Pimps, how do YOU want players to handle Horde Night?

Old Crow

Hunter
So looking through the notes again and watching Cautious Pancake's video on the subject, zombies go into rage mode easier and target higher blocks now. We get it, you probably don't want us building horde bases. But what's really the intention here?

Most of us are going to build bases. That's just how it is. But is the intention here to try and discourage us from doing so? Would love to hear some thoughts.

I do Compound bases like alpha 15. Not very effective but I do it too keep me busy. But i have a back up hold up spot.

What would you rather them do? Stand there and shake their fists at you? Follow a maze perfectly instead of just trying to get to you?
What would YOU have them do? I don't have an answer to be honest. What would be your ideal way to deal with the horde? No sarcasm, genuinely curious.

At low zombie counts, on your feet, in the street like a man. At high zombie counts, on a poi with roof access and a ledge for them to drop down to me so i can bash them while they ragdoll.

Actually make them rain from the sky on my face, takes them too ■■■■ long to get to me at a sprint. And bring back 64 hordes!

I guess they motivate more players to disable it!

For clarification, faatal said that zombies already preferred higher blocks. The change just adjusts the rules for how that works. I haven't actually seen any difference. In any case, there's nothing wrong with adding challenge to the game. It's already a very easy game once you know how things work. Just because there is a demo mode doesn't mean they don't want you making bases. That's a weird thing to think.

Obviously intended for the developers and not me, but here's my thoughts: I kinda dig the new challenge. I am currently through 6 blood moons and I still feel unsure about whether my base will hold up for the next one. Usually at this stage I would have a base design that feels really secure and I would relax at blood moons -- not so anymore. The zombies seem less likely to follow the path I made for them, they seem to jump more, and they attack the base more, undermining the whole construction. I like this new challenge.

For me, they should come from all directions at all times on horde night, and most of them should just pick a straight path and start beating. Maybe like 75% of them. The rest can maybe try to path towards doors/windows/other openings just to add a bit of variety. I've never liked the changes where they will avoid spikes on the ground unless you sink them in, and I don't like that they will path up intricate paths on horde night. I'm fine with sleepers doing that but horde zombies should be more unpredictable. I always liked how it was in A15/16 when I started and they would just come up to your walls and start beating more often than not. They didn't run up to the wall and then decide there was a better way and start running around the entire base to find an optimal way in. To me only maybe special zombies should be smarter than that.

I can't provide a TFP perspective, but my first thought is adapting to changes in the battlefield is a new engineering challenge. There might be a player morale hit in being forced out of a comfort zone, but it doesn't have to mean bases are being discouraged.

Personally, I can both appreciate a well-made base that turns horde night into entirely an WWI experience where a mass of enemies charge directly into machine gun fire, but also a game where I improvise and play in a more "hit and run" style.
