PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

It doesn't make or break it its just something I see and I go. Thanks I hate it.

But in terms of time is maybe a year but some things make me think otherwise like power still being on unless its some super power system that we cant comprehend!. Old 7 days I would say maybe a month
Have you ever heard of the idea of "suspension of disbelief"? :)

"The concept that to become emotionally involved in a narrative, audiences must react as if the characters are real and the events are happening now, even though they know it is ‘only a story’. ‘The willing suspension of disbelief for the moment’ was how the British poet Coleridge phrased it in 1817, with reference to the audiences for literary works. Schramm argues that this is a general expectation for all entertainment (see also entertainment function): we are ‘prepared to go along with a story or a spoof or a good joke, to identify and agonize with a character who never lived…to have a certain empathy with fictional characters, to go along with the conventions of films or broadcasts.’" - Oxford

That's what you'd need to learn to play the game like us! 😁

The only thing I know for sure, which means nothing really, but there's a girly calendar dated 2013 and there's yearly calendar dated 2034. Does it mean it's been going on for 21 years? Who knows as the first one could be an old calendar, but it's everywhere so again... Who knows!
TBF the 2013 calender is more or less a reference to when the game came out but it is weird that there's 2 calender, but if it was 21 years it would make sense why everything is very Makeshift and most care tires are flat. Ima make a post about it so we dont spam here

Plus there's some old tube TVs, so obviously, it started a long time ago.

I forgot about those. Thanks for mentioning that. But there's other problems like the combat armor the Solder armor is a more modern combat helmet style.
One obvious thing they forgot that should be in many houses... Phones! Where are all the Phones (and Cell phones)? I know it's just decorations, but still. A few public phones around some business POIs would be nice too.

What if the zombie apocalypse hit in 2013 and decimated a huge number of the population and caused nukes to be dropped but there were enough people who remained that they built back up a slanted version of the old world with weirdly named businesses. For 20 years things started coming back but then a second apocalypse hit in the form of a civil war in which everyone out of fear of the violence barricaded their homes and remained indoors hiding and stockpiling weapons and food. During the course of this conflict many ended up dying and turning which brought the zombie population back up again. When we start the game it is 2034 just barely after the civil war which resulted in Noah and the Duke unable to defeat each other but each holding their own territories and most of the population decimated and turned into zombies again some wandering outside but a lot still inside buildings that were barricaded for war.

Some things are long decayed since the original viral apocalypse but other things are just newly damaged and destroyed and many of the casualties of the war are newly turned zombies.

I'm throwing this theory in the hat.

The original experiments were intended to be genetic in nature.
Then someone that had a bit, tee many martoonis, loved Marvel comics,
and read Oppenheimer a few too many times. Created a cascading "Time Bomb".
That simultaneously was set off at the same instance as the virus outbreak.
Starting at the waste and working it's way to the forest.

A few public phones around some business POIs would be nice too.
Have you seen a pay phone recently? There are some still out there but very few and most have been gone for a very long time. Now, move forward to at least 2034. Chances are that you won't find any pay phones anywhere unless it's a museum piece. But cell phones? Sure.

Something new I learned is basicly gas decays very quickly without stableizers, even with it it can only last about 2 years or so before it gets thicker and thicker before basicly being unusable for engines and cars. Still flammable but not the best thing to use in engines.

Now whenever I watch the walking dead or me getting fuel in 7dtd I'll always think that. Then again we don't know when/how long the apocalypse has been going on and I wanna do a post on it too see people's thoughs

What I meant was that we make the vehicles like the minibike and motorcycle. We add an engine and they need gas to run. We make a mixer, add an engine and it doesn't need any fuel to run.

I'm throwing this theory in the hat.
I would like to add to that.

These are some of my "Suspension of Disbelief" explanations

How bout, Let's call the creator of this mess, Mumbly.
One night he got drunk, while working in Dexter's Lab,
got his wires crossed, when he thought he was making a
projector. One thing led to another, as one drink led to
another, and sim sala bim, or abracadabra. He had a
Frakenstein mess for the ages, that he didn't even recognize.

His final words recorded for posterity..."What's this button for?".

OR

Or it could be magic, performed by an amateur magician, that had
partaken in some peyote and shrooms, and mis-spoke the spell. The
intended incantation was "Klaatu barada nikto" but the unfortunate
slurring produced. "Klaatu Miata Necktie" an the rest is history.
So to speak.

