Gameplay / fun reason why Level 300 does not allow all skill points

Why do you think the ability to get new skill points ends at level 300? At the end game, it would be nice to max the skill tree chart.

There is no "why"; it's a random round number. It was set at 300 to cover roughly every skill, then they added more skills. At level ~30, respec potions are essentially free, just stockpile on those if you really really need to stunlock your enemies with your baton to then bleed them dry while hammering them at point blank with clubs and sledges and also poking the other guy behind the bars with your spear ...

That actually sounds funnier* than I thought ... :P

* There's at least two ways to read this, I'll let you decide.

Yeah, it was just a number they set. It used to allow getting all perks until they added some more in 2.0. But there's really no reason to get every perk. You won't use every perk anyhow. For example, it's very unlikely you'll use every weapon type in a single game, so putting points into weapon types you don't use is pointless.

Before v2.0, you could earn level 300, and find yourself with 16 unspent skill points. Not just unspent, but unspendable, because you literally had no place to put them. I understand what your saying, but I like the way it is now over that way.

Basicly an incompetence of TFP

Or more likely, it is seen as irrelevant to change as the only players that even encounter this problem and see it as an issue are the ones who have the irrational compulsion to max every skill even though they don't even use a lot of them.

Like who is carrying every melee and ranged weapon types at any times? Who wears heavy, medium and light armor at the same time?

Maybe it gets changed when they're sure the skill tree is in its final iteration, but I don't see the point adjusting it to have the exact amount of points and change it every time you change the tree.

Not Really.

I would suggest it's an outgrowth or consequence of their own modding style. It's not incompetence, its misdirected developer agency, scope creep, and not strictly adhering to a project management system.

TFPs are not the first to suffer from poor project management habits, nor will they be the last.

I patiently hope they get 7d2d across the finish line...

I suspect it is arbitrary. It's just a configuration setting in the XML and is easily changed, assuming you're not on a console. The skill points are configurable too in the same place, IIRC.

I think that's a bit harsh. Very few people play up to that level. It just feels like a value that is easily overlooked from version to version.

Firstly, as others might have said, very few people will actually reach lv300. Secondly, i think its a good thing to not be able to fill up all perk trees completely, it adds to the replayability factor!

This is how I look at it. It's why I purposely limit attributes in my mod. But I can also say a loooot of people can't stand knowing they can't max everything out, even if they likely wouldn't play long enough to do so. Haha.
