PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

Yes, we plan on more quest types. Maybe 3.0.

I see. I was not involved with voice recording and know nothing about the actors they used.
Are these NEW quest types, or derivatives of existing ones (like how Infestations are just Clears but with more zombies)

Of course not.

They're just the old quests with a new coat of paint.
They decided to put effort into this just to annoy and mock players, don't you know?
It's their favorite hobby (aside from game development) and the reason why Joel and Rick started the business.

People have always got wrong why they're called The Fun Pimps.
Not because they make you have fun with their game, but because THEY are having a lot of fun behind your back! :sneaky:

So @faatal your latest estimate for the release of 2.5 EXP is still a few days away? (I figured because of all the testing)
Yes. Initial testing almost always finds bugs, so testing includes fixing things.

Our console programmers found 4 things as they tested console builds, so those are being worked on. We found a bug with smell sounds playing repeatedly on clients, which today I determined was from a missing merge, so I merged it. I also noticed we missed a merge of additional smell sounds that were added.

Tomorrow I am looking at two bugs. Sheltered raycasts leaking through caves in odd cases (will try spherecasts). Temperature was reported as varying between two players right next to each other.

I am making another build for myself now to do more testing tonight.

I don't know what we will end up doing. I know some of my ideas would be new and two ideas I have heard are new.

they have not removed the water filter for helmets...that gives you unlimited water for no cost. Sorry, but, getting water has NEVER been a problem for more than a day...two at most. What they are doing with 2.5 will make it nominally a problem for at least a couple of days...maybe two weeks for those who don't min max. I like the idea...but...i don't understand why they bothered to return jars if they are single use. That would annoy the hell out of me if I was one of the people who want water gathering as part of their immersion. seems kinda like a passive aggressive move.
That depends on a lot of things. I know in my last game, I made it to day 16 and did not have a filter and was not close to having a dew collector. In my current game I am starting day 5 and have neither. Randomness is a big factor.

The jar changes are more fun to me. The percent of people who like it or don't, after actually playing it, has yet to be seen. Time will tell and we will adapt as needed. I do know that returning every jar to me from every source would be boring.

Day 16 without being close to a dew collector? That sounds REALLY unbalanced to me. It's not that many magazines from what was said with the changes. If it's really that bad, it's going to be even worse for those of us who don't want jars. At least it's easy enough to mod the number of required magazines so I could drop it back to a reasonable number without trouble.

it's a moot point now.
I honestly meant no offence. I can see why it was fun to you. I used to horde cans, in the early game, back in the day, just to keep myself in water. The struggle was part of the fun. The idea of some breakage made sense too. Attrition is real. I just found the idea of finding empty jars just to get a single use...didn't sit right with me.

I was probably 60% there, but did not put a point in int to boost it until maybe day 10/11. As I said, randomness plays a big part. Last game water was hard, food was not. This game food is hard, water has not been.

For this game, I made a 4k world and forest only has one town containing maybe 30 POIs. Did 2 quests and now nothing but dig quests, which I thought was a bug. Made a copy of the world and used that to god mode around and look at the town and checked the POI teleporter list. It only has 2 tier 1 POIs in the entire forest, while all the rest are tier 2-4, so I guess I am digging. Randomness.

Hopefully new! Maybe something like "defend the supplies" like a mini horde night, or maybe "deliver these supplies to X location"
I hate delivery quests in games. I'll do them if they add them, but they are just either very boring (drive A to B and done) or they are very tedious (you have to drive from A to B while fighting a bunch of enemies non-stop or while protecting someone who won't stop moving and who walks right into enemies). Not really enjoyable to me. I am looking forward to the destruction quest, though.

Guppy's complicated idea of personal water containers:

Jars should be useful only for canning - 12 stack
Canteens for drinking/carrying/filling water - 1 stack
Pots for boiling - 1 stack
Buckets for mass transfer - 1 stack

...all are reusable, and all can only perform their functions

You're welcome. :)

(And yes I realize the amount of extra work that would be necessary to convert water into units, so that a canteen has less water than a bucket)
