after stream talking about broken game. That'd be even worse.

That's why this model makes little to no sense in the terms of bugfixing.

This has been discussed to death. There is even no horse left anymore to beat. This is not going to change. I suggest you learn to live with it.
Well, I have nothing better to do since the release has not dropped yet so I have to kill some time 😎

One has to learn to live with death, taxes and probably cancer. Everything else is purely optional and your choice if you accept it or not 😉

Good luck then. But this is brought up every major release and the point is that this release schedule is not up to your or mine or any players agenda. Its up to TFP and they made it perfectly clear this will not change. So compare it to taxes, death or cancer in that way. Unavoidable. Wasting time as a hobby would not be my choice. But you do you.
