What perk do you always take in a fresh new save?

Generally, Miner 69'er, Cardio, Living Off the Land.

If I'm doing a non-Strength playthrough (which is typical...so many hours spent with clubs when they were the only melee weapon) I'll probably throw some points into that weapon/attribute. But Miner 69'er is always the first thing I max out.

You are the 1st person here that I've seen pick living off the land. My partner always chooses that which is really nice when we have a big group and need all the crops and food.

every play through I work towards Parkour lvl 3 at least. having a 2 block jump completely changes the game and allows you to escape so many sticky situations

It honestly depends if I am minmaxing vehicle and workstation magazines or not. Otherwise, I always allocate points right into Miner 69er. A point into my melee weapon of choice, maybe salvage operations, it depends on my mood. I'm not sure if you can immediately invest into the first rank of Siphoning Strikes - I might have to consider that. More rarely, it'll be a point into Master Chef or Living off the Land. I know for a fact, based on how I play, that if I don't start farming early game, I'll put it off/forget about it until it's no longer relevant to me. But then again, I buy most of my crops from traders, anyway.

I'm too much of a minmaxer to deviate much. Run and Gun, Parkour, Pain Tolerance, they're all good, but I feel like I'm "handicapping" myself for taking them early game (if at all). I've built a prison around myself, but hey, at least it works just fine.

It's mostly for the magazines. I hate starting farming before I can make all the seeds.
Farming magazines are so common, though. I don't put points into Living Off the Land until mid game and I still complete farming within the first 2-3 days (2 hour days). Considering growing time, I *might* miss the first harvest before getting all the magazines, but not the second. Not really a big deal, imo. But nothing wrong with it.

That hasn't been my experience. Without taking it, I might end up going a week or more before I get all 20 seed magazines. But you seem to play quite quickly, whereas I play quite slowly, so perhaps that's where the difference lies.

Yeah, I do scavenger a lot of POIs in the first days, so that makes a difference.

It's interesting how many people put points into perks I never use... and do so with their starting points. Shows how much differently people play the game.

For me, it's usually 2 points in spears and one in parkour.

I never use cardio, armor, lockpicking, iron gut, healing factor, pack mule, advanced engineering, animal tracker. And if I put any points into master chef or pain tolerance, it's not until late game when I don't have anything else worth putting points into. I *might* put a point or two into grease monkey solely to reduce the number of repair kits needed to repair vehicles, but that's also usually not until late game. :)
There does seem to be a lot of variance in people's choices, which is definitely a good thing.

Of your 'never use' list, the only one I'm pretty surprised you can live without is armour. The armour skills themselves aren't great, light is decent and heavy is absolutely horrible but none of them are fantastic, but increasing the drop rate of armoured up magazines always feels pretty essential to me.

That said, I'll normally go attribute to 3 and 2 melee weapon skill with my first four points. Especially if it's a weapon with a good perk book line like spears or sledgehammers.

I'm not going to say it is an absolute. But I never put points in armor either.
The main reason is I am constantly scavenging, in the higher tier biomes, in the
higher tier pois, from the start. With lucky looter I find armor, tools, and weapons,
well above what I can create at the time. The insulators, as well. Most of the extra
stuff, which is nearly all I sell at the trader, then I can buy what I need if it is a part
of the playthrough. It is easier to switch up once I see what I am finding. I only read
the lucky looter more junk one so it still is governed by random gen. Walking Dead.

The reason I invest so spartan like is because, all I am concerned with in the start
is being able to survive. The two aspects of that for me are, eating and not getting
hit. So a bow for distance, Boneknife and spear, quick switch up close. Then constantly
go through the desert for, Yucca and Feathers, until I advance.

I've always considered lucky looter a garbage perk for the most part, but when you guys mention finding gear far better than you can craft i wonder if i am wrong about it. I always put a point into medium armor with my first 4 points and craft tier 3 biker gear around day 9-10 while in the burnt/desert biome on 60 minute days, at which point i am still finding primitive armor or tier 1 armors in loot.