OR

The Ip was secretly sold to Marvel, and Stan Lee added it to the
Multiverse.

Yeah, I was talking with my brother and we were also saying that pay phones are pretty rare nowadays.
And like Adam was saying, maybe some electronics we find in garbage came from cell phones; but still, people got rid of all phones, but still kept old tube TVs? Even some military installations have the old TVs... Weird!
I'll go one better... No Consoles? People stop playing games at some point and made all the consoles disappeared? At least there's some PCs and Laptops still around. I could survive with no Consoles... But no PCs? 😁 Just kidding!

I've always considered this game to be in an alternate reality with its mix of old and new tech, i.e. the abundance of CRTs and flatscreens, etc.
It's kinda like that movie It Follows. They had rotary phones and black and white CRTs but modern handheld games and new car models.

Though that wouldn't help explain the abundance of 2013 and 2035 calendars all over the place. Even if there was a return to normalcy for awhile, why would people keep 2013 calendars around? Also, why name things with "zombie" like "Zombies ZU" for the old football player's jersey, as well as other similar things that I can't think of off the top of my head?

I know it's supposed to be tongue in cheek but if you wanted to go the nerdy immersion route (which I would) you would drop all the zombie themed names and ditch one of the calendars.

I'm sure I'd burn my legs' hair the first time I try to ride that monster... 🤕
I was going to say something like that, but thought....Nope.🤷‍♂️

The really real closest why, I came up with for myself, after "years" of trying to figure it out is.

A 4■■■■Zandgiggles or Why not idea. Created with none to moderate expectations. Initialized
off the cuff, but was presented at the right time, and right place, to the right kinda people, and
that bunch of people saw potential in the verbal picture, and took it very seriously. The idea took
off like a monkey from a box, and has continued to grow like a snowball going down hill, and has grown
in popularity faster than it can be appended. There was no official storyboard, or even a scripted
story per se. Built and constructed remotely, by multiple satellite participants.....AND THEN

During the interim, multiple separate strands and thoughts and ideas, began to emerge and were constantly
encouraged, by participants to use creative license with little oversight. Which resulted in emerging
inconsistencies that prompted followup dialog and conversations and emotions and stuff. But do not completely
detract from the underlying strength of the original thought or idea. Well...so far.

And those that favored the game idea, wanted and hungrily almost demanded more, and wanted a cohesive
scripted story to tie it all together, as a cherry on top. Which looped back into the unregulated creative licensing.

But that's boring.

Personally I like my thought about the peyote induced incantation better.

As far as calendars go, they could certainly change the date of that one, but since it's an homage to when the game started, it's fine with me. You can also think of it as being some person on there who people were really interested in. For example, people had Cindy Crawford stuff up all the time for a lot of years. Perhaps not 12 years (for most), but it isn't unusual to see some stuff up for a long time if people were interested in whoever was shown. And I've certainly been places where people had an old calendar up from over a decade earlier, though each time they were different calendars and pictures, but it isn't too much of a leap to think that there was some really famous person who a lot of people wanted to have on their wall and that they kept it there for a long time. Maybe a small chance of it being realistic, but it isn't too much of a stretch, imo. If they changed the year to something like 2020, it would be much more believable, but like I said, the date reflects the beginning of the game, so I don't think that is really necessary.

It's the same thing with the license plates. Unless you're in the center of a really big state (Alaska or Texas, mainly) or Hawaii simply because you need to transport vehicles there, you're rarely going to see only one state's license plates on every vehicle you pass, especially on the highways between towns. And even in the big states, you'll see at least some variety (less with Alaska just because it's separate from the rest of the US). But they are using Texas plates because of where TFP is located even though the game is in Arizona. It isn't realistic, but it's kind of an Easter Egg.

And for building names, these are just fun things for the game. The game isn't intended to be a sim or very realistic. It's a tongue in cheek laugh at horror and apocalypse, and that is a good thing.

I'm very disappointed by the news that jars will be deleted after use. So why bring them back at all? Ultimately, this decision combines the worst aspects of the old and new systems. This is my personal opinion.
I think the main reason people were upset by the removal of jars was that you can't get water from water sources anymore.
That will change after jars are back. To counter balance how easy it'll be to get murky water they had to compensate by destroying jars after use.
