Light sources - performance heavy

Would it be possible to get a setting to massively reduce quality of torch fire and green slime (from spitting cops and mutants)? While I can avoid using torches on walls as a light source (light bulbs or head light mods are the alternative), I can't do much against the heavy performance impact of spitting cop and mutant zombies. Some people do have weaker PCs and 7d2d works surprisingly well even on weaker PCs when there is at least enough RAM. But those light sources really do a number on performance.

I wonder if those might be "particles" and thus controlled via the Video > Quality > Particles setting...?

As for other light sources, I know when we make POIs we have to be worried about overlapping light sources because of shadows, so turning off shadows might help.
