Blue Zombies

Blue Zs HIT HARD!.

I play on Survivalist and rarely ever die. In my current playthrough on v2.1(b10), I have died twice, both times from Blue Zs. The last one, I was level 97, with Pain Tolerance at level 4, Healing Factor at level 4, Pack Mule maxed out, and wearing the level 6 Preacher outfit, which is supposed to give you 15% damage resist. All of that, and it only took 3 hits from a Blue Z to kill me.

Granted, I was being stubborn and stayed with the sledgehammer and also got stuck in a corner as I was backing up, but 3 hits??? When I was at full health?

Lesson learned; guns out for the Blue Zs.

I take those out in 2-3 headshots with my spear at level 70-something without any trouble. Which blue zombie was it? I don't even have any points in pain tolerance, healing factor, or pack mule. And my armor is a mish mash of Q4-5 stuff I've found.

The Preacher Outfit is light armor. It provides mobility but not much protection. It's not ideal for the sledgehammer, which is a slow weapon. I recommend the steel armor. It slows you down, but it turns you into a walking tank and significantly reduces the risk of critical injuries.

I recently watched a video from JaWoodle. He completed a T6 quest at the Hybrid Mining POI. His steel armor worked overtime to protect him from all the zombie hits.

You broke one of the main rules of the game: never get yourself cornered. They took advantage of your predicament and whooped that butt xD
There are always exceptions to the rules. With an Intellect build, being cornered is exactly what you want. You want all your opponents to come at you head-on so you can send them flying with your stun baton. As long as you only use normal attacks, you won't have any stamina problems.

Yeah the days of melee only T6´s are over. Still can do mostly melee but there is a some situations where i have to pull out a gun.

Optionally, yes, melee only T6's are over if you want them to be. When I break out the machine gun it's because I'm panicking, and that means I'm having fun.

...but I can still 100% melee a T6 if I want. Stun baton + Int mastery. I can just stand there accomplishing nothing for *days*. It's super effective and not a lot of fun (for me). I think that in part it's unfun for me because of how I built my current playthrough: I'm only into INT for mastery and the baton, so once I'm using the baton to push back an overwhelming horde I'm kind of stuck in that mode and it can take a very long time to whittle them all down (with low baton damage I'm mostly relying on Phys insta-kills). If it was a more proper INT build I'd be using the baton to push them back into the firing arc of a pair of junk turrets.

Once I'm at the point where I'm running a T6 I can power attack with a stun baton for days and never worry about stamina. I'm getting more than enough back from the occasional kill baton kill.

Yep, I sure did. It seems to happen a lot but I can usually get out of it. In this case, it happened so fast I couldn't, and didn't even have time to switch to a gun. All of those perks and buffs didn't help a bit. I wonder if I didn't have those, would the Blue Z be able to kill you with one shot?

Charged zombies do a default of 60 damage per hit, so no, they shouldn't kill you in one hit no matter what. And infernals do 45 as they are more biased towards block damage. Charged do more player damage, though infernals also have more health, so they are kind of even threats to players.

I'd say a lot of builds prefer everything coming at you. I prefer that with my spear, especially once I get the penetration. I can do a headshot power attack that sends multiple zombies flying in one hit - usually even blue and orange zombies. That makes getting them to line up a very useful strategy.

However, I think they point was that you still should leave yourself an exit in case things go badly. I might try to get them all to come at my from the front, but I also prefer to have a path behind me or above me that lets me leave if I need to.

Ah no wonder, wights are nasty at any level. They do often require a shotgun.
Nope, feral and rad wights only tickle you when they hit you (50 on insane), its the biker and lumberjack that hit like trucks (100).

As for the charged zombies, they all hit for 150 (on insane) except for the utility and businessman, they hit for 300.

Was your armour above 50% durability? Did you have points in light armour to boost your armour rating by 4 points per level?
Did you have points in Hard Target? Did you use Fort Bites before the encounter?

Cool, I never knew that. Now I know which ones to watch out for.

Was your armour above 50% durability? - YES
Did you have points in light armour to boost your armour rating by 4 points per level? - NO

I've never worried about these things before blue and orange Zs. Now that I know how hard they hit, I will take extra precautions, and make sure I don't get backed up into a corner, which is really the reason they got me.

Go heavy armor if you want to go all in on melee...but even that isn't enough at times. I had a few times where I would get absolutely tagged by a blue zed and go from full 200 HP down to 40. Not entirely sure why exactly.

Consumables are freakin' HUGE for melee. Fort Bites in particular. Much as 2.0 has been lamented, I had some of the most fun with horde nights during it as I was able to just melee away at the hordes. Running every consumable makes you basically unkillable, but I view it as no different than having set up a kill corridor base and a mountain of ammo. It's simply a different way of spending resources

Another rule in 7D2D: never get complacent. If Project Zomboid teaches you anything, the moment you get overconfident or lazy, you die. xD I remember recently, I saw a massive wandering horde bashing on a bullet proof glass door to get to me while I was digging into the main loot. I was like, "Ahh, it'll be fine, I'll deal with them in a moment." I started bashing into the T3 loot chest... 20 seconds later, what followed was a lot of screaming, frantic reloading, and the screen going black. xD
