Almost...

I just upgraded my overkill base to even more of an overkill base with a new set of 128 dart traps and 192,000 darts. 128x1500. I play 120 hour days and even then I had to go mining for iron 3 times and it took about a game week to make the 192,000 darts. I also added 24 new SMG turrets and made the mistake of making countless boxes of high power 9mm ammo when I find out you can not put high power 9mm in turrets. So then I made countless boxes of regular 9mm ammo.

Did the same as last time. I let the traps work for themselves, without firing a shot. They really made a mess of my base but I had enough defenses to get to 4:05 with only one guy left. If you get bored with the beginning and middle go to about 25:40.

If you update the game, turrets can take high power ammo. :)

As far as the build, it's interesting, but I wouldn't want to let the base do all the work. That defeats the purpose of playing the game for me if all I have to do is sit there. But nothing wrong with doing it if you want to, of course.

It is just a test. I was fighting every HN but it was getting too easy and the other traps I had, such as the blade traps were not even being used. So I just wanted to see if the base would defend itself. I see what you mean though, It would defeat the purpose of fighting the zombies in game, which is the purpose of the game.

Now I do not know what to do. I could easily defend the base and the base can defend itself. I guess I will put the game up for a while.

Plenty of options, a break until 3.0 isn't a bad idea. But could also do something completely opposite, like a nomad playthrough .. just live out of your bags for as long as you can. Or some other challenge format ;)

I hate to say it but I really play the game just to make massive overkill bases. I could try it, but I really loved making this base and I do not think I will really enjoy it near as much playing any different way. I cannot complain though seeing the over 2K ridiculous hours playing the game from 16.4 to today. A lot of people don't realize that even though the game has changed, there are so many people that have spent hundreds of hours playing the game. Now try that on another FPS or even RPG. The game is truly re-playable, when you get in the mood for it anyway. I was working on a base while playing A21 in 2024 and my PC died, I just built this PC about a year ago and made sure I would finish the plans of my base.

I enjoy big builds as well, but I do them for my main base rather than my horde base. I'll try making interesting horde bases, but I don't make them impenetrable even though that's easy enough to do. I enjoy fighting the zombies. But for my main base, I'll build really large and interesting things now and then.

Have you tried to build a horde/main base in one? I have done this from v16.4 on. I always have a bit of a tower in the middle and multiple sets of walls on the outside, complete with towers and catwalks and with all kinds of traps. I usually lay my base by digging out 2 layers of dirt and laying concrete 2 blocks high. This time I had steel under the walls and towers as well. its just so cool to drive home from some run and get to you main/horde base and know it will never fall. Its what I love about the game. I even plan the base out in 3D graphics program first before I even lay the foundation. Its that creative side I absolutely love about the game.

I have done a lot of 3D graphics as well so it is easy for me to plan and build. I have been in to X,Y,Z, 3D graphics since my Amiga 500. I got pretty decent with it with the right software too. Although not really career good but good for hobby projects. I even did some level editing for Day of Defeat Source and Thief: Deadly Shadow and a little with the Dark Mod for the Doom 3 Engine. My thing is I am a perfectionist and If I accidentally upgrade a concrete block to steel. Instead of painting it I take out the auger and remove the steel and put a concrete block in to keep things as perfect as I can. Its actuality kind of ridiculous I know but its an OCD thing I guess.

You should try a horde/main base someday. Its kind of cool to not have to drive to each base over and over again. Your forges, cement mixers and workbenches will make your resources that you can just walk over to and add whatever it is you are building. Also repairs are so much easier when you just have to go to your center tower to get things instead of making a trip somewhere else. I do not understand why people do not do this more often. But to each his own.

Thank you guys for the replies.

I've done it, but I don't like it. As I said, I don't try to make a base that will easily withstand an attack. I try different kinds of bases. Some work, some don't. That's the fun of it. If I put all my workstations and crates into a base that could be broken into, I risk losing everything. And if I want to make it so that can't happen, it limits how I can build a base if I want it to not be indestructible. Things like putting everything on an upper floor and fighting at the bottom so the zombies don't go there. I don't like that kind of limit on how I build. I also build different kinds of horde bases, some of which can have very limited space, such as with a variety of towers interconnected, leaving no real room for regular base stuff. I even started a tree base, with the knowledge that they could knock it down fairly easily by knocking down the trees that hold it. But it was specifically for the fun of it rather than to guarantee I survive. As far as driving back and forth, if you know what you need, it's one trip. With a vehicle, that's easy. Even if it isn't really close, you can still drive there in a couple of minutes. If you grabbed everything you need, that's hardly a difficulty. Besides, it isn't unusual for me to have one crate at the horde base that I put resources into for repairs, along with ammo.

Yeah, I think we have completely different base approaches. I also think about the aesthetic of my base trying to make it look like a modern home would look or something similar. That the cool thing about the game though, you can build whatever you like, even if others think its ridiculous its all about what you want.

Electric fences still need a nerf. I said this years ago, and it is still true. It break the balance and kill most of the tension.
I agree. It is way overpowered. Just getting headshots is way too easy while they are standing still, being zapped.

The same thing could be achieved by having about 5 steel plate walls to go through. You can pick them off at they are trying to get through the walls. They get through one and are stopped at another. I used this type of thing before I started using the fence traps. You just need a catwalk outside of the walls to get a good shot at them.

Well it took me over 24 hours game time to repair. I had to make more concrete and a boatload more 9mm ammo, they also tore up my pressure plates as well,. leaving little, if any time to go Coal and Nitrate mining and no trader run as well. I might go back down to 100% block damage instead of 200% block damage. I could not possibly do bloodmoon every night with so many repairs and little time to craft 9mm ammo and other things they end up destroying. Yeah, 60 boxes of 9mm ammo does not grow on any trees I guess.
