QOTW: If you could have any new feature in the game what would it be?

Here is this QOTW: If you could have any new feature in the game what would it be?

For me it would be some sort of husbandry/farming/fishing. Having livestock would be a key element to any survival game. We already have the ability to build amazing bases, so imagine having farm animals and more crops. This has been on my wishlist for 7 Days for Die for so long.

Definitely Fishing as well, with its own perk, fishing rods of different quality levels, and a fish trap that can passively catch fish or random junk when placed in a river and have mods (similar to other "workstations" like dew collector). There could be several types of fish, some of them good to eat and some irradiated (not the best idea to eat those). This would also lead to the introduction of new meals.

Hunting traps for small animals that can be placed in forests with bait added to them (vegetables or seeds), so that after some time you can collect a rabbit or chicken that spawned inside. And if you do not collect it in time, the animal inside will die and you will only get rotten meat. Maybe there could even be a late-game bear trap that would break a player's leg if stepped on, and if you put meat in it, it could eventually "catch" a bear, a wolf, or even a zombie randomly...

Backpacks. Seriously, make it so the player can find different portable containers that can be equipped in a special slot and add extra rows to the inventory. In the early game this could be a small duffel bag, a regular backpack or even a large hiking or military backpack.

Continuing this idea: more items that you could find around the city which are not strictly tied to tiers.
New unique items and weapons. A fire extinguisher? Great - you could use it as a blunt melee weapon, or use it with right-click to put out a burning teammate. A kitchen knife that would be somewhere between a bone knife and a hunting knife in effectiveness. An even better option could be a tactical knife that can be found in military loot. Police baton, maybe even loot-only taser for the intellect skill tree.

Expand Civilian Clothing by adding things that people actually wear: T-shirts, sweaters, jeans, light pants, overalls, fur coats, winter hats, shorts, etc. Each piece of clothing could have different pros and cons in terms of temperature protection — for example, a T-shirt would help against heat but reduce protection from the cold.
Professional Gear and armor pieces: police and military body armor, riot armor. Firefighter clothing, a construction helmet, electrician gloves, etc.

New traps. Disposable tripwires with explosives, gas pipe fire traps, precast heavy concrete block that eventually fall on enemies, maybe even something similar to different traps from Sons of the Forest? There are plenty of options.

They'd have to start over completely from scratch.
I dont know that is entirely the case. Right now there are several wheelhouses that come together to make 7d2d. It would definitely be a tougher 'day 1' for some, but the rest I feel like would just fall in place once the standard UE (for example) translations were shared and open for editing like they have been the current time around in Unity.

If the post IP merger 7 Days team wanted to give this really classic game new legs to run another 10+ years as it has, I would definitely consider moving to another engine parallel to the current Unity 7D2D as they did with the 7 Days Blood Moons. Take time and let something build organically again like the first time through. One important point newcomers to the game might not realize is just how much vanilla and modded 7 Days to Die influenced one another. The recipe for what has made the game what it is absolutely requires those 2 groups of people bouncing the creative beach ball (its a bloody beach ball that breaks down to plastic) back and forth.

Keeping the game wide open to modding on PC, while then still allowing console players to use and cross play with PC players, to me that's the core of what is really necessary for a port to another engine.

I would like to see new building options like mechanical castle gates and for the ability to have special blocks that will fill up with water when it rains so you can make moats or a swimming pool lol. Also having a chicken coup would be cool, eggs can get annoying to hunt for when on a busy server

PARKOUR (like in Dying Light).

They could add grab points to most blocks and allow us to climb buildings.
They could upgrade the current Parkour skill so that you can only do that if you invest in that skill.

To balance that, they should also allow some zombies (ferals?) to be able to climb too maybe.

Undulating fog, lightning bolts, rolling ground covering fog,
which could just be a shift from vertical to horizontal fog
plane and apply the particles used in biomes.xml

A builtin script that allows a player to import
textures, and sound clips, by dropping them in a folder
when named correctly. It would retain a default file but
if checked yes it would apply the replacements at runtime.

It would allow people to change any texture in the game that
they wanted, meaning blocks, terrain, clothing, items, etc. This way
people that want more of personal variations but don't want to
edit xml, can just paint a picture and have personal sounds and music.

More wild life that can attack you and more zombies in the wild or a mall that is Massive and infested with zombies bigger towns need more structures

Switch to a better game engine.
I'd rather they spend that time just making a sequel on a new engine. A new engine wouldn't have the same impact and would likely take at least half the time it would to do a sequel on a new engine. People toss out "switch to a new engine" as if it's a simple and fast process. It isn't. And it isn't something that is done late in development except very rarely. It also doesn't just change much on its own. A 1:1 switch would basically be the same game. Maybe it would help (or hurt) things like performance or graphics, but it would still be basically the same game. A new engine could allow them to do something new that isn't possible or is too hard in the current engine, but if they are going to change the game based on a new engine, they might as well just do it as a sequel and not be limited by existing features and mechanics.

More wildlife in general would be nice, though I think I'd prefer them to be ones that are more cosmetic - squirrels and birds and stuff. We don't need more animals that drop meat when killed as food is already extremely easy, so animals that you can't do anything to but that will liven up the atmosphere in the game would be great.

A castle portcullis would be a nice "door" to add to the game. I would be relatively easy for someone to create one that works like a rollup door but uses a portcullis model. Not sure if anyone ever made one, but it makes me want to look for one. It would go nicely with my old castle base that I exported as a POI.

Rain isn't tracked globally right now, so there isn't a current option to know if it rains unless you're in the chunk where it's raining. They'd need to either just put a timer that was based on what the expected average rain would be and then it would fill even if it isn't raining, which would be weird but would work, or they'd have to redesign weather to allow tracking rain globally to do something with filling holes as it rains. But you can make moats and pools if you want. It takes a lot of work by using buckets, but if you are willing to use the creative menu for it, you can grab some stacks of water blocks and dump them into a moat or pool to fill it. Since it's really there for cosmetics, I don't personally consider it cheating to do that, but I know not everyone is willing to use the creative menu for even something like that.

And the chicken coop is coming.

Good to hear that the chicken coop is coming and I tend to play online so creative mode is not available or at least I don't believe it is. It doesn't have to fill by rain but the bucket way takes far too long and where you get the water from (river etc) ends up all blocky and end up with a messed up river/lake which kinda ruins the landscape

Rain isn't tracked globally right now
Ha! Had a hard time deciding for the OP, but that's it.
Globally tracked weather.
And in the same vein, reminds me of this:
Globally tracked biome zeds (have a lot of basically game-of-life dots, lazily simulate their movement in the world, make them "real" when a player triggers a load area). Makes for realistic "respawns" as new zeds walk in from out of map and spread out like gasses (with maybe some gravity in cities).
