Turrets AP ammo

Does anyone have a theory why turrets (smg, shotgun, etc) can't be loaded with AP ammo?

In game code - turrets support only 1 type of ammo! And devs set it on regular one! But if you tweak game XML files u can assign whatever ammo u want

Probably just to not have them be even more powerful. In the past, it wasn't a big deal because you found a ton of regular ammo and you could use that in the turrets without crafting any. Now, since you can't find regular ammo after the very early game, it is a hassle if you want to use turrets. You have no choice except to spend a lot of time crafting regular ammo for the turrets.
