Windows Bought the wrong version of the game for a friend, is it fixable?

Went to the Microsoft store and bought my friend a gift, the gift is apparently only playable on PC when I thought it would work on Xbox. Microsoft is incredibly hard to reach out to so I thought I might have better luck here.

This is just like buying something from a store. If you want a refund or exchange, you have to go back to where you purchased it. You don't go to the manufacturer for a refund or exchange.

Yep, this is almost entirely the fault of MS for the way they set up the PC store. It is also something you are only going to get resolution with them on.
