PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

Conceptually, why do I need to read ten cooking magazines to learn how to make corn on the cob, or a chili dog?
Some concepts are closer to reality than others. I literally do not know how to make corn on the cob. My wife does the cooking.

I played for about 4 hours today on stream. Very good and tasty, the bow camera in third person is a little jank though.
Yeah, Tom is still sorting that out. It may need animation changes.

Lol! Corn on the cob is just boiling corn on the cob, unless you want to grill it, but the game boils it. Adding butter after is optional. :D

Chili dogs are actually the one that is more likely that someone would need a recipe. Unless the chili is just chili in a can and dumped onto the hot dog. If you are making the chili, a lot of people would need a recipe. Of course, the game uses chili from a can, so that also might just be heating the chili and hot dog and then putting the chili on the hot dog. Pretty basic.

Still, it's a game. You shouldn't know everything in the game, and needing to learn to make things is good, regardless of reality.

LOL. Now I'm curious, could you bake a potato?

If this were the Sims, you would have to make a few salads to get your skill up else risk burning down the house.

There's a microwave option too. I don't even think you have to husk it.

All joking aside, shifting somebody from a kitchen to a campfire might lead to some unfamiliarity, so maybe some "charred" recipes to go with charred meat would make some sense for everyone to know...?

I do actually, once in a great while, make baked potatoes. Never liked corn on the cob, prefer it in chip form, so have never paid attention to how it was made. Now I know, but an not making it!

I also hate microwave ovens for health reasons. We don't even have one in our kitchen.

Why would a canteen break? Are you smashing it against zombies as a weapon? A metal canteen should last until it eventually rusts away, and that shouldn't happen unless you're careless with it, and it would take a long time even then. A leather one might need to be replaced at some point, but those also last a long time. I don't see any reason to make them break or have durability.

At this point, there's not much reason for a canteen now that jars are back. It would just be superfluous. If they wanted to give us a canteen, then jars should go away again, which wouldn't happen. If there weren't jars and a canteen was the only way to gather water from water sources, it would have value. Otherwise, unless it can hold more water than a stack of water and can hold any kind of drink, there's no reason to use one instead of just a stack of water or other drink. I would definitely prefer a canteen to empty jars, but it's too late for that now.
I mean the break as in run out im just using a in game item as an example

The example i gave was the battry on how it has durability. The durability is the water. Point was i was spit balling and I wanted to just shoot something out. I just imagine the amount of water we have in our inventory is one jar and each sip is one sip out of 10 or something

@faatal (or anyone else at TFP who cares to reply) - there was earlier talk about making glass jars a necessary ingredient for the dew collector. But this is not in the current experimental.

Are there any plans to add that feature later?

(If not - I have a water-related mod that I'm updating for this release, and I can add it to my mod. But I don't want to do that if it's already planned to be added in a future update.)

I have not heard of that.

I think joel said it off handedly in that reddit post he made like 4 months ago. I guess it never left that stage lol.

That sounds about right. It could also have been on Twitter, I don't remember. It was never presented as a feature that was definitely coming, just as something that was possibly being considered.

In any case, it seems like it can be added just with XML edits (though I haven't tried it yet). I imagine I won't be the only person modding in that feature. :)

Anyone else notice if the stamina bar decreases faster than it used to while running or when using the fast option on the bicycle?

Or is this just me??.....

Seems like it drains really fast.

This might just be a level thing. I always feel like I'm weak and wimpy when I start a new game after playing a higher level character for a while. But, no, I have not noticed it being abnormally different than past alphas.

You would be surprised by the large number of people in real life that can not even make toast or a bowl of cereal...
I look at the number of cooking magazines not required for that recipe, just as you "finally came across that recipe"
as in the ingredients required in game are not how you make them in real life! just as substitutions for most like the chili dog...sure
its canned chili...but there are no hotdog buns, packaged breads or hot dogs in game to find.

Oh yeah, early game, stamina is complete crap......I don't know, it just feels off to me.

I have to say I'm not a fan of the new hud either for the hunger & thirst bar. I'm hoping it's just getting used to change but I had no issue where it was before 🤷‍♂️
