PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

@faatal

I just revisited your screen capture, and did a slight
colorburn and contrast to get a clearer picture for myself.
My monitor did not do the original picture justice.
Wow that looks seriously intimidating. In a good way.

I have an odd question, basically a yes or no, from your
knowledge. I have not tried it yet.

Can emmiters be set to be turned on and off like the light
switch in game.
Here is a link to what I see now.
What kind of emitters? Like particles? and for what?

Greetings, dear sir. Please tell me, will there ever be any improvements for server holders? Improvements to server logging, expanding the administrator's capabilities etc. In this regard, the situation is quite poor, and catching cheaters is a laborious task with the new cheats.
I don't know.

I posted that 1 day after it was decided. Is that not timely for you???
anything on Social Media?

the majority of people do not come on the forums...especially the people who have any criticisms...they know they are not welcome.

I know you think it's no big deal that 2.0 won't be finished this year...some other people just might.

All I am asking for is better communication. The entire road map timeline is going to be used up by 2.0 and will bleed into next year...which pushes 3.0 even farther behind.

Are there any other things being planned, internally, to be added BEFORE 3.0? be nice to know.
as promised I will not ask when 3.0 is coming, until Q4 2026, hopefully, 3.0 will be in or you guys will have started communicating these things by then.

but, this 2.0 and "town hall" stuff...has been talked about...it is not a surprise and "you" should be able to communicate it out better...like what you did with the percentages...long overdue but well done.

anyone is free to come and read to keep informed. no one is forced to leave a message. no one has to know they were even there.

personally, I'd enjoy reading this thread a lot more if it was more dev diary and less the same 3 people complaining about the same 3 things to no end.

100% agreed
I'd love it if the devs actually kept us informed on these "dev" blogs. not just arguments about poor communication, pointless speculation, and things that should be in the PIMP DREAMS Forum.

Now you’re pushing for 5 years?
Yes, 3 years ago i said bandits where at least 5 years away back when even more pve players kept begging tfp to add them,
That leaves 2 more years...
and also, if they do come in next 2 years i would hope major bugs (which some of us been waiting for 10+ years) are finally fixed before they add bandits.
Overall, i feel tfp focusing more on bugs over the last couple months rather than bandits is a wonderfull and right thing for them to have been doing.

"I hope that..." "I don't know"
You should clear things up for people and talk more about different things amongst yourselves 😔🥲😭

I don't know.
Speak it with your team? Necessary point.

@faatal
Yes, the particle emitters, specifically for the new biome storm particles.

I know that they are activated by/at the borders, and by a timer,
observed just from crossing the borders during normal game play. Seeing the
volume and shape, in your screen capture made me think of proximity, and when
simplified in my head it meant on and off with a trigger.

In the past, I have given terrain particle storms a property when i needed to adjust their
intensity and variation per distance"chunkmargin" adjustments, that made them temporarily
visible. It helped me contour them for my custom maps and terrain shapes, because I paint
my biomes.xml manually. It allows me to make the the particle storm emitters, to mingle
with the fog and for me it simulates artificial volume just using the tools you gave me.

That is the same way I made a block I call the eternal flame, just for theme
when I do build. I first did it when adjusting lighting in AndyJoki's pyramid poi.

That was the only way for me to measure and see the real time distance
when I mixed and matched them to personal preference. Once I found the right
combination, I made the emitter positions invisible again, and played the game.

I don't post on social media, do not want to and do not have access to it even if I did. Since the people who do post on social media did not say anything about 2.5, why would they post about it being released later? You can see the current focus of what is being posted.

The vast majority of people DO NOT READ anything on social media about their games. As the average player has dozens or hundreds of games, if they tried to keep up with posts about all their games, they would never actually play them. I spend about 0% of the time reading about my favorite games other than the news headline that pops up in Steam. What I care about is what is released for my games NOW, that I can play NOW, not some pipe dream about the future.

Yes, you asked about communication, but I don't think you will get anything different in the short term. We have a LOT of things going on at the company and like most companies, we don't spam out our internal day to day operating processes as those are private for many reasons. Just like every employee does not know every thought or plan going on at their company.

Forget the specifics of the roadmap. Once the first date was missed, everything would obviously shift and as time goes by, we will and do change our mind about what is best to release and when and we can because we did not marry the roadmap. That is why we put the disclaimer on it, because we know we may change our minds for whatever reason. Smells was not on the roadmap, but I have wanted it to return for years and I convinced people we could do it in a reasonable amount of work and we are. Others thought the same with apiary or a chicken coop or other secret features that are being worked on or planned.

Disclaimer: Everything I or other employees post on here is our personal opinion as the company can and may do something different from what we have said.

There is no xml control of distant storms. It is brand new code using a grid system. There are 3 of these grids at different cell sizes and parameters covering the world. They are internal to the weather manager and are designed to do that one thing. I don't wish to spend any more of my time on that system.

Those who are hardcore about updates know where to find them. I'm excited for the changes whenever they come 👍

Most visitors never post. An AI answer from Brave:

"The percentage of people who read versus post on gaming forums is highly skewed toward readers. On platforms like Reddit, which function similarly to forums, it is estimated that about 80% of users are lurkers who read content without contributing, while only around 20% actively vote or comment. This follows the well-known 80/20 rule, where a small fraction of users generate the majority of content. In the context of gaming forums, the proportion of users who interact by posting is similarly low; for instance, the percentage of people who leave reviews on platforms like Steam is estimated to be around 1 in 10 users, indicating that the vast majority of users do not contribute reviews or discussions. This pattern suggests that while many people engage with gaming content by reading news, reviews, or threads, only a small minority participate actively by posting or commenting."

