Overtravel. When you stop running, you continue to move for a couple seconds.

In the past, when you were running and you stopped moving, you immediately stopped moving on screen. Now, you kinda drift for several feet and it's really irritating. It makes it very difficult to pick up things on the ground while you are running, and it gets you injured or killed when you run up to a mob to hit it, and instead of stopping where you want and swinging, you run into the mob's melee range and get hit. Please fix this.

I guess u are mistaking versions! What u are explaining, was in old versions before A17

I've played since A13 and this is the first time I've ever experienced this, though I have not played for 2+ years before today. So maybe this was implemented a year ago, I don't know. I just know that I hate it.

Soo... is anyone working on fixing this? There's so much I'm really enjoying about this build but this is frustrating and kills the immersion every minute I'm playing the game.

Can u send the video about your encountered problem, here? Also don't forget to drop it in bug report

I'm not going to record and upload a video and create a bug report for something that for all I know may be intended because no devs have commented on my post. There's no reason for me to think that I'm the only one who doesn't stop moving exactly when I stop pressing "W". So if you wanna fix that highly irritating part of the game, fix it. If it's intended and it's gonna stay that way, let me know.

Ok 🤷‍♂️

It's prolly not a bug, just some inertial simulation. It's a little hard to measure of course, but after a quick test I'd say I drift about half a block from full sprint at 100% mobility. I do remember being surprised by it a bit at some point, overshooting when stopping for a bird's nest. By now I'm fully used to it.

I also continue forward way less than a block on full speed. Easy to adapt to when you know it happens. I have no problem with it. Having problems adapting now you know it happens?

Would be easy to adapt if it was as minor and consistent as you describe. For me, it only occurs roughly 33%-50% of the time and it's anywhere from .5 seconds to 5 seconds of overtravel after I release W. Sometimes it's worse when running, sometimes it's worse when walking. Changing the AutoRun options doesn't help either. Half the time when I run at a zombie and hit it, it falls on the ground and I walk on top of it and another 2m past it and get hit from behind as it is getting up behind me and I'm still floating forward because of broken physics.

Can't say I've ever had that happen to me, not even close.. somethings wonky with your game.

Inertia has been in the game forever. Not sure what you are talking about, sounds more like network lag ?
Thanks for the reply. It has been 2+ years since I've played, so maybe the intertia was implemented sometime in the last couple years and I'm just now experiencing it for the first time? I've played since A13 and have always stopped exactly when I wanted to stop so this is new to me. I'm playing a SP game with just me, good gaming laptop running stuff on Ultra with a steady 120+ FPS. My network is nothing to write home about, around 120Mb Up/25Mb down with good latency. If I'm playing single player does the network come into play at all in a way that could cause lag? Perhaps the EAC telemetry? I can record a video if you'd like, to show you that there's no way this much overtravel would be intended, let me know.

Thanks MM and team. Over the years I've voiced plenty of constructive criticism, but you guys are really moving in the right direction and this build looks amazing.

Network problems shouldn't have any impact if you're playing single player. I also have never had any overshooting like you're describing. That sounds like a network problem, but if you're seeing it in single player, it sounds like it might be something else, though I don't know what. Maybe upload your log and video just to see if that helps someone figure out the cause? A video might be hard to show since we don't know when you stop pressing W. You might need to do something like place a line block on the ground and use that to indicate that you're stopping pressing W at that point or something like that. Or just use a line that's already on the road.

I know you said it wasn’t the AutoRun (Sprint Mode) options, but... that really sounds more likely than anything else. Especially if it happens just as much in single player. Or it could be a bad connection/dying battery on one of your input devices - stranger things have happened. I’d go ahead and post a video, because something may jump out to others viewing it that doesn’t come across in your textual description. I’ll move this to the Support forum since it’s becoming clear it’s not working as intended.

Alright so I think I've found the problem and am happy to say that it's not a problem with 7D2D. I downloaded some screencap software and a program that captures kb/mouse input as well. After messing around with it for a bit, I realized that the Input Capture display was showing my keyboard presses were lasting longer than what I was actually pushing. So it wasn't that the game was extending my running, my own keyboard settings were causing it. So I searched a bit and found that if i went to my Keyboard settings and changed the "Repeat Delay" to the far right fastest setting, my movement in the game is now much more precise. So if you have trouble with exaggerated inertia, check your Keyboard settings in Windows and you may find the same fix that I did if you play with the settings.

Here's a link to the video I recorded that let me know what was going on. https://streamable.com/4mn5ap