I also neglected lucky looter before, but it definitely helped me out a lot in my current playthrough. another "hidden" bonus is that you find more books of the series, and completing those makes zombies drop loot bags more often. definitely noticeable, especially during horde nights. Late game however i feel like its not as good anymore, because you can only loot up to quality 5 items :(

I would say no perk is actually more valuable than another. Although some things
are more powerful than others. Or allow personal progression faster than others
in a chosen style. Case in point look at variances, just here. Now multiply the variance
probabilities by the entire audience.

That is part of what Joel used to talk about trying to do. An almost every choice,
to make it more desired to a larger gaming audience. "I remember once posting and
saying good luck with trying to balance that. Each genre has it's own rule set, some
conflicting with other genres, and each generation rewrites their interpretation". Guess
it's working. Sure some would like tweaks and adjustments, but I hope Lucky Looter stays
the same. If not I will keep re-modding it back to it's simplicity.

I have always thought of and posted that I think of 7Days as an Overhaul mod, created
specifically to be re-modded. The one thing I learned by playing so many mods and
overhauls, is if you just play without compensating with specific points. I get a direct
view of the Modder's preference. No matter what, there is always going to be a bit
of personal bias that drives the outcome.

Lucky looter feels for me and this is purely personal, as one of the closest elements
to OG RPG play I can use it alone and end up emulating most other preference combinations
if I choose. The others are offshoot elements that include it, but are more contoured
to a different audience. It would have been nice to here from Richard every once in a while
to get his input.

That is the one and only reason I have even considered possibly putting a single point into it. But it hasn't ever really been worth it to me. I hate the excessively slow drop rate on armor magazines if you don't have points in armor, but the perk is just not worth it to me even with an increased drop rate. I'd rather have points in intelligence mastery to increase the odds of double magazine counts when reading them plus increased drop rates. That, combined with nerd armor, can double my effective drop rate and helps with more than just armor.

@Pokketninja This was a good one.
Iron Gut, every time. I play with friends constantly, and trying to feed 4+ players well early games is nearly impossible, so I'll take any advantage I can give myself to make sure we aren't burning through the few resources we have.
I use to be that player, But that got me the name One time when my boss, sup and I would go over
the prior nights game "UO". Playing with others reminds me of those movies where there is that one hapless
person, that would get my character killed trying to keep them alive in a really stupid situation. So bless
you for being that one.

@Roland I blame you for no longer using packmule. 0XP and encumbrance changed it.

Ok, I have a few questions regarding farming. The first is; investing in
farming is it so that a player can make all seeds, or is there another
benefit? I have never invested in farming. An old guilty pleasure was
tilling the ground around my Poi. Don't ask me why but found it was a bit
cathartic. Like the Night Night radio sign off in Dying Light.

The next question is; is it for being able to make farm plots cheaply?
Because the resources to make them are not inconvenient for me to get.
I check anything lootable as I pass, and once I get the one mans junk
book other than the higher tier items, I get more than enough to make
the amount I need, cobble and cement I scrap for stone.

I find and receive seeds, throughout the game, the majority of the time
I either drop them, unless it's like a pumpkin to make jack o lanterns,
or supercorn that has limited use for me.

So from personal points of view what are the other benefits?
If it is for simple food fast, I keep a supply of yucca for a 24hour
emergency healer. Eggs as a supplement, and I will buy jars, if the two
day outings don't include poi raids, and my supply drops, and go to the
wasteland to get them filled.

Getting these things is not convenient, because I have elevated continuous
spawn, quite similar to what they did with 2.6. and my vultures attack on sight.
Is is mostly for coop, early game convenience, speed, completion, catharsis
or META?

Sidenote: My gameplay using: I need to stop saying stealth, so let's call it sneaking
quietly re-euthanizing the undead efficiently, is probably one of the slowest modes of
play.
