Hear me out: Shields.

Don't know how hard it would be to add, but shields that are usable with 1-handed melee weapons (stun baton, pipe baton, clubs, knives) and handguns would be a neat idea. Or if that's not possible, making them their own weapon class could work, too.

Was thinking as weapons, they could block ranged attacks from bandits and certain zombies, mitigate incoming damage, and have a shove attack, with the potential to knock zombies and bandits down.

Honestly, I don’t know how they’re going to make bandit fights work with the current combat system. Right now, combat is mostly about hitting zombies first to cancel their attack animations, or timing their attacks and stepping back at the right moment. The system feels pretty wooden, but I’ve gotten used to it.

The real problem starts with bandits. Melee enemies will probably have a much larger attack range than zombies, not to mention the ones with firearms who could easily kill you before you even notice them. In that case, the current combat system feels a bit outdated.

I think shields should be in the game, but they shouldn’t be huge or overpowered. More like small emergency protection that breaks quickly and only gives you enough time to reposition or escape.

I just hope the game doesn’t turn into Fortnite, where every time someone starts shooting you instantly have to build walls. Sure, you can take cover, but that’s not always possible.
 
Shields would be a good idea against zombies, but against bandits would be a different story. Bandits would more than likely use AP ammo and those bullets would just go right through any shield you had.

i'm wondering if they're gonna do a bandit raid like bloodmoon, have em randomly attack your base on certain days, or you just attack them at bandit camp POIs.

I saw somewhere that one of the devs said bandits might steal airdrops or ambush you in random places. Maybe even raid your base. Nothing’s confirmed yet, but I feel like they really wanna make them as deep as possible, so it could happen.

i think the whole melee system needs rework combat wise, and yes shields would be nice

After watching countless zombie movies, protagonists and bandits alike mostly us anything that's a ranged weapon. In very little Instances they'll use melee weapons, unless like when they wanna use stealth to get into a place quietly to avoid being detected or draw attention to themselves in the dark, or if they're raiding a place they'll use melee weapons to take out straggler or random zombies, without alerting other zombies around em.

Yes but in game there going to be at least 3 classes

Melee, ranged and leader

Tho yes realistically humans are going to be more likely armed with guns