Regarding a particle bug, snow particles sometimes appear, especially during snowstorms. There are clusters of condensed snow particles in specific areas, and it looks very strange.

@Roland the timeline they set for the roadmap were not achievable....it was a device to get as many console gamers to buy it or buy back in...it was not achievable. my "evidence"? it was not achieved...no part of this timeline will be done in the 6 months/per they gave themselves.

You can't definitively prove that. You are talking motive and motive can't be proven by the outcome. Did they hit their goals? No. The evidence for that is that they were not achieved. Agreed. Did they lie about it up front with the intent to catfish gamers? There's no proof for that. Just because they missed their goals does not prove motive. You are looking at how things played out and assigning motives based on your own suspicions. When I look at the situation having seen the conversations and plans that they spoke of at the time, I don't assign the same motives that you do.

As for whether the dates could have ever been achieved...of course they could have. They could have hit those dates with the listed content. Of course, then there might be complaints about the quality of the content. I've explained to you that 2.0 was complete on all bullet points of the roadmap and yet you aren't satisfied that 2.0 is done siting that any further work they do on 2.0 features means that the full 2.0 release hasn't happened yet. So even if they had hit those dates with the stated features, if you and others were not happy with them and wanted changes then you would still be complaining that they didn't make the dates.

We are in Q4 2025. 2.0 content is not finished. The entire length of the road map will be used and there will still be more 2.0 content left to be finished in Q1 2026. That looks pretty open ended. I keep getting told it takes as long as it takes....that sounds pretty open ended. Clearly this is not a Military operation...they would not be allergic to Communication or Accountability.

2.0 content was finished back in July. Look at the content list for 2.0 and everything on that list was delivered. The only reason we are still adjusting the completed content for 2.0 is because TFP listened to community feedback and chose to spend more time on it. They announced that this would delay 3.0 but that they could see that there was a need to consider the desires of the community.

"It takes as long as it takes" is not meant to be taken literally as never ending and going on forever. It is meant to convey a philosophy of focusing on content rather than on dates. They have goals and timetables and push to meet those targets but they won't let their craft suffer because of it and will readjust their time goals to meed the demands of the content they are creating.

You cleverly avoided the part where TFP put out a Well defined tight schedule, "All dates subject to change" IS NOT A BLANKET DEFENCE. it's meant to cover the situations that can come up, not as an excuse to continue delivering Alphas/Road Markers every Year to Year and a Half as per the usual operating procedure. you know...the pattern PC are used to accepting...and that was fine back then, TFP had not published a schedule to sell the game on.

You thought I was being clever? Thanks. Once again, you are assigning motives based upon your own imagination. Perhaps you're projecting what YOU would do if it were you. I don't know. I think it is worth self-analyzing yourself as to why your desire is to assign the worst motives possible when there really is no evidence and many equally plausible non-nefarious reasons exist as to why the goals were not met. You can't know the thoughts and intents of others but you can know your own and it is immeasurably more useful to understand your own inner workings than to guess at those of others.

1% care about the dates?? Trot your numbers out to prove that. I think it is fair to say PC gamers did not care as much...that's about it.

Admittedly I can't prove that. All I can say is that by far the overwhelming response to the game's release on console is that people are playing it. Very few seems to waiting until some unspecified moment in the future to start playing it. Also, most chatter online seems to be from PC players and not very much from console players. So 1% might be too strong but it definitely is a small fraction of the overall console playerbase that actively participate in following the development of the game. Most seem to be happy to play the current version they have.

I think it's fair to say that PC players do care about development happenings a lot but console players not so much.

You have made enough mud around what and who controls if it goes on sale that it is not worth arguing the finer details...congrats.
I still think it's a bs argument...gone on sale is gone on sale, but, ■■■■ it.

How was explaining that the stores mostly control when it goes on sale making mud? How was pointing out that the sale price of the game hasn't budged for over a year and a half making mud? Those were clarifying points that were devastating to your argument. When did the game go on sale for the first time anyway? It probably did for the Fall and/or Winter sale on Steam but that wouldn't have affected consoles. When did the Playstation Store put it on sale? When did the Microsoft Store put it on sale? Playstation Store has it for $44.99 right now. Microsoft Store has it for $44.49 right now. Steam has it is on sale right now for another 20 hours on a special promotion for $26.99 but its normal price is still $44.99. So what one store does doesn't apply to the others.

I have seen it, but do not consider it a priority.

@faatal Is some kind of electrical shock like the stun baton possible as a hazard for poi's? (broken wires to stun and slow down the player) Also how about a Zombie Deer? There's zombie dogs/bears/birds.
It is possible, but our plate is full right now.

I remember no deer are coming unfortunately but zombie wolves and pigs would be cool pigs especially cuz we have so many pois with pigs and like how haven't the zombies eatten them.. unless the zombies get eaten and maybe they are the true threat!!! And grace is a god among pigs to join the superior zombie race?!?

Idk just a thought but zombie deer are cool too
